antp Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I recently finished a mod started some time ago on the Maersk cargo ship (10241) I find the 1x2 containers much more at the right scale than the 2x4 bricks of the original set. However it is quite tiresome to make, and uses a lot of parts (for non-visible parts, I cheated a little and used 2x4 bricks) In term of colors, there is a little of everything. I tried to use mostly realistic colors (light & dark grey, white, dark tan, dark orange, sand green, ...) but I also used a little of all what I had. Some old grey in addition to the bluish grey, as that could be found for cheap on Bricklink. There is even some of the old maersk blue (the ship uses the new color) and some rare things like dark turquoise. Quote
sunhuntin Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 way kool. wonder how many of those containers have lego sets for the christmas season? Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Nice! Judging by the trains which pass through my area (which are loaded by ships in Los Angeles and then shipped across the US); it is rare to see all the containers being from the same company, so I think this mix of colors on your ship matches the real thing a lot better. dr_spock Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Nice mix of colors like the actual ship's load. Quote
Captain Dee Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 It definitely looks more accurately scaled this way, and the different colors are more realistic too. The mod is a simple concept but it really changes the look substantially. Good idea. Quote
littlebricker Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Oh this is really a big cool stuff. Definitely more to scale than my mini ship : ) Quote
Only Sinner Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 This is really nice looking, I thought about doing the exaxt same thing. I just need a place to display it. Quote
antp Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Thanks :) Indeed display space is a problem with that kind of sets. At least this one is narrow, it is easier than those with a big footprint both in width and depth. Quote
