Maxim I Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Its full potential is probably a Class 5 Light A. IT could probably pass for something smaller as well. Well, I am modifying it to a Xebec with 10 heavy cannons. It looks a lot smoother now :) Can I post the result here? :) Quote
SkaForHire Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 I would just post it as a revised MOC in the BoBS forum. Actually, I assume we will still index ships that are made for BoBS with the other pirates forum ships Quote
Gideon Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) I think I should sign up for Oleon since I've got a soft spot for bluecoats because one of my very first large sets in my childhood was the 6276 Eldorado Fortress (unfortunately I haven't found all the minifigs but I'm going to check at my parent's house if the flag still has it's clips intact). I've never ever built a single Pirate MOC as an AFOL and I have a strong "builder's block" when it comes to ships in general, so I think this would be a good challenge to get out of the sand dunes of Kaliphlin for a while Of course I don't really have time to participate in any significant way (can't even build 5% of what I would like to do for GoH now...), but being part of this game from the start feels like the only chance I have to not lose track completely. And after having missed the first great year of GoH I'm not going to repeat my mistake! Placed an order 20 minutes ago on some Pirates sets at the clearance sale at the online lego store which I accidentaly stumbled upon tonight, I feel very lucky! Also ordered a chess set even though it wasn't on sale (and Swedish MRSP prices are insane...) since it is such a good starter pack for figures, just need to get some hats for the bluecoats from BrickLink. I suspect that it is good advice for anyone who wants to join this game (and especially Oleon) to not miss out on the Pirates sets now when they are "retiring soon" and might go out of stock any day, in fact while I was shopping the two 70409 Shipwreck Defense I had in my cart disappeared before I had time to check out... compensated that with another 70410 Soldiers Outpost Looking forward to building my very first pirate ship (including my childhood, I never got the pirate ship...) and then hopefully turning it into a MOC vessel later Anyway, I'll return with a sigfig with backstory within a week or so when I'm back with my bricks. Garmadon Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Glad to see you here Gideon, though you do keep going around joining the wrong guilds/factions I was thankfully able to get a pirate chess set at a good discount a while ago (though it hasn't arrived all the way down here yet...), and I'm pretty much in the same boat as you about building pirate age ships... but I hope that will change pretty soon! Looking forward to any builds you are able to put into this! Quote
TitusV Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Welcome Gideon! I know the boat-feeling, I've never MOCed a ship. Quote
Bart Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Why is nobody signing up for the Sea Rats fraction? Is it not interesting enough? With the lack of military, royal houses, scientists, religion, trade companies? Bart Quote
TitusV Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Why is nobody signing up for the Sea Rats fraction? Is it not interesting enough? With the lack of military, royal houses, scientists, religion, trade companies? Bart I don't know. Lots of people were interested in the poll. Quote

With the lack of military, royal houses, scientists, religion, trade companies? Bart As Titus pointed out, Pirates were really popular in the polls :/ I am glad Corrington is getting new members, so now it is up to the pirates :) Quote
gedren_y Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I think that part of the hold-up is that most people perceive pirates as needing their own ships, and those may take some time to build. It is reasonable to think that the Sea Rats may grow in number later on. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I was in two minds- Corrington and Sea Rats. In the end I couldn't make a pirate fig I liked so I went for Corrington (although I have far more bluecoats and plenty of green bandanas so the whole thing was pretty open). Quote
Tomsche Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) I think I`ve figured it out, as well as how the EGS works So if I`m correct in proeceeding, once my fig and build for it are ready (I`ll be able to take pics in a few days, families to visit etc), should be as follows right: 1. Create a post with the figure in the relevant faction thread 2. Fill in a free build form and send it in 3. Post the link in the freebuild forum 4. Start building a small, `free` boat, enter the license form 5. Sign up for the Monthly raiding thing with said boat 6. Trial and error to proceed through it all :-) Oh, am I correct to use the forms I found in the Master Index for all those things, or are there seperate ones? Edited January 2, 2016 by Tomsche Quote
Simon_S Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 You can skip point 2 (as much as I know, admins correct me if I'm wrong), but otherwise I came to the same solution after a lot of reading ;-). Quote
TitusV Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 That's my conclusion as well, altough you don't have to fill in a webform for the intro+sigfig Quote
Kai NRG Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Simon is right, skip step 2. The forms in the Master Index are correct as well. You can also build a small, free property. Quote
Maxim I Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 1. Sigifig (25 db) 2. Freebuild 3. Register the freebuild at the forum (10 db or variable if the third freebuild in that month) 4. Licence the freebuild if you want to participate in the EGS with that build (through webform) 5. Fill webform in to participate at MCRA with a licenced ship (or plural) Quote

Bart Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) Sorry for the double post, but Questions::: Challenge I cat A & B Challenge II cat A & B Does that mean I have to can build 4 MOC's ? Are the categories combine-able? as in 1 moc for challenge 1 both complying with the guidelines of cat A and B ? Will the, to be won islands of challenge I, be given to winning fractions, before challenge II ends? Do I make them in separate topics? And then link them into the challenge topic just like the Freebuild? What is the stance on LDD? I don't have that specific type of native, can I use another? (I've got hula girls) (sorry if these questions are plain to some, but I never participated in GoH so I'm new to this) Bart Extra: Is there magic in this world? (or act of god if you are from Oleon) Edited January 2, 2016 by Bart Quote
Captain Dee Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Bart, each category of each challenge requires its own MOC. That means one MOC for CH IA, another for CH IB, plus one more for CH IIA. CH IIB has no MOC limit (make as many as you want) but a limit of 6 photos. Of course you're not obligated to participate in all 4 categories - do as many or as few as you want, or not at all. It's up to you! If you participate in more than one challenge category then definitely post them in seperate topics. I think you'll be required to link to the challenge thread. LDD has been approved for general use; however there may be limitations for challenges. Use your imagination for the natives. The hula girls have been used as Islanders before so go for it. I would take this question to the Challenge topics if you need more answers. Quote
Bart Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Captain Dee, thank you. I think you got them all, so no need to post them into challenge topics. The questions weren't really challenge specific. (why I posted them here) There is plenty of time for it all, So now I'll have to gather some inspiration, as to how such action fit in to my characters story. Bart Quote

(or act of god if you are from Oleon) Since CD fielded most of this, I will field the rest. We will come up with a final decision for LDD for these challenges this week. Islands for Challenge 1 will be known and claimed before Challenge 2a ends. In fact, you may even know where they are in a few weeks and be able to squat on them (not recommended, but possible) Magic is kind of a grey area right now, normal sea myth is acceptable though. Mermaids, Krackens, etc... We really don't want to see fireball mages blowing up people's ships. Divine miracles, are generally acceptable. Quote

And what about a mythical quest with some apparition of some creatures from the Greek mythology ? Is that acceptable ? Quote
Gideon Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 What about other mythical creatures? Are all inhabitants of the new islands human or are any humanoids plausible? I'm thinking if natives could be for example cyclops, goblins or the like? Quote
nivremis Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Between having just moved (read: lego all packed up), work, and finishing up a postgrad in the next 2 months, life's busy, but I'd love to get on board with this. Just had a question regarding ships - Like many here I've never actually moc-ed a ship, was just wondering how historically and "engineering-ly" accurate we need to be, regarding things like sail to size ratio and all? Naturally I don't think anyone will end up building a 50 stud ship with a teeny sail, but also trying to avoid "oh that'll never actually sail" type things. Thanks! Quote
Captain Dee Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 I wouldn't worry too much about the ships. Most of us didn't hit a home run on our first try. The best way to learn is by building. If what you build looks sensible, then don't be afraid to post it. We're all here for input, right? If you want lots of ideas then just take a look at the ship index - it's got everything. Quote
