Darkdragon Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Sign-Up | Confirmation | Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Conclusion Congrats scum team: def & Dragonfire for a clean sweep victory! Thank you everyone who played, I hope you had fun with this new short/small game format. For those that are curious, the name of the layout is "Scales of Justice" on MafiaWiki PC & NPC Character Bios: Henry Bernard (NPC) The elderly park ranger, on his way to retirement soon. He has been working at the park since it opened 30 years ago. It makes sense that he would know every nook and cranny of the park, and has keys to all of the buildings and supplies. He is worried that he won't be able to survive after retirement because he didn't save much money in his youth and the park doesn't provide any kind of retirement benefits. Mark Sykes (NPC) The new park ranger, being trained and groomed by Henry to take over after he retires. Mark is young and seems clever but lazy. He avoids giving straight answers to questions, is often not around, and always seems to be looking for a shortcut to complete tasks. Kaylan Haney (NPC) The resident botanist, Kaylan knows everything about every plant and even minerals in the park. She can even tell someone what could be combined to create fire from just items found naturally. She is very smart and a bit quiet, seemingly relating only to plants and not so much humans. She is suspicious of Scooby because he might harm her plants by his digging and other dog things. Alec McKenzie (Bob) Alec is a computer programmer and avid gamer. Her hobbies don't include camping, but she came here with her grandma, Carla. Even though she doesn't like camping and nature, she loves her grandma and enjoys spending some time with her. Carla Riddle (Dragonator) Carla has always been a lover of nature, and she's headed out to the park for the weekend with her granddaughter, Alec. She's hoping to instill the love of nature in her grandaughter who normally keeps her eyes glued to a computer screen and ears covered with bulky headphones. Derrick Bird (Dragonfire) Derrick is out to get some time away from his stressful job as an highschool math teacher and his family of four rambunctious kids. He opted for a tent instead of a cabin to be closer to nature. Desiree Walters (mediumsnowman) Desiree is pumped for her week long vacation in the state park. She's been preparing for months for the vacation and took the whole week off work. Against the wishes of her family, she even left her cell phone and laptop at home, bringing only her camera. Lynn Benton (TrumpetKing) Lynn has been coming to the park for many years. Every October she spends a weekend there to relax and commune with nature. She always leaves her smartphone at home and comes only with an old flip phone for emergencies. Matthew Huff (def) Matthew doesn't think that camping should involve a bunch of fancy clothes and gear. He sleeps under a tarp and cooks his daily soup over a small campfire. He's truly living off the land during his stay at the park. Patti Best (Piratedave84) Patti is a funloving young lady who likes to explore the forest and look for flowers and cute animals. She often is found up in a tree or down on the ground taking photos of birds, squirrels, plants and even bugs. Trenton Collins (JackJonespaw) Trenton has always been into technology, but after all the stories about the impending end of the world and threats of apocalyptic attacks, he's decided to try some survivalist training. The real bootcamp starts next month, so he felt like trying it on his own at the park would be a good jumpstart and less stressful than the real training. Theodore Dunn (Scubacarrot) An ex military man, Theodore comes to the park to keep himself in shape physically and mentally. He thinks all these young people these days are lazy and have no direction in life. He's a man of few words but when he speaks, people tend to listen. Piratedave84 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 ... Told you DF was scum! So how would you guys have handled the claim? I also have a question about Medium; I had investigated her night 2 and knew she was town. I'm not sure my play was optimal but I could not just sit there and let her be lynched. How would you have dealt with this?
Tariq j Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Good play guys! This has been a very fun game to watch.
mediumsnowman Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) Great game, thanks for hosting DD. I still think cop/doctor would have been a better combo. Can we please see the scumboard? Good job scummos, I never suspected you. At the end I still thought it was Lynn and Patti. Edited November 7, 2015 by mediumsnowman
Darkdragon Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Can we please see the scumboard? That is up to the scum team to share or not.
TrumpetKing Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 *sigh* Good game, scum team. Totally called it at the end, but good game. Disappointed that a loss had to come from my being "scummy", which all in all I still don't particylarly understand, especially when it came from Scuba, who I didn't recall making any note of it beforehand. I thought the entire situation was handled really badly near the end and having our loss come down to "doing the opposite of what Lynn does" was both disappointing and honestly made me feel a little bit bad. It felt like I was being treated differently for the situation, which confused me, because I was nowhere near confirmed, and I don't know where Scuba even got that idea from. The entire situation just felt (while I do understand the motive), a little rude without any real acknowledgement of what I had been saying, and honestly a little sloppy. There shouldn't have been a reason for Scuba especially to vote opposite of me just because it was where I was voting. Blegh. Oh, and before I forget, thank you for hosting DD! I'm very happy I got to play this game, even if I don't know that I enjoyed what actually happened.
JackJonespaw Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Hey, great game, everyone! Very fun to play and watch. I seriously should consider reading the Mafia wiki once in a while.
Dragonfire Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Great game, thanks for hosting DD! I'm glad we won, but a lot of it was just luck though I also have a question about Medium; I had investigated her night 2 and knew she was town. I'm not sure my play was optimal but I could not just sit there and let her be lynched. How would you have dealt with this? We knew you were the cop from that. Not sure about how you could have done better though Can we please see the scumboard? I wish you had left me alive Night 3, Day 4 would have been even crazier! Dave would've claimed his town result on me; we would probably be accused of being scumbuddies. I tried to track def but it wouldn't have mattered as he didn't carry out the kill.

Otherwise def would have claimed tracker and Dave would have had inno's on both of you....imagine how that would have worked out!? But then again, if we didn't kill you, we would have killed Dave so none of that would have happened. Thanks for the deadboard link! Glad that I convinced some people with my claim!

Scubacarrot Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Ooops . *sigh* Good game, scum team. Totally called it at the end, but good game. I'm very happy I got to play this game, even if I don't know that I enjoyed what actually happened. It's not you, it was basically: No matter how you turn it, def had been investigated as town, by both cops. One of the cops must be town, and all that was left was you as being the scum. In the end, the decision rested on me, and I made the wrong one. Note what I say in my last post, haha. Well played, Dragonfire and def! At one point I referenced someone stating that a Godfather was really unlikely, only later on did I realize that it was def, the only candidate for being the actual godfather, that had made that comment. That was a very good play. Thank you very much for hosting DD, even though I had far too little time, I enjoyed myself a lot, the game was beautifully presented, and the small games are my favorite. Dave: One of these days, I will believe a word you say. And it will probably burn me.
def Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Woo hoo! Thanks DD! ... Told you DF was scum! So how would you guys have handled the claim? I also have a question about Medium; I had investigated her night 2 and knew she was town. I'm not sure my play was optimal but I could not just sit there and let her be lynched. How would you have dealt with this? I would have let medium be lynched, ultimately. I would simply have suggested someone else. For the claim, I think it was fine. You just didn't hammer the logic down more. I had an argument with the point that scum might claim to finish the day, but you had an argument that you nominated Trumpet for lynch and Trumpet voted with you, showing you were on the same side; meaning you were both unlikely to be scum. Great game, thanks for hosting DD. I still think cop/doctor would have been a better combo. Can we please see the scumboard? Good job scummos, I never suspected you. At the end I still thought it was Lynn and Patti. Doctor wouldn't have made a difference in 3-day game. *sigh* Good game, scum team. Totally called it at the end, but good game. I'm very happy I got to play this game, even if I don't know that I enjoyed what actually happened. You called it on day 4 when dual cops claimed, and I was arguing your scumminess, with you knowing you were town. Don't pat yourself on the back too much Why didn't you guys kill me? Credit to Dragonfire, they called you as cop. I really was absent/sloppy in paying attention. You were fair game to kill, but ultimately, we played conservative and killed the known tracker rather than gamble on other premises. And sorry to Bob for slagging you off in thread. It was rude, but I wanted to keep my distance from killing you off night two. ........... Fantastic deadboard. Wow, Dragonfire was much more convincing than I thought. I thought their claim was pretty weak compared to Dave's. Amazing the tint that being scum puts on your view of things.
mostlytechnic Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Thanks, this was fun to watch but very frustrating. I would have done so much differently if I was in the game and probably gotten lynched quickly :) Day 1, I would have pushed for the cop/watcher combo. In this scenario, that would have acted like a cop/doc combo in a normal game. Cop could have claimed once a scummo was found (or a know townie was about to be lynched) and the watcher could have watched them, effectively preventing the scum from killing the cop that night. Might have only bought 1 more night for the cop, but it'd have made claiming a bit less likely. And with so few players, 1 more night would likely be all that was needed. That seems to me more helpful than HOPING that a tracker happens to catch the scum killer. Day 2, I agree with whoever suggested no lynch. I know that's a forbidden suggestion around here and practicly grounds for a policy lynch with some of you, but in this game, you shouldn't have lynched. There wasn't going to be enough days to learn much from voting patterns. And with only a handful of players, EVERY townie life was very valuable. I don't think the little that could be learned from the lynch was worth it when day 1 lynches are so rarely accurate.Heck, go look at the votes now that the scum are known. Def voted alone for medium, and DF was about 3/4 of the way down the wagon on dragonator. Neither is normal scummo spots. But this is sorta why I really liked watching this game. Being so different (very little night actions, no PMs, short) means the normal ways of playing don't necessarily work and it pushes people to play differently. About that ending though... I'm one of those evil hoarders. You should see my garage - probably close to $10k in lego BNIB stored there. I've sold off most of the old stuff - now I've mostly got a handful each of the more recent modulars, etc, that I'm waiting for prices to go up on. Your photos made me drool though - I WISH I had 20 each of Cafe Corner and UCS MF.!!!
Darkdragon Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 I agree that the cop/watcher combo would have been the best choice, and if you look back at day 1 it's really the scum team that seems to be leading everyone away from or into ignoring the watcher as an option. They must have realized how powerful that combo would have been for the town. About that ending though... I'm one of those evil hoarders. Your photos made me drool though - I WISH I had 20 each of Cafe Corner and UCS MF.!!! As long as you aren't murdering people to keep them from discovering your horde I think you're safe. I don't really have anything against hoarders, it was more complex when I wrote the story but nobody would want to read another 15 pages of comic I'm sure. The game for me was a bit disapointing, there was hardly any posting, it almost semed like nobody was participating and just waiting on someone else to do something so they could bandwagon along. Scubacarrot and Dragonator are the only ones who bothered to try to do anything with the character itself. It really seemed like the last 4 days of a normal size game, nobody saying anything and characters out the window. I've added the character bio writeups to the first post in case anyone is curious about them.

Scubacarrot and Dragonator are the only ones who bothered to try to do anything with the character itself. It really seemed like the last 4 days of a normal size game, nobody saying anything and characters out the window. For my part, role-playing has just never been my thing (one of a number of reasons I'm never seen in Heroica). In mafia, it's led to some bad lynches in games, because someone is being too much of a character. As days go on, it just gets even harder to get things done. As a host, I can feel your frustration of things not going as you hope. Possibly, next game, in sign-ups, you can make a "Will you promise to stay in character for the game?" question to make sure players know?
Dragonfire Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Why didn't you guys kill me? Ultimately, it was because if we'd left medium alive, we'd have to claim tracker and both of us were in such a position that claiming tracker would be unbelievable considering our Day 3 performances (cause we both said we believed medium). We thought killing medium and counterclaiming you had a higher success rate. At one point I referenced someone stating that a Godfather was really unlikely, only later on did I realize that it was def, the only candidate for being the actual godfather, that had made that comment. That was a very good play. I brought up the possibility of def being the Godfather on Day 4, and then kicked myself when both you and Trumpet picked up on that For the claim, I think it was fine. You just didn't hammer the logic down more. I had an argument with the point that scum might claim to finish the day, but you had an argument that you nominated Trumpet for lynch and Trumpet voted with you, showing you were on the same side; meaning you were both unlikely to be scum. TBH that looked extremely scummy to me, even though I was scum myself! I would have made the same call as Scuba if I were in his shoes and town. It looked like Dave was strongly "suspecting" his buddy while pushing a different lynch candidate and ultimately voting with Trumpet. Doctor wouldn't have made a difference in 3-day game. Credit to Dragonfire, they called you as cop. I really was absent/sloppy in paying attention. You were fair game to kill, but ultimately, we played conservative and killed the known tracker rather than gamble on other premises. Dave being cop was fairly obvious from how he tried to save medium on Day Three. Medium, did you pick up on it before Dave claimed? Fantastic deadboard. Wow, Dragonfire was much more convincing than I thought. I thought their claim was pretty weak compared to Dave's. Amazing the tint that being scum puts on your view of things. I wouldn't have claimed if I didn't think I could beat Dave's claim. I almost "got" a town result on Scuba/a scum result on Trumpet, but then I decided it was safer to be open-minded about the "second scum" in case the one who I "got" a town result on turned against me. (btw I'm a he, not a they fyi ) Day 1, I would have pushed for the cop/watcher combo. So would I, but the tracker/cop combo benefited scum more, so that's what we pushed Can't believe we actually manipulated the town into ruling out doctor and blocker (strongman ) and then pushed the Cop/Tracker instead of the more beneficial cop/watcher! But if I was town, that would have been my argument too. I agree that the cop/watcher combo would have been the best choice, and if you look back at day 1 it's really the scum team that seems to be leading everyone away from or into ignoring the watcher as an option. They must have realized how powerful that combo would have been for the town. Scubacarrot and Dragonator are the only ones who bothered to try to do anything with the character itself. It's not that big a deal really that I'd make it a sign-up requirement. The new crop of mafia players just doesn't role-play as much I guess.
Bob Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Excellent game! Short but exciting, and I really did enjoy the comics. Yeah I know you don't usually do much of it. It's not that big a deal really that I'd make it a sign-up requirement. The new crop of mafia players just doesn't role-play as much I guess. This is something that hits with me too. I usually write up detailed bios that largely get ignored after the first day or two. I even add this in as a rule/guideline to all of my games: 6) You are encouraged to role-play in this game. I've provided a role for you to expand upon if you wish. With that being said, please try not to post out of character in the game thread. You may PM other players, but do so at your own risk. I obviously don't demand RPing or provide penalties for not doing it, but I think the game is a bit more fun with the additional RP. I can understand that it sort of goes out the window towards the end of the game, but I still think it's a fun aspect that's largely being ignored lately. I do credit Dragonfire with staying in character during Blacktron Mafia, though.

My only problem with RP-ing is that if it's only one person doing it, then it's a bit weird if everyone else is acting normal. DF and Hinck definitely did great in Blacktron with their characters.
