Bregir Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Hrmmmmm, so I registered my Shanty as a "small residence" as the shanty itself had a 16x16 floor....but seems I should've counted my entire 32x32 island build as well.... Is that correct? The build can be larger than the license, no problem. But the license can't be bigger than the build. Therefore you *can* license the shanty as a 32x32, but you are not required to. Hope that makes sense. Quote
SkaForHire Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 What has been discussed is oriental culture comes from the far south of the main continent, but probably a little to the far west as well. Quote
MKJoshA Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I see Nivremis has done a nice build with an oriental theme and i was wondeirng about introducing some oriental pirates to one of my builds. Is there a geographical home for these guys in the game? Basically a Japan/China themed country in the Old World? Would that be 'The Mokelei Empire and Allied States'? I don't actually know, but I have a small junk coming up, and I was thinking they came from "The Far West" of the old world, parallel to the Far East in our world. Will be looking forward to others' thoughts on this. What has been discussed is oriental culture comes from the far south of the main continent, but probably a little to the far west as well. My pirates are Oriental in flavor and I've said they come from south of the main continent. ...a small license is any building smaller than 16 x 16, a medium license is between 16 x 16 and 32 x 32, and so on. However the base that the builds are on should show the licensed size (exception being licensing a larger build as a smaller build). I agree with this, though I would say a small license doesn't have to be smaller than 16x16. If you can't afford a medium property you can always license it as small and then get bigger. I know some builders who really focus on quality will build 50x50 "small" properties and then just get bigger with their next sizes. Quote
Maxim I Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Wow, last week was an explosion of ships!!! I needed 3 hours (!!!) for the update of the Ship Index! I think I added 20 ships to the index... So congratz everyone! BUT, as it is so time consuming, I have to excuse myself for not commenting on all the wonderfull builds that are posted in BOBS. To everyone who build a ship: please check the index (both ship index and faction index) and if there is a fault, please tell me!!! Quote
dr_spock Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Thanks for doing the index. Do you index both licensed and unlicensed ships? Maybe we should have a standard tag for ship builds like including SHIP in the title or tag. It might make it easier for you identify threads with ships. Quote

It would be great if it is like I did the Purple Rain: [ESL - FB 1 - Class 4T2] Purple Rain Quote
Bregir Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Definitely! It would be great if it is like I did the Purple Rain: [ESL - FB 1 - Class 4T2] Purple Rain Good job with the index, Maxim - I doubt any of us could have foreseen the amount of ships growing so fast here! I will try to do as you propose for my next vessels. Quote
Captain Dee Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Maxim, I realized you'd suddenly gone quiet and thought, "He must be indexing..." Good job with that index. I for one am not surprised by the number of ships considering the number of people involved by now. Quote

I for one am not surprised by the number of ships considering the number of people involved by now. Indeed, kudos to Maxim for all the hard work in indexing. Coincidentally i was browsing at BoBS Ship index today and i too thought that we have indeed MANY ships by now. Some better than others but we are definitely not lacking motivation and inspiration! Keep up the good work guys and girls! Also not to put pressure on Ska , but i am hooked up with the Sea of Storms newspaper and i am eagerly awaiting for this February's one to be published! Quote
Sir Stig Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Also not to put pressure on Ska , but i am hooked up with the Sea of Storms newspaper and i am eagerly awaiting for this February's one to be published! I am having problems containing my excitement for the results as well, but they have to gather information (roll a lot of dices), to find out what happened (make the stories to go with the results). Then making paper, printing, and distribution throughout the Brick seas. I wish someone could come up with a more efficient system. Pigeons? Klacks? Oracles?Although I am eager to know how it went, I prefer to read a quality paper. I'll be sitting at the docks, hoping every new ship carries news. Also, an update on the chart showing wealth and income. I wonder if they got the monopoly bonuses right this time. My calculations should give me 29 monthly income from properties (15dbs factory (with bonus), 4dbs residents, 5dbs commerce, 5dbs artisan). Quote
Bregir Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I am with you on this, Sir Stig. Quality over expediency, and as you say, there is a lot of work behind it! I am wondering if not the calculations of the result could be programmed in some way, for instance in a spreadsheet, to make it easier for the admins. But it is rather complicated... :/ But it is yet another testament to the quality of this game that everyone is sitting on the edge of their seats awaiting the results! ;) Quote
blackdeathgr Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Hey! Of course it's quality over speed every time! Of that we all agree! Quote
Bregir Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Noticing Captain Dee's comments on not approving bulds of ones own faction, might I put forward a suggestion? Since it will make it easier for all to manage, should we not relax the rule about approving same faction builds? I understand why it is done, to avoid conflicts of interest. But on the other hand, we are all gentlemen/ladies here, and I really doubt it will be a problem. Thoughts? Quote

But on the other hand, we are all gentlemen/ladies here, and I really doubt it will be a problem. Thoughts? It would definitely make the accounting easier considering the number of same-faction approvals that have been granted lately. It would also mean more DBs for many of you - my observation is that numerous builds have been just short of reaching the next tier on the charts, and more votes would often mean more DBs. BUT I also understand that it could give an advantage to the bigger factions, which are currently at a disadvantage with the approval process - perhaps an intended consequence to help level out big disparities in membership and the resulting level of activity. So I'm on the fence. Edited March 3, 2016 by Captain Dee Quote

Mates, you've signed a contract when joining this game and handed your souls over to the Brethren Court! So don't try to make new rules, this is all way too complicated already! Quote
Captain Dee Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Just to be clear, I'm not advocating to change anything... except people granting contraband approvals... Quote
Sir Stig Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I agree. The rule must stand, to upheld game balance. Still, there are so many builds I want to approve, and then realize (or not) that the builder is from eslandola, but I still want them to know I appreciate it, so I try to leave comments. Some I miss, because I intend to write a good enough comment that is understood as praise, and then I forget or it gets drowned in other posts. We need an icon that signalize approval but not to be counted. What is the least used icon? Quote

That is a good indicator if it is your faction or not. Having a text or graphic of your faction in your signature would be helpful to identify same faction approvers. Quote

Captain Dee Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Builders already put the faction short name in the title of their thread like [sR-FB1]. That is a good indicator if it is your faction or not. This helps, yes, but most people are giving some indication of where the build is located as well. I understand anyone can make a mistake and accidentally grant an approval, but reading the material and just paying attention helps a lot. Some builders are using phrases like "this is my third free build this month, so if you're not from [faction] then I'd appreciate your approval" which makes it easy for everyone while other people just say "this is my third free build this month" which could lend to the confusion. Having a text or graphic of your faction in your signature would be helpful to identify same faction approvers. This is a great idea... except for the fact that I'm doing this mobile and unfortunately can't see anyone's signatures... Quote
Ayrlego Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) Thanks Ska for all your hard work with the MRCA results and scorecard!!! One quick question, the totals on the scorecard show our yield for February, but without adding our balance from January or Challenge 1 - is that right? If so will there be anywhere we can see our total balance? edit: or is it our responsibility to track that? Edited March 4, 2016 by Ayrlego Quote
SkaForHire Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 Correct on the missing challenge DBs, that was just pointed out to me by another member too. Sorry, I forgot to add that last column. I will have to redo the scores later. This does have January in there as well though. Quote
