"It sounds like you have a lot of experience with demons, Monk. Though I don't think I'll need your help with an exorcism if this one-" she jabbed her thumb towards Calamity. "Manages to summon something bigger than an imp."

"Exorcisms are dumb. It's like the least efficient way to get rid of a demon."

That's how those demon summoners usually work."

"Usually." Calamity rolls her eyes.

Gabriel is about to respond when Lind takes out his shovel, and digs finding five gold buried in the dirt.

Lind drops the gold into his Bag of Holding.

"No, not nearly as much. Albatross is just pricy as hell. That, and I don't really mind playing the piano. Always kind of liked music.

Besides, I have to do something between getting contracts and paying you home visits, don't I?"

"You two have the strangest relationship I've ever seen..."

Gabriel chuckles, and begins to walk forward slowly.

"Good bye, Garson. Heroes, you ready to go?"

"Ready."

The black knight nodded to Garson. "Nice chatting with you."

"Exorcisms are dumb. It's like the least efficient way to get rid of a demon."

"For someone that doesn't worship dark powers, you sure know a lot about them..."

"You don't worship nonsense, yet you seem to know a lot about it. Actually, that would explain a lot."

"In fact, they do."

"You wouldn't happen to know of a place where I can find an item or blacksmith can put that immunity into a different artifact, would you?"

Not having used my most Magical Shovel in a while, I overturn some dirt while waiting for Garson's reply.

"I'm right behind you," I call to the party.

"You could just embue a Ruby into whatever gear it is, unless you want to absorb health from it as well. As gems go, they're pretty common. Heck, even I have one.."

"Unfortunately, no, holy man, these were hand-me-downs."

Similarly, Pretzel unearths six gold.

The paths in front of them diverge, and Garson and the party head seperate ways.

"Safe travels!"

"...What a bizzare man. I know I'm hardly one to talk, but... Whatever. We're about to get to one of the trickier bits of this journey."

The party approaches a towering series of ridges on the side of the mountain.

"The artisans' cottage is just up here. We can take the long way and get the gift for my borthers twnty-eigth birthday, or we can go this way and get it just in time for his twenty-seventh."

Cliff Hangers: Ascending The Ridges

-Each hero has a combined strength/weight stat and a number of moves they can perform, based on how highly levelled they are.

Jinnipher:

Strength/Weight: 11

Moves Availible: 2

Monk Pretzel:

Moves Availible: 3

Calamity:

Lind:

Strength/Weight: 22

Moves Availible: 3

Gabriel:

Strength/Weight: 30

Moves Availible: 3

-A move can consist of boosting a hero up to one ridge (if the two heroes are on the same level) or pulling that hero up from one ledge above. Only the booster/puller loses a move; the hero being transported doesn't lose any of their moves.

-When boosting, the person boosting the other hero up must have a higher strength than the other person's weight.

-When pulling up, the person pulling the other hero up must have a higher strength than the other person's weight. Two heroes can combine their strength (the sum of the heroes' strength stat) to pull a hero up to their current level, but it'll cost both pullers a move.

-All five heroes start on the first ridge (Level 0). Using the number of moves given, the heroes must ascend to the top of the ridge (Level 2).

-Answers should be posted as a sequence of who boosts/pulls each other, until all five heroes are at the top.

Lind squinted up at the towering cliffs.

"You know, there's nothing really wrong with a twenty-eighth birthday gift...

But, let's see here..."

He scribbled a few thoughts on a piece of paper, and handed them to Gabriel.

"This look like it might work?"

"You don't worship nonsense, yet you seem to know a lot about it. Actually, that would explain a lot."

Jinnipher giggled, covering her mouth with her fingertips.

She looked to the top of the ridge, then shrugged. She followed Lind's plan, making sure to step on his head each time he boosted her up.

He grinned.

"I guess you can't solve every problem just by kicking it, eh?"

She followed Lind's plan, making sure to step on his head each time he boosted her up.

Lind returned the favor by 'accidentally' slipping every time she stepped on his head, causing her to tilt dangerously from side to side.

"Oops, sorry about that, but you're kind of heavy..."

"Oh can't I?" Jinnipher muttered as she clambered up the last ridge, she swung her boot back to hit Lind in the face. "Oops, silly me. I should have been more careful of your big, empty head."

"Nope," he grinned, catching her foot in mid-swing, "You can't."

He continued holding her foot as he kept talking, forcing her to stand awkwardly on one leg

"You see, by trying to kick me there, you thought you had the advantage. But-" He wiggled her foot, causing her position to become even more precarious. "-But by simply grabbing it, I gain the complete advantage. Basic physics."

He set her foot back down and waited for Monk Pretzel to boost him up.

"Your logic is impeccable." Jinnipher stood tall on the ridge.

With the plan already laid out, I follow it ignoring the idle conversation.

Lind made a mock bow. "Thank you, m'lady." Edited by Lind Whisperer

"Thanks for the boost, Jinnipher. Do you have a nickname, something shorter?"

"I hope it's not Jinn or Jinni," I mutter.

"No, it's Princess Jenny. Or Princess. Or Jenny. It depends on how mad you are at her." Edited by Lind Whisperer

With Lind's plan, the group manages to hoist each other up the sides of the eldges, taking a shortcut and managing to reduce the length of their route signifcantly. Despite all of the thrashing, the party felt more experienced as a result.

"No, it's Princess Jenny. Or Princess. Or Jenny. It depends on how mad you are at her."

Yyu6Ryp.png

"I mean, if you want her to kick in the face, sure. Then again, that already happened."

"I hope it's not Jinn or Jinni," I mutter.

Yyu6Ryp.png

"Can't say I disagree. People used to call me Sandman, you know. Awful name, looking back."

"Thanks for the boost, Jinnipher. Do you have a nickname, something shorter?"

Yyu6Ryp.png

"That reminds me of something I wanted to ask. I'm guessing your name isn't really Calamity?"

"Just Jinnipher, hon."

Yyu6Ryp.png

"So I'm sugar and everyone else is hon." Gabriel smirks. "Got it."

The party, having made their ascent, continue forward, until a blockade of knights guard the way. They glower menacingly at the party, and Gabriel instinctively reaches for his handcannon, looking stern.

The black knight attempted to use Diplomacy, forgetting the small part where he was a Black Knight, and didn't have Diplomacy.

"So...what brings you fine gentlemen out this way?"

Jinnipher winks, but ones they encounter the knights her expression turns sour. "Move," she said to the knights.
