But if all eggs are in the same basket, all will either hit or miss.

Is there any benefit to having a large group with warships guns blazing?

You are less vulnerable should pirates attack you.

BoBS MRCA is no Carnival Holiday cruise.

To the venerable Don Isaac Montoya

I believe you're sources have provided you with inadequate information. Although a pirate vessel was spotted in the waters surrounding Lebellan, it was first and foremost Eslandolans on the treasure hunting endeavor. Although I have no bad experiences with Sea Rats, I must insist on not being mistaken for one. The rumours of the treasure however were all true. I have proof, which I will procure when the time is right.

Sincerely, Captain Ludwig Saxchsenhauser

Do I see a duel in the works?

But not so much when hurricane attacks.

Srsly? There are combat rolls for fishing trips?

No cargo in the bay, but random npc pirates just wanna blow up your canoe anyway?

Of course! Blowing up stuff is fun! ;)

If you were a pirate, and the only prey was a fishing boat, wouldn't you "appropriate" it? I would!

I am not a pirate at heart, but a little prize money never hurt anyone! :D

To the most honourable Captain Saxchsenhauser,

I completely admit my mistake and hope that you will accept my full apology. I shall venture to be more critical as to my sources of information in the future to avoid further misunderstandings.

I shall require no proof of your statement, but that of your word, which I regard as as much. Should this be insufficient, I will offer you any satisfaction you might require.

Your servant,

Don Isaac Montoya

I sent Tigerlily on a bounty run last month. On the form you just pick which zone you are going to if I remember? In the MCRA description it says that the payouts are randomly assigned before the month starts (so if you send a flotilla to the same zone their payouts should be comparable). I just picked a zone where the trade was likely to be bad, as I assumed the pirates would be after the bigger targets and hanging around the likely trade routes. No idea what everyone else did, I didn't get a great payout, but my ship survived.

*Blackbeard in his class 5A QAR encounters a class 0 fishing boat*

Blackbeard: Ya-hargh! I spy with my spyglass a little fishing boat by the coast off starboard!

Bo'sun, change our heading! We shall take them!

Bo'sun: You sure about this, Cap'n? We're 5 classes above them! A fishing boat has naught much of value anyway.

Blackbeard: I don't care!

*QAR comes within firing distance of the fishing boat.

Bo'sun: Cap'n, there are only 2 wee lads on that boat. They haven't even caught any fish yet, from the looks of it.

Blackbeard: Open fire.

Bo'sun: Cap'n?! Open fire? But they won't even resist!

Blackbeard: I don't care. The 1d10 says we open fire, we open fire.

*QAR fires. The fishing boat disintegrates.

Bo'sun: I hope you're happy, Cap'n. We just killed two wee lads on foppery and whim.

Blackbeard: ... ...I see another fishing boat.

A question.

If a player has more than 3 vessels, a license penalty is imposed.

Is there any such thing for factions, or are there only the upkeep? (Which may or may not be active yet?)

I am undecided on my own opinion on this, but wonder if not the difference in these aspects risks leading weaker minds to game the system?

There is upkeep for factions for Ship 4 and up, these are paid after the first month the ship has been active. Next accounting period will be where we see the first upkeeps paid. There will be upkeep for vessels over class 5 for players too.

Those both sound like trade runs to me.

@Fuzzy, You're always welcome to take a bounty run whenever/wherever. So far they haven't proven exceptionally lucrative (as far as I can tell), but who knows? - you might strike it rich!

Well, you have to remember that each vessel only carries a percentage of overall total value of trade or bounty. So those people who sent rafts (.5 $ value) made a decent profit for a raft, while others make a lot more for sending vessels with a 2 $ trade value. There is a random roll for intercept involved, and a random roll for how much ofthe total treasure you have access to.

Thanks for the clarification, Ska. And let me know when (/if) you would like me to take a look at the reviewed vessel classes. I am at your service.

I am currently (slowly) drafting out the new MRCA, I will then send those rules to you and CB4 for comment, I am looking for one more person to comment on the next draft, preferably somebody that plays strategy board games.

EDIT: Oh yeah, new trade map and values have gone up

If you have not already found one more person, I would like to volunteer.

I am against upkeep costs for class 5+.

It will already cost me a fortune to licence Margot. If I have to pay upkeep, it is a huge investment for a ship that can be lost after already 1 month...

Don't forget building a class 5+ ship is for most people also a real life investment. For the same money you can make smaller ships without upkeep and bigger ROI

A thought for anyone interested. (As I will not myself be able to do anything about it for now...)

Have any of considered whaling? It seems to me to be an interesting aspect of the Brick Seas that we have yet not seen.

Maxim, I am pretty sure we will need a money sink in this EGS, otherwise people will grow ridiculously rich, which only leads to lack of boredom and inflation. And outfitting large vessels, especially for war, should be a costly affair. And we don't want to inflate the wealth even more for those who have amassed the funds to buy such a great warship. Equility and balance, eh? Further, the use of such a vessel should be connected with some advantages and disadvantages, so that they do not completely take over the seas.

However, I agree that the risk of being lost at sea is very large.

Therefore, I would suggest some sort of attribute that makes ships over a certain size much less prone to being lost at sea. (A large ship will endure much heavier seas than a small sloop.) But perhaps this is already part of the MRCA 2.0?

And maybe there will be some modifiers from the skill-system, when that is launched?

I sure hope so!

In any case, I understand your concerns, but disagree with your proposed solution! pirate_laugh2.gif

Wouldn't whaling essentially be covered by the Bounty run? But perhaps there should be some special whaling event/bonus roll or something.

Bounty runs, surely.

However, my point was more the IC vocation than an idea for the EGS. As an inspiration, I mean. I would love to see whalers, whales, whale boats, etc.! ;)

SebeusI has build an epic whale, with only 2x4 bricks. I'll ask him about it on BMW.

And I'd like to see some whaling (don't get me wrong, I'm against it IRL)

Whaling was a perfectly acceptable occupation back in the era where BoBS takes place. Whale oil was needed for lights and lubrication. It was highly dangerous. Many whalers were maimed or killed. From the whaling ship, men went out on small boats to harpoon the whale and whale would pull them on a wild ride for hours. Maybe some occupational healthy and safety fine in the EGS, if the roll of the die is losing crew or injuries. I guess the whaling ship can always run into hurricanes and pirates too.

I really think it is out of place to discuss the morality of whaling here... Given that we have, erhm... houses of pleasure, pirates, and burning natives at the stake! pirate_laugh2.gif

Question of property types......

What would a training center or school be classified as?

For that matter, what about a church/temple or shrine?

Just curious....

They might fall under Artisan as they provide a service - such as training service or religious Mass service.

Artisan: An artisan is a craftsman business, such as a blacksmith shop, tanner, barrel maker, etc… The MOC should clearly show an artisan’s shop. Services, such as taverns, are included in this category.
