Posted November 15, 20159 yr Hi everybody. My current project is the construction of a fully functional 3s ropeway. Since a few days the main functions are working so I want to present you the actual point of work. At first some numbers and facts: - length: about 5 meters, in the end maybe 5,30 meters - number of gondolas: 4 - total length of rope: 22 meters - distance betwen the stations: 2,90 meters - number of masts: 1 - heigth of the mast: 78 cm - untill now approximately 10.000 bricks are used, in the end it will be around 27.000, I think - power supply by 3 RCX robots and 3 transformers - 16 motors are used (12x m-motor, 4x 9V-motor) - building time untill now: 14 1/2 months There are 3 big components/ bulidings: the valley station, the mountain station and the mast. The valley station has been built after the Gaislachkoglbahn in Sölden, Austria: http://www.myheimat....47,2444094.html It consists of about 3500 bricks. The valley-station is more compact and technically less complex than the mountain-station. It is based on 2 48x48 baseplates. It is powered by 4 m-motors and 2 9V-motors using 2 transformers and 1 RCX. Its technology illustrates the processes in normal operation: When the gondola enters the station the the gondola releases the pulling rope and gets slowed down by driving wheels. Then the gondola doors open automatically. The gondola drivs around the curve of the station, then the doors close, the gondola gets accelerated and the pulling rope is coupled into the trolley again. Here is a video of the valley-station working: The mountain-station is build mostly identical, but it has some additional features. The tension of the pulling rope is controlled here, by simply using a wight. Also the gondola storage takes place in this station. This process is full-auto, controlled by 2 RCX and driven by 4 m-motors. You can see it working in this video: Here is the mast, it is constructed after the mast of the 3s Kitzbühel: I have also deigned the whole Kitzbühel station-building in LDD and I´m looking foreward to build it in real in 1-2 years. The original one: and a rendering and some screenshots of my model: The station has a length of 2,70 meters and consists of about 20.000 bricks, including the ropeway system itself. One picture of the ropeway system of the mountain-station (the picture was made in may, so it isn´t the most current one...) During the last weeks I did many testdrives untill I was able to adjust the system that controlls the distance between the gondolas. Since a few days this system works pretty well and so the ropeway works perfect with all 4 gondolas. Here is the newest video: I hope you like my ropeway. This is just a short overview. If you want to see more pictures and videos, check out my youtube-channel https://www.youtube....3dTrMEnnlwQGbpw Also you an find pictures since the first day of construction here: http://www.doktor-br...lbahn/?pageNo=1 That´s it for the first, feel free to comment ;)
November 15, 20159 yr It's crazy. no... AMAZING! AWESOME! It is both 'and crazy' and 'amazing and awesome', so impressive!!!   Are you about half way or so? Edited November 15, 20159 yr by 2LegoOrNot2Lego...
November 15, 20159 yr Author Thanks! It is both 'and crazy' and 'amazing and awesome', so impressive!!!   Are you about half way or so? Difficult to say. The technical part is allmost complete. But I have to combine the normal operation and the garaging system. This will be quite difficult. The other missing part is the mountain and the building for the mountain-station... but that is easy buildung. Only getting all the bricks will take some time. I think 1-2 years. At the moment about 7500 bricks are missing. But all in all I would say that most of the work is done.
November 16, 20159 yr Wow that's awesome! I love it, make sure to keep us updated. For future reference it's best to put the actual video into the post instead of just a link. I'm assuming you don't know how, so when you click on the link to put the link in, change the protocol from https to http and surround it with at the start and at the end That way you get these instead: I can only post two in each post so I did the first two. November 16, 20159 yr Hey wow! I always loved ropeway contraption since I was a child and went skiing in the Alps with my parents and I thought of building one with lego many times. I even attempted back then but with childish approach and no real skills :D Now I already know such project is far beyond my resources and abilities. Great to see though that someone is capable of building such thing! It's amazing how perfectly it works. The only improvement I could see is making it longer so there is one more pillar on the path. But obviously room might be your enemy there. Otherwise it's flawless :) Good luck finishing it!
November 16, 20159 yr That's incredible! Insane ! I like the movement of the gondolas which are very realistic and their opening doors system Wondering how you did it, it seems you reproduced exactly the whole technical system. In the video I would put some Lego figures ;) Great great great!!!
November 17, 20159 yr Difficult to say. I assume you will not build an actual mountain... or am I wrong? Again such a great project and as written about, you are a patient builder, that is for sure! Excellent...and I am really looking forward to the finished project!
November 17, 20159 yr so cool..i immediately recognized the Gaislachkogl Bahn...as i go there already for 12 years now. This new Gondola has been built a few years ago.. it is lighted beautifully with LED during dark hours!
November 27, 20159 yr Author Thanks a lot! Building this ropeway and making it work perfect was a very stony way but I really wanted to reach this aim - and I finally did it. The mountain station building will take much money und I am afraid it could be not stable enough. The great grey roof will not, that is sure. I hope I can stabilize it. We will see when I have collected all the parts, in 1-2 years probably... The mountain itself will be build as it can bee seen on the pictures above. It is 18 bricks high and not massive, it has collumns and walls inside, to seperate the 5 modules and make it more stable. @LegoSjaak: That is cool, I would like to visit this ropeway, too. Do you have any pictures you could send to me? I think the building-work will take a long break now, i will collect the bricks for the mountain first, than I can build on. But some modifications will take place untill then, that is for sure ;) I will keep you updated.
February 1, 20169 yr Author I think it´s time for a great update: after rebuilding the gondola garage to make it run more smooth, I have reprogrammed the garaging system for a few times, in order of making it faster so that it takes the same time as the gondolas need for one drive around the system. This took much time and I had to reprogram the system for five times, untill the times fit together. Then I combined the 3 programs for each of the 3 robots and after adjusting everything carfully I can finally say: The ropeway works perfekt and fully automatic!!! The technical part of the projekt is almost comlpete now. When I start the system, the gondolas leave the garage and drive into the station. Then the normal driving procces starts, the gondolas run and the distances between them are adjustet automatically. After 7 minutes of running the ropeway goes into the garaging mode and all gondolas are garaged. The whole prosses takes about 12 minutes now and I just have to start everything at the begining. While the ropeway is working I do not have to do anything. The time of the whole running process can be programed between 5 and 29 minutes. Here is the video, sorry for the qualitiy... here are some pictures of the new gondola garage, in fact only the curve is new, but there were the problems before: And a video of the garage itself: I have also desinged working turnstiles for the mountain station. they will be controlled by a RCX and turn whenever the "toe"sensor in front of it is activated ;) The final setup, only the turnstiles themself will be visible, all the mechanic and robotic will be hidden inside the mountain. And a video of the prototype working: In the next view months I want to collect the missing bricks for the mountain - about 1300 at all. I hope you like the news, feel free to leave a comment :)
February 1, 20169 yr Yes I like the news...getting along pretty well...haha... You are really doing a great job!!! Personally I think the video's are little dark...just a thought...
February 1, 20169 yr Ah, now I get it, why the Mast has this distinctive shape. I always thought it to be halfway on the mountain, but now I see it being really next to the mountain station. Which totally makes more sense. :) Great setup and I am quite sad, that I won't be able to come to St. Augustin.
February 1, 20169 yr Author Thanks. Yes they are too dark. And I am verry sorry about it, but the lights in my room are not the best, as you see... Also the ropeway is at one end of the room, so the light comes only from one direction. That makes it difficult to film the garaging process. You are right, Marc. The mast is in front of the station and towers above the valley. That looks quite impressive on the real one. And I am also sad, it would have been nice to meet you. @ all: The ropeway will be displayed at "ABSolutSteinchen" in St. Augustin, Germany, from the 4th of June to the 5th of June 2016. Also my PistenBullys will be shown there. http://www.absolut-steinchen.de/
