After seeing PG5200's spirographs a couple of years ago and being completely blown away I knew I had to make my own. It was not until some months ago where I realised how it worked and set about making my own.

Mine has 6 speed gearboxes on each arm to increase the variations in patterns. Whilst the exterior looks similar internally mine is very different. You could say that it is 'upside down' compared to Pg's as his outputs for the gearboxes are where my inputs are if that makes sense.

I did two videos for it, one describing the functions and the other with it looking cool!

As seen in the video I have made various attachments for it, one to turn it into A5 size, and the other to create significantly different patterns. Thanks for watching!

So neat! I love the variety of designs your Technic spirographer has come up with. Such a diverse range (in fact, probably more diverse than what I've created with my old fashion spirograph set). Well done!

Very cool mate  It's one of those interesting mechanisms that work so smoothly and create a great looking result. Good job! :classic:

Cheers! I was suprised myself at how easily it worked

Thanks! I might have to make some for Eurobrickers

Cool build - well done.

Are you planning instructions?

Yes I am, but only an LDD file for now. Might get me into CAD.

Excellent model, not so simple, but looks very clean. And teaser video touch me, i can't stop watching it)

Thanks and yes, I had a lot of fun making the teaser video. If you look closely to the left above the spirograph you can see a large sea snail/ sea star moving along at its slow pace!

Nice build you have there! I remember building PG52's V4 Spirograph and was very impressed with the results as well. The only thing I didn't like was the mechanism to hold the pen. There was an easier solution using rubber axle connectors and a 6.5L shock absorber. I also think that the bed can be made with part 367 or 8x16 tiles because the beams created ridges that sometimes caused the pen to go off path.

Excellent! Now I'd like to visit Australia in this season :)

Definitely, the day I shot the teaser it was perfect!

But can it handle 1 ball per second?! ;)

Not this one! I'll need to divert my attention from this and build some more modules!

Yeah ! noticed that as well. However an easier way to overcome this is to just fold an A4 sheet of paper into quarters, that way it is nice and thick and provides a cushion to the top most 'canvas'

I am somehow fascinated by theese machines... :D

Would it be possible to show us the internals of the garbox?

I realised after I shot the video that I didn't include the all important belly shot! Will get around to it

Great work! Awesome machine. I would love to view the LDD file and maybe try to build this some day.

Thanks! I'll start work on the LDD later today maybe

Awesome work! I'm glad PG52's very polished solution did not discouraged you from having a go at your own implementation. The results show that it was definitely worth it!

Thank you! I do love all of your mechanism as well!

Anyway after a night of work here is the progress on the LDD file:

The LDD file is now finished and is now pending approval on Rebrickable. The only part that is required that isn't listed is your choice of battery box, pen and paper. What I do is fold on A4 sheet into quarters then just place that on the bed, that way it provides a nice cushion for the pen. I use a staedtler triplus fineliner which in my opinion creates excellent results. Anyway enjoy!

Thanks for the instructions - it was a challenging build, but worth it.

A fun creation

OMR

Glad you liked it! These a perfect for the festive season, especially to make cards. The next step is to make instructions for the additional attachments and larger board

These would be helpful - I was planning on catching you @ BV & take some photos of the attachments - I shall be there as part of the GBC & SydLug teams

What an awesome weekend! I displayed the spirograph at the annual Brickvention in Melbourne, Australia. It completed over 200 prints for the kids (and adults) to take home. Someone though gave me a new idea for an attachment and I whipped it up this morning. What I have done is added another turntable (to the boards one) that is offset and rotates independently. This causes the boards central point to continuously change. It is now capable of some much more complicated drawings. Anyway here are some photos:
