Tijn Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Hi all, i decided to share my wip, hoping you would like to help out by giving tips and feedback. I have been wanting to build a larger MF for a while now, but i think the ucs version is too big, too expensive and i never liked the cockpit. So i decided to do a version roughly 1,5 times the size of the regular minifig version, and it should be the force awakens version with the rectangular dish. Currently i am doing seperate components to get the sizes right and to make sure i use a scale that will still allow for an interior. Some pics in my album: Quote
Artemis78 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) Not really much to say because there isn't a lot of constructed stuff but good luck. What you've made so far looks good ! Just one thing for the cockpit, could you try to make room for 2 more minifig in the back, by removing some stuff in the grey part ? Edited November 12, 2015 by Artemis78 Quote
Terrasher Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 This is going to look great. Just by taking a look at the SNOT circle where the turret goes, I can expect this to be beautifully built. Quote
FTG Prime Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Looks Great thus far i'm also doing mine :). Hope to see more photos of yours soon ! Quote
Smitty500 Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 This looks oddly similar to Mike Psaikis Version he built, not sure if its deliberate or pure coincadence. though he never finished his, I would love to see how this turns out. you have a good start so far. I only have the 2010 version, and never really experimented with any other kind of structure support so I cannot offer too much advice. I am an avid fan of the Falcon, and will try and help with the aestetic appearance of it. Keep it up, I am looking forward to it being finished. Quote
jamie75 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 So far so good. Can't wait to see more. Keep us updated. Jamie Quote
Tijn Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) This looks oddly similar to Mike Psaikis Version he built, not sure if its deliberate or pure coincadence. You're right, i credited his version as well as kid bricksto's in the flickr comments, but i should have done so here as well. I loved mike's version, but i wanted to do the mandible holes with the 6 wide arch pieces. The downside being you have to make the mandibles a bit too long, but only slightly. Does anyone have any thoughts on the docking rings? I like the smooth look of the 4x4 macaroni pieces on mike's version, but it should have a tapered shape, so i used wedge plates on a hinge. Kristof Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I'm not sure where did Mike use macaroni pieces but check this, looking good enough in my opinion. To be said though that on real Falcon, these rings are actually only slightly coned, very slightly, so making them 'barellwise' isn't that big oddity and I think you could go for it. Anyway, I'm glad you are attempting for this model, I was huge fan of Mike's try, though very disapointed of not seing the finished product. I thought about re-creating that myself but so far I feel somehow shy to start such project :) Good luck with yours, hopefully being another inspiration for myself! Quote
