bjorn77 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I have the last three Winter Village sets and I am considering purchasing the 10229 Cottage too. At €150, it is actually not more expensive than your average Star Wars set, if you only consider price/piece count. Would you say it's worth the money? It does look like a really good set... Quote
Withacee Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Well, at 1,490 pieces, it's a lot more expensive per part than the average modular (at 2,400 to 2,700 parts for roughly the same price), but it might be the cheapest option. Depending on where you live, bricklinking it might prove to be even more expensive. It's a lovely set (I must say, we replaced all medium blue parts with tan), but it's a lot bigger than the other WV sets, so some people say it sticks out too much. We love it, and it's in our WV diorama every year. We just put it in the back, at a corner. Looks great. Quote
Gongoro73 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 It's a must have. One of the most beautiful buildings Lego has ever created, IMHO. Quote
Nacho Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 What worries me is if they do another re-release next year and you could end up with a brand new one for £60... Quote
LegoFjotten Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) What worries me is if they do another re-release next year and you could end up with a brand new one for £60... I think chances are extremely low that there will be another re-release next year. I recently attended a presentation with Jaime Berard, and in the Q&A at the end one thing he was asked about was this years winter village re-release. In short (as to the best of my recollection): 1) They had an extremely busy period, and decided something had to give 2) The toy shop was a highly requested item to re-release, and a re-release was deemed a better option than taking a break from the winter village for one year (since it was the first in the series and a lot of people missed out on it, not realising it would be a full series of sets) 3) The small updates were due to customer feedback/complaint on the original set 4) They knew people who already owned all the sets would be disappointed, but that the ones who missed out would be very happy - but sometimes you can't please everyone He was not able to comment on future sets (no surprise!), but talked a bit in general about how they planned their different product lines, and I was left feeling pretty sure that we will see a new winter village set next year. Andy D Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 The WV Cottage is the only WV set I am not using this year. In fact I think it is going into the parts bin. Reason: it is just too large compared to the other buildings. I purchased plans for kristel's WV Cafe which I am using in place of the Cottage. IMHO there are a lot of MOCs from the previous year's EB WV contest that fit into the WV better than the Cottage. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D Quote

If that's true, these are best news I could have hope for. Quote
Amset-Rah Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I've been contemplating this myself since this was the one WV set I wouldn't mind getting (Aside from Santa's Workshop) since it's rare to get a full house in Lego outside of the Creator line and I personally love all the little details and builds. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I would recommend the set. It is quite nice, although I agree, rather large. I rebuilt mine in tan, but looking at it vs pictures of the original, I think I like the med blue better. But either way, I have it built and it sits on a shelf. At original MSRP, it was a good price/piece. So off topic, LEGO actually admitted they were rushed and re-released something? That is surprising. I thought we would always be in the dark about it. sunhuntin Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 i would get it if you have the cash to spare. like others have said, its way bigger than the other WV pieces, so it can stick out like a sore thumb. i set up my display the other day and during the year bought 3 of the creator seasons house. i built all 3 different designs and used those with the cottage to create a residential area. must say, it fits in nicely with those, and having a reasonable gap between the WV cottage and the first toy shop helps everything blend together. this is the best photo i have right now. will be getting more tomorrow, but they wont be uploaded for a few days. the brown building seen by the cottage is not lego. it came with the train set.
