Looks to me like he is using the LiPo battery pack (the small charging hole on the left of the photo) so no need to remove the battery itself. I found having a second tender is a nice bonus to have the train running all the time (one charging while the other is running).

Farmer Harv: nice idea to use the boat bottom plate for the connection.
