Starwars4J Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I just think that while the pictures are the best part of a review, words help to explain the set like whats included, how stuff works, and if you think it is a good set. Also, I just think putting all those other figures in it makes it hard to see the actual set. If you love words so much, why didn't you bother reading the part where it said "I'll be adding to this over the weekend"? |-/ I think TroyTMoore summed it up nicely though *y* Quote
xwingyoda Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Come on people !! Sure Swan's comment was not very EB friendly, however I really don't regard it as "rude". Hinckie has loads of private EB humour which I love (and which a lot of you love) but some members looking for normal reviews can be a bit frustrated by that. *yoda* Quote

IMO, reviewers are giving their time to share a set with the community and should be thanked, not criticised. Anyway, like I said, I have no problem with the criticism, some good points were even made, but like SW4J said, if you wanted words so badly, why didn't you read the words I did write, that I'd be adding more. If there's one thing I can't stand it's unappreciative people. Can someone who's even more of a web geek than me explain how I can block an IP address from viewing my site with HTAccess? THanks. Mr. Mandalorian, I can't wait to hear your request. :-D Tanotrooper, the helmet on the troll doesn't come off :-/ I will try to get everyone's requests into the review. I have a busy day, so look for it tonight or tomorrow...This review has become very popular and I can foresee a data transfer problem coming up with my server :-/ I'm glad you are all (mostly) enjoying the review and am happy to share it with everybody. It is a very cool set. If I get my work done early enough, I may conclude the review with a comic... :-$ Quote

I suppose we always forget there's always a subtle member here, one not always ready to laugh. We should respect those who are more serious than we, and laugh if we are less serious than they. *yoda* Quote
Joebot Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Great pictures as always, Hinckley. Thanks! The dwarves look terrific. Lego really went above and beyond with those beards, and the braids hanging down the back. I definitely didn't expect that much detail. I'm a little disappointed with the big troll though. He's extremely cute ... but only four points of articulation? Ugh. Lego big-figs, like the Harry Potter cave troll (only ONE freaking arm moved!!), the abominable snowman, tiger, etc. from Adventurers, and even Hagrid ... they all have two lousy points of articulation. The troll adds wrist movement, which is nice. I could even live with neck articulation, but these things really need to be able to bend at the waist so you can move their legs. I suppose it's a cost issue, huh? Bummer. Anyway, cool set. It's really different than any Castle set Lego has done before. Quote
Corvus Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Mr. Mandalorian, I can't wait to hear your request. :-D Well, I was wondering if (if you have the minifig) you could do a scene similar to the one in your avatar, but with my sigfig. :-$ I'd do it myself, but I checked my Target, it wasn't there (no suprise !) and my shadowbox is currently buried in in books because the foamcore is bent. :-/ I may conclude the review with a comic... :-$ I was wondering if that would happen... :-P Quote
Ikki o' Moopyville Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 BOY does that look astonishingly gorgeous! *sweet* There are so many gems in this set, even leaving out the puns, that I can get neither my mind nor eyes off it. Awesome to see all the non-chrome metal colors! And the figs! Great wobblin' goblins, fairly all right troll... and the dwarves are nigh perfect! I wish the beards would be a bit more compatible with other headgear -- I especially planned to use them for gnomes and vikings... but still not bad at all. And a darker brown. And shortlegs galore. :'-) Though TLC's goodies fall short of the review itself. :-D Brilliant photography, and brilliant pics. This has officially made my day! *wub* Thank ye, Jack! That is, until I drink my brain into unconciousness later tonight... then tomorrow I'll have forgotten all this and will be awestruck once more! X-D -Ikk Quote
Sir Dillon Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Thanks for the review, Hinckley! This set looks so cool, especially those figures. *wub* Quote

SirNadroj Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 (edited) I checked one of my local TRU's and nothing. I'll check another one tonight, since I'll be up in that neck of the woods, and I'll try a Target whenever I can get to one. :'-( In the mean time, I made a couple of trolls for myself: Ice Troll and Fire Troll. Eh, I was bored! :-D There'll probably be more pics in my custom minifigures thread if you can stand to see more. ;-) Edited October 6, 2007 by SirNadroj Quote

TheCloneWalker Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 (edited) Wow! Thanks for the review Hinckley! I'll be sure to put this on my Xmas list, assuming it'll be out in Europe by Christmas. Lego Santa will bring me it... or eat hot laser... TCW Edited October 6, 2007 by TheCloneWalker Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 That's a nice set! I love the beards, would look good on a custom asterix and obelix or on vikings *y* Quote
Shakar Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 (edited) If you don't mind, can I do some pic requests? 1)Dwarves without helmets or beards 2)Silver winged helmet on a regular Crown Knight spearman 3)A random minifig with a winged helmet and a bandana (on the side that covers the mouth). Colours don't matter. Even if you can't, thank you very much for this wonderful review of a wonderful set. *wub* *wub* *wub* Shakar Edited October 6, 2007 by Shakar Quote
casewindu Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Personally, i think it was a really weak review. For such a great set, it could have been so much better. All of the other lego characters threw me off and made it annoying. Also, words help. That was a very harsh thing to say! If you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all :-P Personally the figures of other admins and fellows is a funny thing to add because it gives the review a little more humour and it is a trademark of Hinckleys.Plus I dont read much of the writing anyway, just pics! X-D Anyway I really like this set now and I am very tempted to buy it! I love the way the dwarfs have both a hat and hair that is very rarely seen in any theme in Lego. I also think the anvil is a great touch and the mine carts are fantastic.Thank you Hinckley for taking the time to take the many pictures an dto give us an insight into this set that I haven't seen before, it was very kind of you. It's wierd though because you have already bought this set but where I live they haven't even got any of the new knight theme yet! It's very strange and I wonder if anyone can tell me why this is. Appreciated! ;-) Quote

ZeekyBoogeyDoog Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Hinckley, may your camels always walk straight and true and your chewing gum never lose its flavour ;-) Thanks for this review!! This was a very fun review to look at, and I saw some things I couldn't have from the images online, like the mine cars' construction, the bucket/chute doohickey, your hand, etc. Quote
hollisbrick Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Thanks hinck for your !"GREAT"! review and pics! Quote
Hinckley Posted October 7, 2007 Author Posted October 7, 2007 I don't know how I didn't realize this at first, but the dwarf beards are an entirely new color of brown: Quote
