Norro Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 You're writing stories? Are you creating MOCs to use as images like Athos and Mattzitron do? I haven't gotten nearly that far... I have a plot or two floating around in my head but I have never written purely for Lego and think a slight modification to a normal book may be neccessary. In a perfect world I would love to do a part brick animation part readable story. Anything I end up doing will be illustrated with the highest quality MOCs (I am practicing to attain the neccessary skill level...) God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 17, 2005 Author Governor Posted October 17, 2005 This sounds interesting! How long till you have something to show? Quote
Norro Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 This sounds interesting! How long till you have something to show? seeing as I haven't started yet... a while. I have at least 3+ more learning MOC projects before I'll feel ready to begin on a respectable 'world' for a story. God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 18, 2005 Author Governor Posted October 18, 2005 What are these learning MOCs? And would you like me to move these posts to a new thread since we appear to have gone right off topic? Quote
Norro Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 What are these learning MOCs?And would you like me to move these posts to a new thread since we appear to have gone right off topic? My first one was 'Cliffton' my next is a tad smaller but contains A LOT more detail (and some fancy building techniques for free...) the others are still in the secretive planning stages... God Bless, Nathan Off Topic: looks up in shock...we have topics?! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 19, 2005 Author Governor Posted October 19, 2005 Yeah we have topics alright! Apparently this thread is suppose to be about continuing the pirate theme where it left off but we seem to be discussing your MOCs. I thought we should glorify them in a brand new thread which would also keep this thread on topic. It would also allow us to go into greater discussion about your MOCS which is a fascinating topic in its own right. Quote
Tordenskjold Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 i wish they started up the lego theme again. and included more spanish sets. would like to get my hands on a Spanish galleon thats larger than BSB :) perhaps 20 wide and twize the length of BSB. with two gun deks , 10cannons and lots of spanish sailors :) that would be something to go after for a pirate :-D :-D as a start they could start making minifigs in from the theme again. that have to be a cheap prosess for them , only color and decal thats different :) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 25, 2006 Author Governor Posted June 25, 2006 You'd think it would be that easy Mr Tordenskjold - but apparently its not. In some parts of the world Imperial Guard and Imperial Armada mini-figures sell very well, while in others they don't. It would seem that the LEGO Company could strategy market these mini-figures and make a nice profit, but apparently, the way they manage thieir distribution of pieces this isn't feasible. There is a thread round here somewhere explaining it better than I can, but I do wish they would release Imperial Guard/Armada mini-figures in packs of 10... Quote
snefroe Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 well if i do remember this correctly, Lego is going to revive an older theme next year. Maybe it's pirates... or ... adventures... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 25, 2006 Author Governor Posted June 25, 2006 Where is this information originating from Count Sneffy? Its not some hopeful fan boys dreamful lamentings, is it? Quote
snefroe Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 i got it from the old green creature, i believe, Yoda... i think he said Lego was going to revive an older theme... could be adventures, really, so i wouldn't keep my hopes up, if i were you... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 25, 2006 Author Governor Posted June 25, 2006 Ahhhhhhh... Our blessid Armada Yoda! Yes, now I know what you're referring to. He's mentioned this to me before and he's very optimistic about the return of Pirates but I'm not sure that I hope he's right. I'd be very neverous is there was official word that The LEGO Company were releasing new SYSTEM Pirate sets... Quote

I'd be very neverous is there was official word that The LEGO Company were releasing new SYSTEM Pirate sets... yeah, i know what you mean... hehe maybe we'll get a three master with a long boat type of catapult and pirates fighting seasnakes... :-P no seriously, you're right! i'm afraid chances that lego screws up a new pirate line are a lot higher than lego doing at least as good as the old line... Governor Mister Phes Posted June 25, 2006 Author Governor Posted June 25, 2006 If The LEGO Company put me in charge of the set designs for a new SYSTEM Pirate theme there wouldn't be anything to worry about! MOCing is very frustrating because I don't always have the pieces I want to use so I can't make my imitation sets exactly how I want to, but if I had an unlimited of amount of any piece that I wanted then things would be different... Tordenskjold Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Hmm. if that miracle happens that pirates came back next year ill better start sacing money now. Because i want all of it. Mine, MIne,MINe,all MINE :-D :-D got a mail from TLC and the girl that answered me sayd that "you never know, favourite/popular themes could be launch with again, with some difference in how they look" (not word by word. byt that was the meaning. got the mail in norwegian and have to translate it, and as you already have seen, my english id BAD :-$ Imagine Phes, if we could borrow the factory for some days, and make our own sets X-D Quote

It could have been an old lady. But anyway, that's The LEGO Company's stock standard answer when asked if a particular theme will return - its not very helpful information. Imagine Phes, if we could borrow the factory for some days, and make our own sets X-D Yes, The LEGO Company would actually start making lots of money from its new cash cow - a pirate theme designed by those who care about it... :-D Quote

Captain Roger Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I agree with phes in his first post of that topic but i thing the principal reason because LEGO cancelled our favourite Lego theme is really simple: They thought things like Star Wars and his bizarre creations of later 90s(X-Treme, aquazone, rock raiders, etc) look more fashionable than the classic pirates. MOCing is very frustrating because I don't always have the pieces I want to use so I can't make my imitation sets exactly how I want to, but if I had an unlimited of amount of any piece that I wanted then things would be different... yes its good of you to mention this, i find im often strained for pieces aswell. My solution may be a bit crazy but it was basically to buy 2006 new elements for $381 US $441 Can in hopes that it would suffice my lego needs for at least 3 years. Now the question i have to ask myself is why even buy sets? Isn't buying in bulk generally better as long as your seller has a good feedback profile and you are satisfied with the store policy? another item i've been mulling over was the idea of letting mocer's make lego designs. The way i see it is they really dont need to pay a team of crack designers to build their models, when theres a whole bunch of Afols who would be willing to share their designs for free just to have the honor of seeing them put on shelves. I predict that in 3 months you will be looking hungrily at another Bricklink purchase. You can never have enough parts. Once a MOC is started, you have several stages where you realize you don't have JUST the right part, or the right quantity of a part. If you bought enough elements for the next 3 years then I'll eat my bionicle parts bin! What you've really done is enter a slippery (but very fun) slope which rapidly ends up in a regular cycle of purchasing. Enjoy, and don't sweat the money - what's life for? :-) Quote
john cleese Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 no gylman you seem to misunderstand, this is a single birthday gift from 4 different people compiling some B-day money together along with $100 of my own money. All i was saying was that i really can't see what the point in buying sets is when you can get exactly what you want for a project by buying in bulk. Also a new SES is the same price as this order so i still dont see a point in buying sets unless they are from Ebay where lego is sometimes undervalued. And I meant that this (along with my other lego) will suffice my needs for atleast 3 years, i imagine after 3 years i will start on some huge moc and lack certain pieces to complete it and when that time comes i'll buy more on the next closest special occasion on which gift giving is appropriate. But imagine if they didnt say that just to pretent to care. would be nice if the next lego catalog show a pirate attack on a BIG spanish gallion or fortress *sweet* :-D but im afraid you might be right. that lego pirates hase passed away for good. :-( Quote
