Posted November 1, 20159 yr Time to unveil my latest creation, the crawler crane. Years ago I saw a nat. geo. documentary on a station in the south pole. During the construction of it, there was a crawler crane with a three section boom. Fast forward to April 2015, I built a three section boom for a crawler crane but due to having too many projects, it was never finished. When I saw the crane competition I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to make a crawler crane. November 1, 20159 yr Boom:extension: -1 XL motor Raising/lowering: -1 L motor Why you have used XL motor for extending the boom?
November 1, 20159 yr Author Why you have used XL motor for extending the boom? Many gears = Friction = more torque needed
November 1, 20159 yr Author How many? 8 normal gears plus one worm gear. It was the only way to make it this compact.

November 1, 20159 yr Author I think that 8 gears would allow to make reduction and use M motor for that function. Well I really needed to use my m motor for the superstructure rotation due to size constraints.
