To increase the hype of the goat, as a publicity stunt since it say goats are for sale in the set, etc who knows how the PR people think There is a lot of buzz now about the goat and that is good advertising to sell more PAB parts, they still probably earn money on it even with that price. It is suspicious at least, for all the parts added to PAB in the last couple of years I believe only 3-4 have had a wrong (to cheap) price I fear it may be 10x the price when it comes back Quote

RichardGoring Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 It may be bad news for anyone who got goats through. Report on Reddit that the goats are being cancelled. They cancelled my goats! : r/lego (reddit.com) Quote Official LEGO Response On July 1st, along with other novelty elements, we were excited to make available one of the greatest LEGO® elements of all time, the LEGO goat (6490240) through the online Pick a Brick service. Unfortunately, a pricing error was identified with a select number of new elements including the LEGO goat. Approximately 30 minutes after launch, these elements were temporarily removed to investigate. At this point, the cause for the error has been identified and corrected, and the gray LEGO goat will return to Pick a Brick on July 3rd. In line with the terms and conditions of LEGO.com, all orders placed on July 1st, for the LEGO goat, have been or will be canceled. Which strikes me as kind of unfair really. Typically if a retailer screws up with their pricing they take the hit for better PR. And, as pointed out above, they're still probably making a profit at this level. Quote
Lord Sith Lego Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I just want two grey goats but having to compete with scalpers and people buying up hundreds of goat really sucks. Lego really need to add a limit on such elements so most people have a chance to buy them. Quote
Dennis-BB Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Expected it already, but hoped they sucked it up cause their own screw up. We, we will see what it costs now. Expect a ~5 euro. Quote

Is should be easy to predict 4 out of 5 bestseller parts and just move them to bestseller from the get go Lego did a mistake and they probably still earned money on it with that price so the few lucky ducks that got it "on sale" could have gotten their orders I think.. Will be interesting to see the price, if it is more than around the sheep price Lego is taking advantage of their fans.. Quote
RichardGoring Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Setting a limit can be hard though. You might have a legitimate reason for wanting loads. For instance - based on their own suggestion - I modified the bonsai tree to incorporate different elements for each season. Ordering 60 ducklings and 60 candy canes is crazy for most uses, but it's a build I really loved making. I'd really like three grey goats for my 'summer' tree, but tried to order five given the price. Will still likely get three when they come back. If they did do a limit, is that a household limit? Over what time period? They permanently limit you on set orders, which seems so silly. But don't seem to track GWPs, which are supposed to be one per household. I'd worry that they'd screw it up, so would prefer to just be patient and wait. Quote

Hoth Rebel Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I haven't gotten a cancellation email, but when I go to my orders on LEGO.com the invoice has changed. Also the goats are at zero instead of the ordered amount. IMO it's strange they cancel the goats ordered instead of just shipping them out and update the price to what they intended for newer orders (probably €6.50/$5.90 instead of €0.65/$0.59). Besides that is the fact if you want to order the goats tomorrow for whatever price they're up, you have to get to the €55 threshold for free shipping.. Which I would easily get with all the other new parts, but those are already ordered. Quote

I have no problem with people ordering lots of a product that will be of (effectively) unlimited supply, and it just means others have to wait. But to buy up lots of low volume products (for scalpers) or artificially inflate the price due to initial demand is pretty scummy behaviour, so I really hope they don't fall into this. About $2, like the sheep, would feel a lot fairer. Some of the dogs that are similar to the goat are about $2.50. Quote

My invoice changed to an even higher amount, removing the dozen goats (for a MOC, not for resale) made the order drop below the threshold for free shipping. If I have to pay MORE for an order and NOT have everything I ordered, then I will definitely have a bone to pick with LEGO! To echo another post, retailer price errors should be on them. Can’t wait to see what exorbitant price LEGO lists the goat this time. Many of us are on a fixed budget and do not appreciate the ever increasing cost of sets, and in this case individual pieces. Why does LEGO want to make it harder for us to enjoy this hobby? Wait, greedy corporate scalping of the consumer. And yes, I wish they would limit the amounts of the highly sought after items to give more people the opportunity to order an item so they are not always out of stock because of evil Bricklink scalpers who purchase hundreds at a time. eldiano Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 While focusing on the goat, here’s the most important question, did they also add the new wood door seen in that set or did it sell out also? Quote
BitByBrick Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 The purchase price for the goat, when initially listed, was $0.59. No idea how much they will increase it to. Probably someone missed a zero and it will be $5.90. If that is the case, us peasants / town-folk should march on LEGO with pitchforks and torches like in those old B&W Frankenstein movies. Quote

That's my prediction for what their cost will end up being. Sure, not all animals are priced that good (like the chicken), but I'm hoping they won't be much more expensive than about $3 each. $5.90 would be more expensive than the horses, dual-molded dog with vest, the turtles, dolphin, or Friends goat! The only animals in that price range is the new Ninjago dragon, the cow or the the adult polar bear. Yeah, Lego wants money, but surely they got their fill of goat cash from Minifig Series 25, right? rebelpilot Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 It's been my own theory for the past 6 months that Lego are pricing PAB animals as a prohibitive measure. Possibly in an effort to curb resellers. It obviously won't stop them completely but maybe they'll think twice about ordering 200 and only order 50, some what ensuring availability for more customers. As most of us are just regular PAB customers, the flow on effect is if we want 10 cows or seals but we log in and see the price and don't see the value in it, we think twice and order 3 instead. Again, ensuring at any given time more availability for more customers. We still get our turtles or whatever, they are being made available for sale to us, but we just get less. The fact that there is probably very high profit margins on such pieces is a secondary consideration and if it helps cover the costs of PAB and its expansion in recent times, in their minds, all the better. And better than at the expense of having prohibitive costs on 1x2 bricks etc. I see people complaining about the price of the white 6440114 chicken but it's not much more than the equally absurd dark orange 6319680 chicken. It just means I bought a couple, at half the cost, from bricklink sellers who actually part of sets and don't source from PAB. I also notice the newish 6470913 white bulldog with teal collar is approximately twice the price of the older near identical white bulldog with red collar which was already expensive to begin with. Lego's costs to produce, store and sell it haven't double but that just means I won't purchase it from them, and I doubt resellers will be ordering them in large quantities, generating less demand on an already stressed PAB system. The voice of sensible reason here. Sigh. I saw the bulldog price and assumed it was dual-moulded and so more expensive because of that, but didn't realize the other version was half the price. The white chicken was in BAM a couple of years ago, where you effectively get them for $0.67 each. So it's definitely not just production cost-based. Anyway, continuing the sensible tone, I'm still really glad PAB is an option. Quote

Dennis-BB Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 (edited) Fun thing though is they let the Mini Ninjago set go through on my order with only cancelled goats. So that is one less order to make to get my VIP rewards at home. Especially since I have to re-order the goats and take the other Mini Ninjago with it. Edited July 3, 2024 by Dennis-BB Quote
Dennis-BB Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 (edited) The goat is back online: 5.75 euro. LEGO, for real? Edited July 3, 2024 by Dennis-BB Quote
MKJoshA Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 To be fair, I paid 5 euro for each White goat (and got a free goat-herder minifigure to go with it). So while 5.75 for the Grey goat is comparable, it's still a crazy price for a single piece of plastic. Quote
BitByBrick Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 The goat is now listed for $5.94 US. Unnecessarily high. Nothing but greed. WOW! What a slap in the face for consumers. Be better LEGO, or at least TRY to be better. Guess it’s time to storm the castle? Let our frustrations be heard… bombard LEGO customer service with calls and messages saying this is NUTS! Quote
Dennis-BB Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Guess the number of grey goats will be less then I hope. Luckely I got plenty of white goats for 2.25 euro (incl the herder). Planned to give away some of those to friends, but now those goats will stay here.. Whites will outnumber grey. I ordered 20.. Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 That's why i never bought an animal from PAB (apart from the mouse). The prices for horses, cows and now the goat are insane! Quote
