DuckBricks Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I wonder (if there actually is a CMF series) if we will get all 13 regenerations off the bat plus 5 companions or monsters, or they'll split the doctors into 2 series... The ratio if they do all at once is a bit overwhelming, so as much as I want all of them right away, I don't see it happening. Perhaps an even split between doctors and companions+monsters.
BritishBrickFan Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 to be perfectly honest, the BBC's licencing model is more aimed at "NuWho" because they have more rights over the programme and characters than they did over the older series for example, the Daleks are not the trademark property of the BBC, they're actually "owned" by the estate of Terry Nation, but licenced out to the BBC on specific contract grounds (many rumours state that the BBC must use Daleks at least once per season of NuWho, otherwise they lose the rights!) but no-one with direct contact to the BBC's contracts will confirm or deny this rumour the BBC also has a bit of an issue with the older series of Doctor Who, dating back to the Hartnell years etc - most of the programming is not shown on BBC television now, BBC Worldwide have "sold" the broadcasting rights to other channels, so the BBC are reluctant to licence new products for older generation Who, because it's effectively licencing a product which is available via other broadcasters, which is why the NuWho merchandise is so heavy - they still show episodes from the revamped series on BBC3/BBC4 sometimes, so any Eccleston/Tennant/Smith merchandise is still "current" to them I'm not saying they won't consider a licence for a CMF line, but I doubt it would include older characters unless it was specifically tied to the Doctors themselves, and/or certain species which have returned like the Zygons or the Daleks/Cybermen because many Who characters were designed for a single story/episode, as opposed to being seen as a long-term character so some of our lesser-known "favourite" aliens have a limited shelf-life because they featured in one story only would children today, who really are the target market for Lego, really care about a Lego young Sarah Jane or a Lego William Hartnell? they would probably rather have a Judoon or a Sontaran figure instead, because most children will at least recognise those figures over older companions from the 60s/70s/80s and Doctors who aren't on "BBC" channels any more
lightningtiger Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 If this is true then a DW theme will be second to Star Wars in all the Lego themes. Aw, a CMF range eh ? I wonder which doctors will get the nod ?

Im still sceptical but seeing what LEGO accomplished with the Dimensions level pack, they do have an insigt in what Doctor Who is, so i will definately pay attention to what might be in store. The game was made in the UK by warner brothers, lego is made in Denmark by lego. So whatever the game achieved should not be automatically attributed to LEGO
lightningtiger Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 The good doctor is more popular now then even back in the 1980's even my 15 year old son is hooked, so I know we would buy everything DW. In fact if my old maths teacher is still alive he would buy the whole deal.......a Doctor Fan nut case - couldn't stop talking about it outside of maths or computers !

Only mentioned LEGO since thats the main logo on every Dimensions pack !
Steph 104th Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) Even though I know I'm going to be cursing in the middle of a toy store because I can't find the CMF Tom Baker. I am relieved that we might have a more cost effective way of collecting all the Doctors. Edited November 28, 2015 by Steph 104th
Ordinareo Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Please let this be true , please let this be true !
Felkin Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Please let this be true , please let this be true ! Ahem! I'm sure the BBC must be doing new deals with the holders of the rights of "classic Who" characters / creatures, though; they put K-9 in the Dimensions set. I've actually seen the contract between the BBC and the creators of K-9 (back when they wanted to make a K-9 TV show), and they agreed to part ways amicably; K-9 could have his own show so long as he didn't look like the classic character or reference Doctor Who (hence the new design), and Doctor Who retains the rights for classic K-9 to appear a handful of times on Doctor Who / Sarah Jane Adventures (hence why K-9 was usually absent on SJA), and the BBC agreed to not feature him in future merchandising. I'm not sure when that contract dates from (I was supposed to be working, not reading all the legal files), but if they managed to make a new deal to put K-9 in Dimensions, hopefully it's a good sign that the BBC sees the value of the old characters, and we might see other classic characters / monsters in Lego form!
Captain Nemo Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 This is really just hearsay, and a whole lot of wishful thinking on our part. For that I'm going to lock this thread for now; and reopen it later if/when this turns out to be true. Until that time, please direct discussion of Who sets to the Ideas set discussion and the Who wish list thread.
