Hmmm, I've been working on a build I was going to license as a bank, and it should be up before the end of the month. Perhaps it should be an "investment" bank where you can buy "futures" on ships in the MRCA. The Weelond Investment and Futures Exchange, yeah, that's what I could call it. Now, what do I need to work on more, the MOC or the spreadsheet I need for its operation? :pir-grin:

Maybe I need to come up with a different name, though. Not sure I like that acronym where money's involved...

Spreadsheets are the easy part :D Develop an algorythm on paper and you are set quickly. Btw, anyone in need for a spreadsheet for calculating your shipshares from the outcome sheet of the MRCA?

You could just go for a 'regular' bank... run by the Mafia - with a secret room in the back, accessible only for those involved and introduced to this betting society. Maybe @SilentWolf's Mafia of Charlatan Bay now has got a branch business over in Weelond.

Well, let me say that I am very happy to have reached the position of a feared and notorious pirate sea rat. This is really everything I ever desired from the game system.

I am especially pleased that after this tremendous series of victories a classy and fancy ship with a beautiful name like the Queen Annetta's Revenge has proven itself worthy as a legendary pirate ship sailers speak under their breath in every (Oleander) tavern.

With a risk that you lose half your money if you don't behave? I say keep it.

Hello everyone, I am thinking about joining Eslandola, possibly as a merchant.  I have a few questions though,

Does my character have to wear green?  And does my character have to have a Spanish influenced name?

If I am unable to build a ship, could I charter one?  (Debating on getting parts for a ship, not sure which parts are needed for a simple yet appealing ship)

Thanks,

-Goliath

no,no,yes

To get a bit more into detail:

Your character does not have to wear green at all. Like in the real world not every American in the real world wears stars and stripes as his clothes. In fact I don't think that many Eslandolans war green, except military and officials of course. It's perfectly fine if your character wears other colours! Also Eslandola as a nation probably has some less national pride compared to Oleon (especially) and also Corringto. Being a free merchant who cares for nothing but his profit is perfectly fine. And if profit means that you wear red when you enter a Corrington port, then you cannot be more Eslandolan! So yes, no green required!

Also regarding your name: Not every character who is an Eslandolan originates from Eslandola, or maybe his parents or grandparents come from somewhere else, and kept their traditions. Also we have the first people who were born in the colonies being grown up now, maybe in the colonies names are different from traditional Eslandola? Or maybe your father was a sailor and had a low bond to Eslandola and did not give a ***. What is important, though, is that the name matches the world ("Grishzak-Gro Hulbarg the Worldburner" might fit in GoH, but not here). So no, no Spanish name required.

Regarding ships: You can definitely buy ships, capture ships, or buy shares in ships. The condition, though, is that someone else has MOCed it, which might prove difficult in reality. I am not much of a shipwright myself, but figured that especially small ships (class 0) are rather easy to build (like this or like this). Even for my class 2 I hardly used any prefab ship-parts (see here). Also you can definitely play entirely without ships, no problem at all. However I suggest to give it a try, I didn't regret trying myself and plan on trying again soon. Also there is always LDD (Kolonialbeamter is the grandmaster of digital ships, like here or here). But if you don't want to MOC ships, that's really 100% fine!

Furthermore: If you decide to join Eslandola, once you have posted your third Eslandola-MOC I will donate you 25 DBs from my private cash as a welcome bonus.

Elostirion ninja'd me, but anyhow:

Nope, you're character doesn't have to wear green, and no, he doesn't have to have a Spanish influenced name either - mine is a bit Dutch, and a bit French, and bit just me. :pir_tong2:

You could strike a deal with another BoBS member and buy a ship MOC from that person.  It wouldn't be called chartering though.  For getting an idea of what's needed to build a ship, you might want to start browsing at the index here!

@Elostirion covered the basics. Eslandola also has the Truachesh neh Triuri culture (lots of Celtic sounding names) and those who converted to the Triuri faith. My sig fig is a Wandering Acolyte, spreading the faith in the Brick Seas.

All my full hulls have been LDD. My next build will be, too.

@Elostirion, @Kai NRG, and @gedren_y:  Thank you for the answers, it is much appreciated!  As a character, my goal is without a doubt profit and becoming a business magnate.  For ships, I think I will give it a go but I work with prefab pieces for the trade ship.  If not, I could always use LDD as an alternative.

That's not a problem. Most ships in the game probably use prefab hulls and masts. All of mine do so far.

Welcome to BoBS!

I literally laughed out loud when I saw this.  Well done Kolonialbeamter!

That's not quite the correct first reaction to this, but thanks nonetheless

Maybe a stick will achieve what carrots couldn't do... stupid vegetables!
