The new system will take time like any new system it will have bugs just look at any new video game. I've only had minor issues and I've been into lego since the 80's. I have some prints on the head wipe off on a cmf before and once in a while have a problem with a brick. I don't think the quality is bad by any means. Also haven't they gone to the plant based plastic so that will also affect things since they are not fully plastic anymore. What are you talking about the website not functioning for 30 years am i missing something because it works fine. It's more the constant concern of the website crashing on release day since so many people overload the site. It works fine most of the time, until there is a sudden rush from all over the world and then you have to queue or wait or get locked out...can be frustrating. But I don't usually need anything on release day, so it hasn't affected my life any. As for COVID related stock issues. Since they have to pull pick a brick and bricks and pieces by hand, I'm sure that takes a while to locate the pieces and hand pick them and then weigh/measure the proper amount and make sure it gets packaged properly. So definitely it will take time to get back up to typical speed, especially the 11-15 days they are quoting (once they get back to square one). But since there is no shortage of people ordering, it will take even longer to get caught up. They'd have to be willing to close it down for longer than they did and lose out on potential money just to get caught up. Which is more angering, waiting a month for parts while others can order and wait for their parts, or them closing down for a month (or longer) and then upon reopening having a sudden rush of people trying to order again... Live service? Stand alone titles? You have to be more specific. Also E-commerce sites have way less moving parts than video games. They don't need to account for rigging, animation, art resources, logic going wrong, dumb AI. The comparison is laughable, more so given that they Lego System is so well done, each part has an integer code, not only that but each colour has it's own code. This should be a stellar site, with a great process and ease of use, but it's not, because like every company, IT services are seen as a loss of revenue. A billion dollar company like TLG could *easily* find enthusiastic talent to boost the *already in house* team, of course they have a "tech" dept, but hell they could outsource it if they really wanted to, especially for apps like Hidden Side and Vidiyo. Game dev and Biz Dev are two wholly different fields, not to mention that Lego's site is basically just large stock database. They are one of the most beloved companies in the world, their issue is management of key growth areas. They are a global company trying to maintain a small, family style work environment, which causes bottlenecks in regards to growth. Quote

RichardGoring Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Here's a disappointing realization I've just made about the new system - I'm a bit slow at the moment, clearly. You get charged a service fee if you spend under $14 for bestseller elements or standard elements. Ok, fair enough, I can see how getting a single piece shipped is a pain for them. But now that it's all merged into 'one' system you can't choose to just buy from Bricks & Pieces. Previously I could get everything from Bricks and Pieces. Now I'm forced to split the order across the two, meaning it can be harder to hit the service fee thresholds. Quote

Murdoch17 Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) Back to topic, my B&P order from January 31st finally arrived on March 24th. (x6 of the bracket) Here is what I ordered and received. Sorry for no actual loot picture, as it's already been added into the bin containing all the other parts for a project. (I actually placed two B&P orders for this project, this being the second one. The other one was 200x of part 87087 in the same color as the ones above. I placed it in October and got them in late December) Edited March 26, 2022 by Murdoch17 Quote

Or is the fact that TLG are being opaque about where, when or how licensed pieces will be added back somehow not relevant? While B&P was in no way perfect, It's not realistic, or environmentally responsible, for TLG to suggest that the only way for serious fans to get their hands on new parts is to buy a bunch of sets, and that's before the sellers realise that they can ramp up their prices even more for scarce parts. I feel how the site is developed and run is on topic. Eurobricks is both a place for community *and* for information, and outside of Star Wars, the licensed sub covers everything else. "This is the discussion thread for licensed/rare/interesting parts that are available from Lego's Bricks and Pieces Service." A service which no longer exists and has changed to something else. Are we not allowed to discuss and constructively criticise the new site? I mean, the backlog means haul posts are scarce, and what pieces are available has been impacted by the new changes? Quote
Wenix Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Uhhh was too slow to order from the old site when it was still running and now it says 404 Page not found Quote
Clone OPatra Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 The discussion had veered into LEGO's business practices in general, and their website / tech development at large, nothing to do with the Bricks & Pieces service specifically. That's what made it off topic. Discussion of LEGO's quality control also isn't about B&P anymore but LEGO at large, and there are other topics for that in General. Anything about B&P itself and the tech of the new B&P site specifically is totally cool and on topic here. Quote
anothergol Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 (edited) Sadly with Lego hiding all new parts, what else is there to discuss about here anyway? ..until april let's hope Talking about new parts, I'm seeing one of these in light bluish grey on Bricklink. No sign of it on Brickset (& obviously not B&P) though. Has anyone spotted it in any upcoming set (DeLorean maybe?)? It's probably not a mistake as it's high priced, the seller knows what he's selling. Edited March 27, 2022 by anothergol Quote
Anonknee Muss Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 The muppets CMF series will reintroduce the teacup plate which has only ever been used in 1 other set - another CMF 4 years ago. This time they’re plain and I hope they eventually become available on B&P. I don’t want to buy 4 of the same minifigures especially ones I have no interest in. Quote

Yeah it's a great part, I've found myself needing it in blue recently. I believe the diameter fits pretty well the inside of the Brickheadz round glasses, for eye color. Quote

For me, dual moulding of legs is a huge deal and a massive step forwards for displaying figures in poses. If you like to display minifigures perfectly straight, all in a side-by-side row, all facing forwards then it doesn't matter too much what is on the sides or backs of the legs. But if you like to use minifigures that are posed in a scene then you see the sides and backs of the legs of some of them. Side printing addressed this a little bit but it still looks odd if a figure is wearing a garment on the front and sides but not over their backside. I tend to stay away from legs that are front printed but that don't work so well from behind, instead preferring plain unprinted legs or using a cape to cover the sides and back. The dual molding allows the colour to wrap around the whole figure so I'd go for unprinted but dual molded legs over front printed legs most of the time. Plus as soon as you pose the legs, the print usually does not line up anyway. Compare something like the Rogue from S16 with the Actor from S8. They have similar colour schemes for the legs but unless you cover up the backside, the actor one looks poor in comparison. You should see what the Chinese have done with the minifig. They've managed to give them bending knees and movable arms, while preserving the look. Sadly Lego will never touch their iconic minifig, and I can't blame them for not even daring. But still, posable minifigs are a reality and a real improvement (but the quality of plastic isn't there). Dual molding is great but it's not Lego's invention, and it seems quite common in toys now. Bugbot20082 Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 On B&P there is a printed 1x2 grey cheese slope with the print of the front window for the AT-AT micro-fighter I believe but for some reason it’s sorted under Minifigure hats and headgear, rather than slopes. Quote

Yes, lego didn't invent dual molding, but then the question wasn't who invented it. Their introduction of it improved minifigs for me, which was the question I was answering. They could go further and do completely posable miniatures but I think that would ruin them. Quote
