January 11, 20169 yr Being a hot rod guy I couldn't help but sneak a peek. Nice V10 there, mate, this rod has potential. Needs some minor tweaks and will be great! V10 begs for some crazy exhaust manifold. It looks like hotrod is instant choice for B model . Story of my life 42000 - turned into Hot Rod C-model. 42024 - turned into Hot Rod C-model. Just got 42050 - already thinking about turning it into Hot Rod C-model.
January 11, 20169 yr Wow, I feel honored . I'll do it as fast as I can, even though that render will probably make mine look puny next to Jurgen's Sorry it took so long, but I finally finished the comparison image showing both your telehandler and Jurgen Krooshoop's much larger version of a (different) Manitou telehandler.
January 11, 20169 yr This will be a hard challange, so many good models! I love your entry, very inspiring part usage. To the B model: while it looks good, have You considered to stay in agricultural range, and do something like this?
January 11, 20169 yr The telehandler is awesome, and the hotrod looks cool too from the side, but I think you should make the cabin much wider.
January 11, 20169 yr Author Sorry it took so long, but I finally finished the comparison image showing both your telehandler and Jurgen Krooshoop's much larger version of a (different) Manitou telehandler. Thank you for the render Blakbird, they look amazing together. It really shows what a beast Jurgen's Manitou is. I also really like how it brings out the similarities and differences. To the B model: while it looks good, have You considered to stay in agricultural range, and do something like this? I want to avoid staying in the same range because I like sets where a and b models are completely different machines. Plus, I think it's more challenging and fun this way. The telehandler is awesome, and the hotrod looks cool too from the side, but I think you should make the cabin much wider. Yeah, I'm aware that it should a bit wider & shorter, but that's a bit of a problem for me. Most of the liftarms that are available are either long (13-15) or short (7-5). I have very limited medium length ones, and this is the main reason building 2 studs wider is very tough. But it's still a WIP, I can probably shorten it 2 studs without much problem. I'll try widening it when rebuilding with parts from the a-model.
January 11, 20169 yr I admit, good points, it is nice to take a look behind the scenes (what ideas are behind certain designs).
January 18, 20169 yr Author Time for an update (a minor one, but still) Last weekend I took the final photos & videos of the Manitou and dismantled it. Then I built the hot road using the original pieces, and some modifications. Overall, I think it looks more proportionate than the first version. - Widened the rear part of the cabin by two studs, so the sides are slightly angled for a better 'hot rod' look. - Reduced overall length by one stud. - Added some detail to the engine - Widened the rear axle by 2 studs. This gave the rear end a bit wider look and created a slight illusion of wide rear tires. But I'm not too fond of the tires popping out too much out of the mudguards, I think I'll narrow it down by one stud. Another reason I'm posting this update is that I finally tried the new backdrop (read: curtain fabric) and I want to get your opinion on it. I think the new one allows for a broader range of contrast, resulting in crisper pictures. Enough talk. Let's get to the pictures. I was planning on taking more, but my camera's battery died, so these two will have to do for now. What's better than a big air filter on a mean engine? Two big air filters of course! A proper V10 needs to suck a lot of air to keep its foes in the dust. I've always liked naturally aspirated engines over turbo ones, mainly because of the E39 M5. January 19, 20169 yr That looks awesome. The engine details give it a nice touch and also seeing everything in the "final" colouring makes it look a lot better. With the big front wheels it reminds me a bit of this one (from the ZZ Top music video for "I gotsta get paid"):
January 25, 20169 yr beautiful pair of models.... though I would like to have seen 4WS on the manitou - but maybe thats something for me to try with your model

With the big front wheels it reminds me a bit of this one (from the ZZ Top music video for "I gotsta get paid"): Yeah, that's the style I was going for. Also this, this, and this. This is excellent I would say... Wow, great looking b model! I really like how the engine is made. nice clean lines!! Thank you for your comments. beautiful pair of models.... though I would like to have seen 4WS on the manitou - but maybe thats something for me to try with your model I never attempted it because it would either require me to increase the overall length, or decrease cabin length, both of which mess with the scale. I want to create instructions for both models if I can, maybe you can try after that. I'd be interested in the result.
January 27, 20169 yr Author I finished the B-model, took photos&videos and dismantled it to build the manitou again. Overall, I'm satisfied with the model. It's functions are a bit limited compared to the a-model, which makes it a proper B-model . For more photos, head over to flickr album, and here is the presentation video: Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo with the bounding box. I'll try to take one, after I finish shooting the a-model. Edited January 27, 20169 yr by erelender
January 31, 20169 yr Author It was a very busy week, so I only had today for the video of my a-model, and I've working on it almost all day, but it's finally complete, along with the final photos: And here's the video:
July 17, 20204 yr Hi zweihander, your Manitou ist great and it would exactly fit to my Fire Department Hooklift Truck. Have you made an instruction or do i have to build it with your pictures? Greetz, Chris
