Posted December 11, 20159 yr Mostly inspired by Jangbricks MOD with some ideas from MrLee. It's technically still a WIP, I may need to build a base for it to sit on. With it sitting on the little landing gear feet attached to the wings, it tends to pop off the pieces on the outside bottom part of the wings. I would also like to do more with the underside and add more greebling. There's so many extra plates to utilize. I welcome comments, constructive criticism and suggestions. I hope everyone likes the red windscreen, those are transparent red 1 x 2 bricks without tubes. Edited December 11, 20159 yr by JPN366
December 16, 20159 yr Author I have added a couple of things to the bottom and I eliminated the two inside pins that hold the wings upright. Now it's just one pin used on each of the removable parts.
December 18, 20159 yr Good work JPN366 I have seen the movie a couple of times now, and have decided that I will be completely redesigning the wings & mechanism of this one. Got the visual dictionary and vehicle cross sections books on the way too, so will be able to do some more research as well. Edited December 18, 20159 yr by MrLee
December 19, 20159 yr Author Good work JPN366 I have seen the movie a couple of times now, and have decided that I will be completely redesigning the wings & mechanism of this one. Got the visual dictionary and vehicle cross sections books on the way too, so will be able to do some more research as well. Thank you! Like I said, you definitely helped inspire my MOD. I look forward to seeing what you do with your redesign. I'm still trying to utilize all the extra pieces and plates. I've managed to find spots for the 2 x 4 smooth tiles that I didn't use from the lower flaps. I still have many plates left over. After almost a week on the shelf, it seems to be okay resting on the landing gear on the bottom of the wings. I highly recommend doing the windshield in all red, it "pops" more. I didn't have too much trouble finding the transparent red 1 x 2 bricks without tubes.
December 19, 20159 yr And Jangbricks just blew us all away with his MOD... Now that thing looks whay whay better and more evil then the origanal Lego version!!!!
December 21, 20159 yr Decided to try a quick and dirty mod myself, obviously not movie accurate, but shows you what you can do by just replacing the visible light grey pieces with dark grey.. Had a crack at redesigning the cockpit, again not movie accurate, but IMO looks much better than the original set's.. All up cost about $8 in dark grey parts plus one or two other pieces I had lying around.. Not anywhere near as good as Jangs, but nor is it anywhere near the price of fully swapping out all the pieces for black ones.. Edited December 21, 20159 yr by ptrg
December 21, 20159 yr Just goes to show that it doesn't take much to turn this set into a good one. However, to make a brilliant one it needs to be all black.
