"Well, the Ziegfrieds are only the most powerful family of wizards. If the Triffid is really after us mages, the Ziegfried Manor would be our best bet."

"Yes, I was thinking the same!"

"That reminds me, I forgot to thank you people for saving my wife. Consider yourselves friends with the Bonaparte from now on."

"Thank you, kind sir! I wish you and your wife a lovely day, if it's still possible with the events that took place."

Captain Cousland suddenly stopped the party before they could depart.

heroicanpc-patriciacousland.jpg

"Hold on! You're not going anywhere - not without me!"

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg

"You show that beast the hell's bells, Captain! I will take my wife to rest. She seems to be utterly drained by the assault."

heroicanpc-xsenna.jpg

"Mishawani ka'kuro essa..."

Bidding farewell to the Bonaparte, the party hurried to check if they could find the Triffid from the house of the Ziegfried family of wizards. They met three family members at the frontyard of the manor. It was getting darker by the minute, and the wizards illuminated their surroundings with their wands.

heroicaquest142-ziegfriedmanor.jpg

heroicanpc-goldraumziegfried.jpg

"You there! Did you see where it went?" one of the wizards shouted at the entourage.

heroicanpc-altairziegfried.jpg

"Goldraum, no need to be so rude! Don't you recognize Captain Cousland?"

heroicanpc-goldraumziegfried.jpg

"My bad, brother. Sorry, didn't see you there, Captain. We just had a Triffid sniffing around the premises, but the manor's magical defenses drove it away."

heroicanpc-chesterineziegfried.jpg

"It was... lonely, I reckon... And lost... Driven by insatiable hunger... Or maybe leprechauns..."

heroicanpc-patriciacousland.jpg

"Good evening to you, Goldraum and Altair. And err... Chesterine. As so it happens, we are also after the Triffid. It has been attacking mages all over the city today. These people can tell you more about the attacks."

The wizards turned their attention to the party, eager to hear their report.

Ezeran nods towards the wizards. Even the symbiont seems to be nodding courteously, although it looks strange without it having a neck. "Good evening esteemed master of wizardry! As Captain Cousland here have already told you we do indeed have dealt with this particular Triffid before! It has attacked three mages: first Waldorf over there, an arbomancer, then a necromancer, Malastor at the Kingless Crown restautant and after that it attacked a Weather Mage at the barracks. It seems to have chosen mages with different kinds of powers and different levels of experience. We are, however greatful for any advice or assistance in ending this threat as soon as possible. You are probably already aware of the fact that it swallows each victim and absorbs his or hers powers making it more and more powerful it seems."

The wizards listened to the heroes' explanation intently.

heroicanpc-altairziegfried.jpg

"So it has not been able to amass power too much, yet. That is good. Triffids are leeches, like the ancient Mindflayers, absorbing magical powers from other species. Luckily the Triffids can only utilize the absorbed powers when they are digesting a victim, using them as a channel." Altair Ziegfried turned to Waldorf, who was suddenly flaming red. "So you are one of the victims, then? Can you confirm this information?"

heroicaquest124-waldorf.jpg

"Buh... But y-yes, of course, Sir Ziegfried! Umm, I mean, it's a great honor and a priviledge to meet you all! I totally agree with anything the Ziegfrieds say! ...Oh wow..."

The young mage seemed to be flabbergasted at the presence of the famous wizards.

heroicanpc-goldraumziegfried.jpg

"We must not tarry any longer, but cast a locator spell. Tell me, how did you manage to follow the plant beast? It moves fast as a lightning, after all."

heroicaquest142-annabelle.jpg

"Ahem... It was my pet poodle, Frau-frau here, that got a whiff of the monster and helped us track it down."

heroicanpc-chesterineziegfried.jpg

"Fluffy cloud with teeth..."

heroicaquest124-fraufrau.jpg

"Yip yip yip!"

heroicanpc-altairziegfried.jpg

"Splendid! Then we can extract the scent from the dog's nose and use it as a base for our spell. If you only allow that, Miss Frau-frau."

heroicaquest124-fraufrau.jpg

"*whimper*"

The wizards quickly got to work, and configured a spell that would reveal the Triffid's current whereabouts.

heroicanpc-goldraumziegfried.jpg

"The locator spell worked! It seems the monster is now heading south, towards the Triad Park. It is probably seeking shelter among the trees and plants there."

heroicanpc-patriciacousland.jpg

"If we think this through carefully, we can corner it to the park and catch it there without any further victims. I will send my men to fetch some traps and nets, but first we need a plan."

The Ziegfrieds conjured a map of the park, so the heroes could device a plan how to trap the Triffid.

heroicaquest34-triadpark.jpg

heroicaquest66-maitred.jpg

"Phoebe and I will help in any way we can."

heroicaquest124-waldorf.jpg

"You can count on Annabelle and I, as well!"

heroicaquest142-annabelle.jpg

"And Frau-frau!"

heroicaquest142-phoebe.jpg

"Let's do this together, woohoo!"

heroicanpc-patriciacousland.jpg

"We must split up to the three sides of the park as evenly as possible to prevent the Triffid from escaping. I suggest the Heroicans then go in to capture the beast once and for all, since they have the most experience of fighting it. Are we agreed?"

Posted (edited)

"Triad park, now there is a place I've heard some things about. Quiet a rough place if its reputation holds true. I heard a story about other heroes who went there to find out about some nobleman being a vampire or such. Well... I guess we should split up into three groups and try to surround it, we should try to drive it in front of us and meet up at the fountain. Now how should we split up, suggestions anyone?" Ezeran looks around at the others. Ezeran then turns to the Ziegfrieds "Are you coming as well?"

"I am not a good tactician, so..." He stops and adds: "I can go with Phoebe and master Golem, and one of the Ziegfrieds, if that's alright?"

QM Note: I will be unavailable for the next couple of days, sorry about that! We are reaching the climax of this quest, nevertheless.

Ezeran then turns to the Ziegfrieds "Are you coming as well?"

heroicanpc-altairziegfried.jpg

"Yes, the three of us can come with you to guard the perimeter of the park, but we ought to keep away from the inner park itself, or we might get devoured ourselves."

"Yes, the three of us can come with you to guard the perimeter of the park, but we ought to keep away from the inner park itself, or we might get devoured ourselves."

"That is probably wise! We wouldn't want to fight your powers..."

OoC: No problem Sandy, let the tension build! :classic:

"Well, how about this: Me, Petaldan and Waldorf takes one side. Torald, master golem and Phoebe the second side and Captain Cousland, Anna-Belle, Dr Windus and Frau Frau takes the third side. Remember, you don't want to encounter it just drive it towards the fountain and then we'll fight it together!" Ezeran looks a second time at the map. "If the Ziegfrieds can cover the middle of the sides we could start at three different corners and work our way against the fountain. My group can start at the corner of Porpoise esplanade and Aroma street. Toralds group can start at the corner of Aroma street and Selkie street and Windus group at the corner of Selkie street and Porpoise esplanade. How does that sound to all of you?"

"Sounds like a plan and a half to me! Drive that damned Triffid to the center of the park. Got it! Come on, let's go and finish it!"

Posted (edited)

"Does anyone have horns which we can use to alert the others should we see the Triffid near our location?

"Are any of you going to enter the park with us to destroy the creature?"

I ask, uncertain who was planning to guard the perimeter of the park and who was planning to actually enter with us.

"Sounds like an excellent plan, Master Yavarr. We shall put it into fruition immediately. Everybody, to your places!"

QM Note: I haven't had the time to build the scene of the final battle yet, so please have a little more patience. We'll surely get this quest done over the holidays, if you only have time to play.

"I'm ready Captain, lets go!" The symbiont bares its teeth.

OoC: No problem for me, I'm having a blast!

QM Note: My deepest apologies for the long pause caused by the holidays and my hectic social life. I simply had zero time to build the sets for the finale of this quest, but now they're done. It should be smooth sailing from here on to the finish line.

Split into three, the heroes and their companions advanced into the Triad Park in search of the Triffid. Night fell upon them, and only the few magic lanterns hung onto the trees illuminated their path. However, they did not see anything before they all arrived to the Fountain of the Three Gods in the middle of the park.

heroicaquest142-triadpark1.jpg

Instead of the Triffid, they encountered a gang of phlegmen there.

heroicaquest142-triadpark2.jpg

heroicaquest142-tricklyslime.jpg

"Well, well, what do I spy with my oogly eyes? Good old Captain Cousland walking alone at night in a shady park with a bunch of civilians!"

heroicanpc-patriciacousland.jpg

"Trick Lyslime! I thought you split the scene years ago... literally. Now don't you try anything. These people are heroes of Heroica, and they will hack to you pieces."

heroicaquest142-sleazygoo.jpg

"Did ya say Heroica?!"

heroicaquest142-viscousrain.jpg

"We've gots a score to settle wiv 'em!"

heroicaquest142-oozingorgan.jpg

"Some Heroicans did away poor Slim Yscum some years ago, they did! He was a phlegm with a heart of goo, victim of this cruel society."

heroicaquest142-viscousrain.jpg

"And ours boss before Trick and his no-good brover 'ere oozed along."

heroicaquest142-sleazygoo.jpg

"Slim dealed some good stuff, I tell ya... I even kept his hat as a memento."

heroicaquest142-tricklyslime.jpg

"Yeah, yeah, settle down, blobs! We'll avenge Slim, here and now. Maybe then you'll start giving me the respect I deserve! Ain't that right, Dexter and Sinister?"

heroicaquest142-dribblyslimesinister.jpgheroicaquest142-dribblyslimedexter.jpg

"You're the boss, bro!"

Captain Cousland turned to the heroes.

heroicanpc-patriciacousland.jpg

"Listen up, these criminal phlegmen are serious business. Not only are they armed and dangerous, each hit they take splits them into two, quickly multiplying their ranks. I will go fetch my men, try to hold them back until I get back!"

"I think this would be a good time to use my Aeolus Bomb, right? That should do some heavy damage."

I clap my hands excitedly.

"Oh, yes, please do. My parents never let me touch explosives and I'd so like to see one work. Do you think you'll be able to destroy them all in one big bang?"

I say, preparing to attack Visco Usrain from the Front Row if Torald doesn't throw the bomb.

"You should go first Torald, so we can watch the bang!"
