Gremer Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) What would you guys consider to be the best (and worst) Star Wars sets from each year? I don't own any sets pre-2010, but I'd love to see your opinions. Edited December 7, 2015 by Gremer Quote
Darth_Brick360 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Even though I really liked the clone wars and collected most of the sets, there were a lot of them that I thought were really bad and I only bought for the minifigures. The first one that comes to mind is the sith night speeder. I bought this one completely because it came with characters I liked in the show and did not have yet (The newer version of anakin at that point. I had the previous version). Quote
bootz Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 The original Y-wing and TIE Advanced will always stand out to me. It was my first set and I still remember the day I got it, my dad took me to KB Toys at the mall and I was thrilled to finally have a Star Wars set, having been a huge fan of the OT and Kenner figures. Do you guys remember how we had to represent Star Wars characters before the line came out? I actually feel lucky that it came out when I was young and could fully enjoy it. The Batman sets didn't come out until I was in my dark ages, I'd have gone crazy for them when I was young(and just think of a TLG Batman line based on The Animated Series!) Quote
lowlead Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I would have to say that, for me, the UCS sets are the ones that stand the test of time - and even here there are exceptions. Aside from UCS stuff, here are a few that come to mind as gems: 8001 Battle Droid As much as I can't stand the PT, this set is still intact in a storage bin...somewhere. I always thought the model looked very accurate to the movie version - weak and skeletal - and the functions worked really well. 8002 Destroyer Droid Basically for the same reason as 8001 4483 AT-AT I think I built 5 of these damn things...cuz, you know, I had to re-create the Hoth scene! Some would argue that this is still the best AT-AT out of Billund. I find it a bit bulky, and I have no problem with the newer versions - but you know what they say about your first... 7662 Trade Federation MTT Another memorable build coming from the PT, arguably one of the best re-makes. 7680 The Twilight Perhaps the most dynamic, and appealing set of the 2008...ech, sorry, just seeing if you were paying attention. 8038 The Battle of Endor This set has everything - great figs, cool play features on bunker, and best looking chicken walker to date. 10195 Republic Dropship with AT-OT Walker Whoa! Yet another PT set I always liked - didn't see this coming back in '09. Two sets in one, really, and a bold move on TLGs part if you ask me. Dropship has brilliant design, looks amazing. This set remains intact in my collection. 10198 Tantive IV Perhaps the best looking 'ship-as-playset' design of its time, and a more accurate representation of the RBR...hmm, 2009 was a great year! I'll stop there since 2010 seems like the period you no longer consider a 'yesteryear.' Quote
James Wellington Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I have a lot of sets that stood and still stand out for me. The.. was it... 2001 Snowspeeder? 7130. That's still in tact and one of my oldest lego star wars sets. Also, the first TIE Fighter ever made. I don't have it, but I've looked at pictures of it for years now, I think I'll try to get a deal on ebay/bricklink for it someday. Quote
hallonsylt Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Like lowlead said, many UCS-sets take the price. Aside from that I'd say 2008: 7679 Republic Fighter Tank :) Edit: Got to sneak in my disappointment that there is no rly good Vulture Droid(starfigther) any year :( Edited December 7, 2015 by hallonsylt Quote
jhaelego Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 The 7163 Republic Gunship was the set that made me fall in love with Lego Star Wars(even though I never owned it). Since then, 10030 ISD has become my favorite set of all time. Quote
firefox Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Difficult question especially for 2013 which was an awsome star wars year, i'll star with 2010 because i don't have any sets older then that year 2010 - 8095 General grievous starfighter 2011 - 7964 Republic Frigate 2012 - 9497 Republic striker class star fighter 2013 - tie between 75003 A wing & 75018 jek-14's steath starfighter 2014 - Tie between 66512 Ghost + Phantom & 75051 Jedi scout fighter 2015 - 75102 Poe's X-wing 2016 - ???? Gremer Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) For me personally (don't know why I didn't put this in the OP): 2010 - Clone Turbo Tank 2011 - 7959 Geonosian Starfighter 2012 - 9498 Saesee Tiin's Jedi Starfighter 2013 - 75021 Republic Gunship 2014 - Sandcrawler (thanks Something-Awesome!) 2015 - 75060 Slave I, but the AAT, Flash Speeder, and Sith Infiltrator are also great. Reputator Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 The original X-Wing. This. It was the one that started it all, not just for the line but also for me personally. Still holds up amazingly well for its age too, I think. Quote
Junior Shark Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 This. It was the one that started it all, not just for the line but also for me personally. Still holds up amazingly well for its age too, I think. No way! Not only was it my first Star Wars set, but it was also my first Lego set too! I remember getting this set then being taken downstairs by my dad so we could watch Episode IV while building. Finished just in time to swoosh it to the trench run scene . On a side note, I feel like Poe Dameron's X-Wing is sort of the spiritual successor to this set... X-Wing, two pilots, maintenance worker, personnel sled... similar, no? Quote
HawkLord Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 From when I officially started collected in 2009. 2009 - 7749 Echo Base / Honorable mention - 8038 Battle of Endor 2010 - 8089 Hoth Wampa Cave / Honorable mention - 8092 Luke's Landspeeder 2011 - 7965 Millennium Falcon / Honorable mention - 7879 Hoth Echo Base 2012 - 9516 Jabba's Palace / Honorable mention - 9489 Rebel Trooper and Imperial Trooper battlepack 2013 - 10236 Ewok Village / Honorable mention - 75005 Rancor Pit 2014 - 75052 Mos Eisley Cantina / Honorable mention - 75045 AT-AT 2015 - 75060 Slave 1 / Honorable mention - 75094 Imperial Shuttle Quote

Junior Shark Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Exactly. Is there something I should know? Am I legitly right about the similarities? Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 This. It was the one that started it all, not just for the line but also for me personally. Still holds up amazingly well for its age too, I think. Amen. It is kind of ugly by the standards of today, but it still holds out very well. It is still my only Lego X-Wing, and when I finally get around to getting a new one I'll just call this old one a Z-95 with split wings and a droid socket, I'm not going to let it fall to disrepair! Still works. P.S. it was also my first or second Lego set to, so nostalgia! Quote
Something_Awesome Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Really surprised that the UCS Sandcrawler of 2014 has not gotten any love. Difficult to say which sets were the best of their respective years but the UCS Sandcrawler is easily one of the best sets, if not the best, of any line in 2014. The set is loaded with charm. Quote

duboismerci Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I would say my 7130 Snowspeeder 7140 X-Wing 7150 Tie fighter & Y-Wing All from 1999. Remember when I got them for my birthday and a couples months later for xmas. Only set pre 2013 (when I came out of my dark age) that I had. They are still displayed in my collection and I don't think I will ever replace the X-wing and Y-wing because the newer version are too big and too expensive and aren't that much better according to me. I bought the new snowspeeder but I will still display the older one next to it as a reminder of how the line as evolved... Quote
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I'm going to give props to the UCS Naboo Starfighter, which was a 2002 set (I think). The chrome pieces are gorgeous, and the set is pretty much minifigure scale. The one thing I hate is that it wasn't minifig compatible despite being the right size, but I just went and modified mine to fit a figure. I wish my stickers hadn't all peeled off. Quote
Junior Shark Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 P.S. it was also my first or second Lego set to, so nostalgia! Awwwww yeahhh! Quote
FTG Prime Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 The 9493 X-wing is a really good set too Quote
ArrowBricks Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 From when I began collecting in 2008. First sets are what I own that was best. Second set is what I don't own but I thought it was really good. 2008: At-te Walker and Spider Droid. Death star is always a favourite. 2009: Battle Of Endor. Republic Dropship. 2010: Clone Turbo Tank. 2011:Millenium Falcon and Frigate. Super Star Destroyer. 2012:Tie Fighter, Palpatine's Arrest, and Jabba's Palace. 2013: Only spent minority of money that year however, I think it was the best with the At-te Walker, and the Ewok Village. 2014:Again only spent certain amount. Mos Eisley Cantina, Star Destroyer, and the ghost are my favourites that I do not own. 2015:Don not own any of these sets. Force Awakens sets were quite strong with Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle, and First Order Transporter the best. I look forward to seeing if there will be any certain favourites for this year 2016. Quote

It's too expensive to be considered the best set. i did take price into consideration along with build, play value, minifigs and design Quote
