I was thinking of attempting to Bricklink/piece together the Green Grocer with my sons but obviously the price of the sand green bricks is somewhat offputting. I have seen a Sand Blue Grocer and I believe a Sand Yellow/Tan but am wondering if anyone has had success with other colours for their Grocer. Red? Bright Green (I know the 1 x 2 brick with groove doesn't come in bright green)? Dark Bley? If anyone has pictures of their mod could you post them so we can have a look at how the building looks? I have no idea how to use LDD to try and create/change a set so please don't suggest that.

Thanks

Here is one in Sand Blue, Dark Red, White and Pink... found them on Flickr.com 14240130418_bc1730c310_z.jpg4776623364_bc395c5e15_z.jpg12553808464_33f1eec25a_z.jpg4613963980_2b7ab3ac07_z.jpg

I think white could work if you didn't also have white windows. They get lost in the shuffle.

Pink has the groove brick now thanks to Minecraft, (also reddish brown and dark red and tan I think), so those could be options in the future as well. That pink could be modified.

So far, sand blue has been my favorite, thus why I built one myself last year.

Most of those version looks quite nice, I wonder how a dark red one would look like.

I also found a tan version on brickshelf.

Thanks for the pictures LegoSjaak. The Sand Blue is nice but given thats the colour of the Pet Shop I would probably try something else. One combination I was thinking of trying would be the colour scheme from Arkham Asylum - the dark bley/dark red combo....personally AA is one of my top 5 favorite builds and would love to have it replicated elsewhere.

I thought it would be an interesting exercise to render the Green Grocer in every color in which the grooved 1 x 2 brick is made.

First, the original sand green version:

And the other colors:

I also tried several different window colors when the building is in white.

Hope this helps!

Wow!!

GG is my favorite modular, though I just bricklinked in the original sand green. I almost wish I had experimented with other colors first.

Xon67's chart would be immeasurably useful. Very fun to look at, if nothing else.

The white one with the tan windows in the front row is superb. Someday I may have to build me another one.

Chubbs--Glad to help out.

Hemlock Falls--I like the tan windows, too. It ties the tower into the windows on the middle floor and the striping around the top two floors.

Oh man... I love the pink version.... I could also see the lime green as a nice alternative too... and the white with brown windows...

Thansk Xon67 you've done it again!

At Chubbs' request, here are some renders with the masonry brick in place of the grooved brick:

The original "Green" Grocer:

Other available colors for the masonry brick (and some variations in the window using the popular tan color):

Here's Chubbs' idea of using the Arkham Asylum colors, dark red and dark gray (replacing the medium gray from above):

Well...if your renderings Xon67 don't give people lots of ideas, I don't know what will!! Thank you so much!

As an aside...ran the parts list through Brickstock and changing out the Sand Green for a more common colour can save almost half of the estimated Bricklinking value (based on average 6 month sale prices)...so if you're on a budget its definitely worth at least considering a colour change.

As a further aside Green Grocer

So, technically, you can make a sand blue Green Grocer.

to be precise, then it would probably be a sand blue Greengrocer, right?:wink:

Nice renders, Xon67, thanks a lot for posting.

I really like the dark grey/dark red color scheme. Dark nougat with masonry bricks looks great, too.

While I don't think I'll ever bricklink a color variation of Green Grocer (having it in sand blue is enough for me), I may do a MOC someday of a building in similar style to accompany it.

Can you actually get the masonry brick in Sand Green?

Yes, it's available.

 Yes. Did you join just to point that out? Welcome to the site, ya smartass.

Thanx Dude. I am reading eurobricks for a long time, but actually, yes i decided to comment on you and give the start for other comments on the future.

back to topic:

2 months ago i finished my own sandgreen Greengrocer and decided to use the masonrybricks, until the grooved ones will become available one day (hope dies last...). I made some minor improvements due to the fact, that nowadays new parts/ parts in a specific color are made and must say: It looks pretty good. Maybe i can take some pics...

Briefly looked at the parts list for GG - several substitutions would have to be done as 1 x3 bricks don't exist in Dark Red and 1 x 8 bricks are crazy expensive in Dark Red.

I'm leaning towards doing the build in Dark Bley with Dark Red accent (where the tan is on the original) but Dark Red 1 x 6 arch are hard to find and expensive so I may have to figure out another possibility.

Keep the colour scheme suggestions coming - I'm sure Xon67 can render whatever you like if you ask nicely enough.

I have done mine using the tan color for the sand green. I never got around to swapping the tan band for light bley, like I originally intended..I think it looks fine as it is for now.

Thanks a lot Xon67! My favorite is the dark red (in both grooved and masonry bricks). My second favorite is the dark orange masonry brick.
