[MOC] PF Volvo FH4 10x4 Heavy Tractor Unit

Let me show you another older MOC of mine. I'm also a big fan of Volvo trucks especially new FH4 and so I decided to make a five axle tractor unit. It had two driven and three steered axles. Tag axle was also a lift axle. It had simple gearbox with low and high speed. All of the PF elements were in the tower behind the cab. It had full suspension on all axles. But the front of the truck was too heavy so there was actually no suspension on the first axle.

I don't like fake engines so there isn't any :) As you can see I'm a technic purist.

Unfortunately it never got the right trailer because there wasn't enough bricks to make one.

I'm not a panel fan but I will have to start to use them more often due to weight problem with big models.

Unfortunately this truck was recycled last year so there will be no video. Sorry.

I, like the others, am not really a fan of the liftarm look, but even so it looks good I can see that you prefer the liftarm look so I'm not going to complain about it, it's what the builder likes so we'll take it

Your suspensions system could be improved but you managed to implement it which is impressive in itself. That trailer looks interesting too, it's a shame you weren't able to finish it but that's how it goes sometimes

The only negative for me is the doors and personally I think it looks more like a renault magnum truck. I can imagine your moc with a trailer, would make a great formula one style truck. She is a beauty and the yellow works very well.

I like that it uses 10x4 chassis, because it is not so common in LEGO models.

First of all, front axle could use hard yellow shock absorbers. Cab could be built differently, because all that holes from liftarms collides with smooth look of few areas of the cab.

How much was it able to pull?

Two XL provides anough torque for pulling furniture around. I see two M motors in the front of the frame, both were used for steering?

That z24 gear on the last axle didn't hit anything while driving?

ingenious application of the sleeper cab/auxilliary space for the motors. The lifting rear axle is a very nice touch.

I love these huge trucks. Not in looks, but in shear size and overall mass, it reminds me of a nicolas tractomas or something

This pic of chassis was one of the first versions. Final version was a bit different and improved. I would use yellow shock absorbers if I had any ;) I liked it that way with holes. This truck was made for one local exhibition and I didn't make any experiments with it because it was recycled very quickly. XL motors were both for driving, one M motor was for steering and one for gearbox. That z24 under pull axle had just enough ground clearance that didn't hit anything. After all this was an highway truck ;)

That is a big model, and it is logical to use motors on such model. Manual functions were to heavy to operate. Very impressive, it looks like you have used two 42009 sets for it
