I just have one question (and then some probably later X-D ), could you tell me how the mine feature actually works? Because I looked through it a couple of times but couldn't work out how the rocks are supposed to go up that slope or what way it is meant to happen! *wacko* I would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me on this but if not then I completely understand what with all buzz surrounding this set! *sweet* TTFN! >:-) Quote

I'll explain more in a possible fourth page of the review tomorrow and probably make fun of it too :-D . Until then Hinckley out! *wub* *sad* zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Quote
CopMike Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Excellent review hinckley *y*! This set will be mine very soon I hope ....! Such a lot of new minifig stuff - LEGO is really pushing the envelope nowadays *wub*! Beside the *wub* *wub* *wub* - picture of the big party this is my favorite >:-) : Whack that "wannabe-viking" good Mr Troll! The dwarfs hair and overall look are very Asterix & Obelix *sweet*! Dwarfs On copmike Quote
Joey Lock Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Ive got to say I love the set but I think on Brickshelf your gonna see alot of Asterix and Obelix minifigs also alot of BlackBeards. But thats what makes the set so good theres alot of useful pieces Quote
xwingyoda Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 You lucky beeeeep X-D Tks Hinckie for this great and hilarious review !! Tanotrooper Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 hehe, you made bonaparte smaller :-P thanks for the pics, looks like a great set but is the troll helmet removable and of so, can you take a pic of it and perhaps on a minifig head X-D TT Quote
Aredhel Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 That was a really really great review. I hope to get this set too! I love the dwarfes and the trolls and everything! -Aredhel Quote
sam89 Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I'm not really into Castle, but I love this set! The playability looks great and figures are just fantastic! So many new molds in lots of different colours! Quote
Asuka Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Thank you very much for a nice review and very cool pictures of a really great set, hinckley! *y* There Quote
Khorne Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Wow! Hinckley, you lucky guy!!! I really, really want this set! The orcs and dwarves look so *wub* . The set looks way better than I thought at first. I'm glad that TLC changed the prototype orc helmet to the barbute one. I really hated the first one :-X . The dwarf helms really kick megablocks too *sweet* . Great set, can't wait to get it *wub* . Quote
Wobo Ihi Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Thanks for the pictures, hinck. I really like the new "troll" minifigs and parts, especially their shields. The dwarves are pretty good too... Quote
TroyTMoore Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Thank you Hinckley for the excellent review. SWMAN indelibly said Personally, i think it was a really weak review. For such a great set, it could have been so much better. All of the other lego characters threw me off and made it annoying. Also, words help. @SWMAN; I nearly fell out of my chair when I read that. Firstly, an old adage is that a pic is worth a thousand words...plenty of words with even the first few pics posted. Secondly, you ungrateful whelp, I am primarily a lurker here, and rarely do I see this sort of blatant disregard for the significant contributions of very active members such as Hinckley. Thirdly, I am not trying to start a quarrel. You are fortunate that the other members that posted so far are so gracious. Back to the real topic; I will be waiting for this set to show up on S@H as there is no other way that I will be able to get it in Canada. Whoever said that there would never be LOTR LEGO is now proven sooo wrong. Gimli anyone? Those little trolls/orcs/goblins are dang cool. Based on this picture review I will get 2 sets as quick as I can and probably 1 for each of my children for Christmas. My LEGO Castle world will never be the same. Hinckley, I really appreciated the humour throughout the review, especially "Hello friend" with pic, I laughed out loud. Quote
blueandwhite Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Thanks for those shots. Great picks. Oh and Hinckley, that last shot was priceless! *y* *y* *y* Quote
szww Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 (edited) I *wub* the set hickley, you just gave a new meaning to word "review" X-D New quality of reviewing ON :-D EDIT: I would love to see the new shield pictured with other shield types...to compare size... will it be possible to take that photo... PLEASE :-$ Edited October 6, 2007 by szww Quote
SirNadroj Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 (edited) Great review! *y* How much was this set? $50, $60 even? EDIT: And Hinckley, could you take the troll apart and take a picture of the serperate peices together? I'm curious how <insert that tiresome argument> it really is. ;-) Edited October 6, 2007 by SirNadroj Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I have to say, I couldn't stop laughing at that review! Superb job, hinckley! Superb! May I ask, are there any dwarf heads other than the cheek-boned police head and the bearded Creator train conductor? The Troll legs are a little small, in comparison with the entire monster. It's still a great set, and it's funny how the gems go back the same way every single time! :-D *even more deafening applause* Quote
SWMAN Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I just think that while the pictures are the best part of a review, words help to explain the set like whats included, how stuff works, and if you think it is a good set. Also, I just think putting all those other figures in it makes it hard to see the actual set. Quote
Siegfried Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I just think that while the pictures are the best part of a review, words help to explain the set like whats included, how stuff works, and if you think it is a good set. Also, I just think putting all those other figures in it makes it hard to see the actual set. Hinckley did say that he "will be changing it over the weekend" so your comment was, in my opinion, rude. He went out of his way to post a half review, even though he had work to do, and instead of thanking him you complained. You didn't even have one positive word to say... :'-( Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I just think that while the pictures are the best part of a review, words help to explain the set like whats included, how stuff works, and if you think it is a good set. Also, I just think putting all those other figures in it makes it hard to see the actual set. Nonsense! That's the whole point, to make it more enjoyable than an ordinary everyday review! And hinckley is clearly good at that, which I find most gratifying to know! Come on, I don't really know what's left to say. Everything is pretty much summed up in his review. If you think that with those other figures it's hard to see, then that's just over the top. What's left to see? What's blocked in one pic is revealed in another. It's called viewing with coordination. Quote
Brick Miner Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 thanks hinckley. im most interested in the backside of the mine. i like seeing the path of the gold/silver, and how it starts in the bottom level of the mine, and its many outputs in front. the bottom of the mine looks dark and scary down there... so that's a nice touch. i only wish there was more bricks and slopes representing rocks in the bottom of the mine. all-in-all it's not a bad set, the playability is supurb, i just wish it was more enclosed and felt like a model, not just a playset. - BM Quote
Corvus Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 all-in-all it's not a bad set, the playability is supurb, i just wish it was more enclosed and felt like a model, not just a playset. I think It'll still look amazing on a shelf, even if it isn't enclosed. The level of detail it has will be great for sitting on a fairly good level (head-height, I think) shelf. I probably won't play with this set as much as strip it down ( :'-( ) for parts, but if I can salvage it I'll shelve it. (Once I buy more shelves, that is. |-/ ) Hinckley, do you mind if I ask a silly little request? Quote
oo7 Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Many thanks for such excellent pictures of an excellent set, Hinkie! Now that I know what this set is about, I think I might just have to purchase a copy from a Target vending entity in the next day or to. I love those beards, they gave Gimli written all over them. *wub* The complex system of chutes and cable lines is quite impressive. I wonder why they put slits like that those technic pin tubes, however. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Great review Hink, and I love your Web Site. Very nice. I can't believe we finally have dwarves. Now we just need elves for the next batch of new Castle figs. I really like the orcs. They will make a great addition to Grave Stone (eventually). We can finally have a great game of Lego D&D. The set has some great playability factors. I also like the iron wheel. I'm most impressed with the mining cars - both color and build. I would have expected single piece molds as well, but the design is very nice. You had commented about the use of a catapult in a mine. I'm picturing this set within a much larger cavern/grotto. In any case, I've been noticing your avatar and guessing you had the new set. Great review and the bit of humor with adding some of the EBers to it, priceless. Thanks for an excellent review! Quote
