lostdriveway challenged me to create the Haunted Mansion from the LEGO Scooby Doo short, "Knight Time Terror."

Here are some pics he sent me:

Looks accurate so far! The boards on the main windows may present a problem. They don't seem to attach anywhere.

Don't worry Xon67, I won't hijack this thread with comments like I did am doing your Bricksburg thread.

lostdriveway--This is going to be a big build! I'll give you some stats when I have them to let you know what you're getting yourself into. :-)

I've already noticed that there were some liberties taken with this show with regards to the builds. The neck of the plant monster uses an older LEGO ball joint, but it's scaled down to the size of the newer Mixels ball and socket so it would fit into a Mixels socket. So, I ended up using the parts that were used in the actual LEGO set for the neck. Also, the main mansion roof doesn't use the standard slope pieces--it has too steep of an angle. I will have to ad-lib something for this.

More in the works!

You don't know how excited this makes me!! I'm a huge Scooby Doo fan ever since I was a kid - so much that my family nickname is Scooby!!

Once you are done with the greenhouse let me know so I can start ordering the bricks!

The Scooby Doo sets finally broke me of my "not collecting flesh tone minifigs sets" ... dang it! LOL!

I do wish they had made the mansion set more substantial like the Haunted House from Monster Fighters though...

So looking forward to see your progress... this is awesome! :)

This looks amazing my Friend.I`ve always been a big Fan of the Scooby Doo Gang and recently watched the Knight Time Terror Special.

I love Lego Movies and Shows where pretty much everything is made out of "real" Bricks instead of a generic 3D Environment and Lego Characters placed as Actors.

Watching this Lego Special also gave me a few "ha,look how they did that" Moments and i always have to smile when they do funny Stuff with Lego Characteristics, like actually removing the Helmet and putting on a Hairpiece and Stuff like that.

The Mansion seems to be bigger on the Inside with most Rooms looking bigger as they should be.

Can`t wait to see what you will come up next.

Thanks for the comments folks!

Here's an update on the main part of the mansion.

23850397611_87b78439c7_c.jpg

Some numbers:

The main mansion is 134 studs wide. Add 40 studs for the greenhouse and the total width is 174 studs.

So far, the mansion has around 5,000 bricks. Add approximately 1,600 for the greenhouse and we're at 6,600 bricks for the current total.

More to come!

Here's my latest update.

24184689295_e8fd71f31d_c.jpg

The main part of the mansion now sits on three 64 x 64 baseplates and consists of 6119 bricks. With the greenhouse, we're now over 7,700 bricks total.

I wanted to do a render of this to get a better idea of what it looks like, but Blue render likes to throw a java heap space error when there are a lot of bricks behind each other in a MOC. I've successfully rendered MOCS with more total parts in the past, but this build must be too many parts deep. Until I figure this out or get a different renderer that will handle it, I'll keep posting LDD screen grabs.

Turns out I only had a 32 bit version of Java installed on my machine. I upgraded to 64 bit and whaddayaknow... Bluerender now works without throwing an error. (And runs so much faster. Go figure! :-) ) Here's the pic:

Goodness! Nice job Xon67! I also watched the episode, and I am wondering if this interior will fit inside :) My guess is that again, the exterior and interior are completely separate (which is the case with most movies as well)

Another update:

24303298801_2d2e4efdae_c.jpg

KlodsBrick--Thanks for the comment! While I have tubs of LEGO bricks in my house and enjoy building with them as much as the next AFOL, I find that I can do projects like this much faster with LDD. It especially helps when working out design problems before a physical build starts. And when LDD is combined with a good renderer, like Bluerender, I think the results can be really great.

BlackStar--I'm pretty sure the inside is bigger. But not by much!

lostdriveway--I'm playing with some color choices. The roof on the far right is the color that is used in the show. The rest of the roof is the color that is used in the official LEGO set. I'm not sure all of the slope pieces we need for the roof come in any one color. So, we'll have to decide how we want to approach pieces that don't come in the colors we want. I'll get some specifics together for you and then we can discuss it...

Next, I'll finish the roof and then it's on to the clock tower...

I've never heard of Blue Render, but it looks really good...

Man, where do you get the time to build this!
