Typically, Train and Technic have the least amount of problems as they tend to attract the more mature and adult builders who have serious things to discuss. I think I've said it before in this thread, but both forums will typically have less "i want a funktchinning hoper car alreadyz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cannon::monkey:" or "the leggo trainz show on cn is so lamez i cant believe it duz any1 else watch it its stupid"

This is harsh and unusual hoppercarlust-shaming.

I'm a Gen–Xer. I don't meme.

Now that should be a meme...

:laugh::rofl::thumbup: :thumbup:

Can I steal that, and put it in a movie?

Sure, just thank me in your Oscar speech.

Does this work for a meme? Maybe it is better for a title. :classic:

Ugh! It burns my eyes!

Because this happens when I remove the font on a mobile device. I don't have acces to a computer at the moment. I will try to edit tomorrow.

I basically want 'FLICKR' to appear in my sig with a hyperlink but I can't do that on a mobile device. (Or at least not on my iPad)

Maybe some nice mod will fix it for you...perhaps one that hates all caps.

I would personally have to say Captain Nemo is a bit rude certainly not to the extent as some examples but still. It's a shame since he is a great builder that I feel this way

Why exactly? It's not really fair to say something like that and not mention why. Edited by BrickCurve

Agreed. Nemo was just promoted to Moderator because he does a great job in a forum that is hard to control because of all of the activity. Our volunteer staff has to drop the hammer sometimes to get topics back on track and that is especially true in the Licensed forum. So if you see one of our staff members being "a bit rude" you may want to consider what they are trying to accomplish and what they are working against to accomplish it. People can't behave just any way they want here, especially when that behavior causes other members to not enjoy discussions or make it impossible for new members or people who are new to a discussion to be able to follow it.

I don't think Nemo's behavior is a shame at all as the decision to promote him was unanimous from the rest of the staff. I think if you're going to label someone's behavior a "shame" you owe it to them to provide an example of said behavior for them to answer to. In my opinion, Nemo has absolutely earned that respect.

If you can't follow the Site Guidelines to remain on topic, you will be warned again.

You were given a +0 to your warn level, which I use to track minor offenses and does not count towards you getting banned.

If you want to continue this discussion on my Moderating, respond in the Some Rude Moderators? Topic. This has been discussed ENOUGH in this topic.

Thanks.

Seriously, if you just gave a little nudge like 'Maybe you should discuss this in another thread' instead of the rather intimidatory 'warning' system then things like this would not happen.

If you would follow the Site Guidelines to stay on topic, then you wouldn't need a warning. It shouldn't matter how I warned you. You don't have to feel intimidated, just be mindful of what you post in what topic.

If someone needs a reminder once in a while, their warn level won't increase but will get another +0 Warning. Those who frequently require a warning from me to stay on topic, will get their warn level increased.

I feel there are too many people who go way off topic for multiple replies making it difficult for the discussion to continue for its actual purpose. Blanket responses or nudges from staff don't seem to be enough, especially when I see some topics with multiple staff reminders in each page of a topic. Those who I see are consistently off topic, will be better tracked through the warning system.

Not to mention, Phred is one of the few moderators who contacts the members directly. Most of us leave a warning on your profile that only we can see and then we take more drastic action when they build up. So, he's showing you a lot of respect by letting you know when you're violating the Site Guidelines. No, you can't just do whatever you want. Moderating discussions is not easy, especially in a forum like Licensed, for example, where a lot of younger members get excited and want to talk about set news and end up speculating and getting way off–topic.

We know what we are doing when it comes to keeping the site running smoothly. There are plenty of places on this site to take the discussions that are going off–topic. We have provided that for you. If you want to continue an off–topic discussion you are more than free to do so in the appropriate thread. If a staff member tells you the discussion is getting off–topic, take a second to look at what you are contributing to that. It takes a community–minded approach from every aspect of the membership to make it a successful forum. Being irritated because someone has told you that you're not helping to keep the discussion focused is, in my opinion, self–centered thinking.

:hmpf:

Guys please. This is the 2017 DC Set Discussion thread. Talk about the sets here, or don't talk at all--everything else surly has an appropriate discussion thread elsewhere. Incidentally, it doesn't help the thread stay on track when people start debating what belongs in it.

Thanks!

This, by the way, is a lot nicer than the way I get topics back on track. I think he's being very respectful. Keep in mind the 2016 Licensed news thread was 377 pages long. How would someone new to the conversation know where to start or to follow along. That is the type of thing we try to avoid. I'd hate to have to audit that thread to see exactly how much of it was used to actually discuss news. We can't just let it go off the rails. We have to keep the discussion focused to the topic. There are others places to have the other discussions with the same people.

I would love to see the statistics on this... I wonder what the average ratio is of warning level to post count is. Do the warning levels ever get reset? I also wonder what my warning level is at?

It'd be a useless statistic even if it were available. We use the warning system primarily to administratively keep track of incidents and interactions with members. Some moderators add a point (or more, depending on the severity) for every incident and others just leave it as it is. So you're not automatically in trouble when you reach a certain warn level and you're not "safe" when your warn level is 0. We occasionally remove points, but there is no rule for that. Some members live happily ever after on EB with a pretty high warn level for ancient incidents.

Does the warning system track who added the points?
