Backgild Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Can we start a spoiler thread for this discussion? It is really hard to comment without potentially crossing someone's line on spoilers, and a thread full of spoiler tags is a bit inconvenient. Quote
rollermonkey Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Frankly, if someone comes into a thread that is geared for people to comment on sets after having seen the film, then complains about spoilers, whose fault is that? Nobody is spoiling plot by saying that the landing gear on Ren's Shuttle is completely wrong, and even my saying that the falcon looks lighter for having been on Jakku a while doesn't spoil anything important either... ...and actual plot discussion should be down in the media forum. Only Sinner Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I already built the Falcon, FO Transporter, and Rey's speeder. Now I can't wait to get Poe's X-Wing, Maz's bacon castle, and the Resistance Transporter. I would really like to see a set focused on Starkiller base. Quote

bootz Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 What's the point of this thread without spoilers? Seems pretty unreasonable to not expect them here, or to ask for a spoiler free version when the point is for people who have seen the movie to discuss the sets. So concerned about spoilers? See the movie or don't open a thread where the people commenting are discussing the sets in the context of having seen it. That being said, the line up of sets covered pretty much all the bases of the movie, sans the actual Starkiller base which will be very hard for them to do justice in anything less than a UCS set. I'm actually more excited about the TFA Falcon after seeing the film, it obviously won't be the last we see of it so *another Falcon* makes more sense now. I also want a Poe's T-70 after seeing him string together those several nasty kills. The upcoming Takodana set could be better I think though with just a bit of interior. The set is obviously about the battle, but maybe just a little bit of interior for more context would be nice. Ren's shuttle is probably the weakest link of the bunch. Quote
Cyanide-Tipped Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Somehow I foresee a UCS Starkiller set incoming in 2016? Quote
bootz Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Somehow I foresee a UCS Starkiller set incoming in 2016? Is it really UCS worthy at this point though? We haven't gotten any Prequel locations as UCS sets yet, and I'd imagine the real money for that line would be with the original trilogy. Quote
Cyanide-Tipped Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 True bootz but we are pretty certain the UCS Hoth base is coming (doubt another base for a while). I'm just basing it off of the TFA hype. I'd rather have a new UCS MF. :) Quote
bootz Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I'm rooting for a UCS Bespin myself. Hoth is fairly easy to MOC. Quote
rollermonkey Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Since this thread is for those who've seen the film... How many vehicles that weren't made into sets were there? The ship that Rey and Finn run towards and gets blown up, the ship the Falcon 'visits' after leaving Jakku, the FO star destroyer... Did we actually see the ship Finn was headed towards on Takodana? Ground support equipment at the Resistance base. ...and I'm stumped. I was looking all around the edges of the space battles for anything like new Y-, B- or A-wings... Didn't see anything but X-wings and TIEs, though. Quote
wesker Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 The only ones I can think off are: Blue X-Wing First Order Star Destroyer Eravana (Han's freighter) Standard TIE Fighter (only difference between this and the Special Forces one is the lack of cogs on the wings and no red paint) First Order AT-AT Quadjumper (ship that gets destroyed on Jakku) Quote

Didn't see anything but X-wings and TIEs, though. Exactly! One of the reasons I am disappointed with The Force Awakens. There are not enough new and interesting Designs for ships and vehicles, not even close. The only one really standing out for me was Kylo Rens Shuttle... anything else, not so much. And then they only used recoloured Versions of TIEs and X-Wings for the supposed to be "big" fights... Quote
Darth Dino Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) Hi i totally forgot about the straight wings of Kylo Rens shuttle.Thats a bummer, I should defenitely have the ability to angle the wings. But with respect to the Lambda shuttle there would have been a strong mechanism to turn them. The wings of the Lambda seem to be a way lighter than the ones from Kylos shuttle.Maybe a technic "lock" solution with two positions would help ratjer than a geared turning, Dino Edited December 20, 2015 by Darth Dino Quote

Blondie-Wan Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I'm just looking forward to finally being able to pay attention to the sets, now that I've seen the movie. I haven't actually gotten any of them yet, aside from C-3PO. Quote
Dameronian Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Screw it. I can't be politically correct any longer. I'm posting a huge spoiler. In yo' face! Quote

The TIE fighter and X-Wing have clearly evolved. I mean, when you compare the cars we drive today to the ones in the 1980's... sure, there's a difference both in structure and engine but they don't look drastically different. Quote
hachiroku Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Nobody is going to ask for a set with a rathtar? Quote
DarthPotato Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Nobody is going to ask for a set with a rathtar? I think Han and Chewie's freighter with a Rathtar and a couple of the Guavian Death Gang guys would be a pretty cool set. Not to mention it's one of the only vehicles that LEGO hasn't made yet. The only problem would be the scale. Maybe LEGO can do something similar to what they did with the Imperial Assault Carrier this year and give us a mini Falcon in the set. Quote

Thats just a lazy excuse... Like the director/writer would care about coherent elements inside the universe on this level. And even if you would take it this accurate, its still no reason to not have any new versions of the B- Wing, Y-Wing, A-Wing, Capital Ships as well as all the TIE Fighter Variants (Bomber, Interceptor...) apperent. Actually would be way less likely to have solely X-Wings on one side and TIE Fighters and the other... And we are still not talking about completely new craft designs.... like there wouldnt be new ships in 30 years inside the universe... Quote

And we are still not talking about completely new craft designs.... like there wouldnt be new ships in 30 years inside the universe... We didn't see much of a need for specialized fighters though. The Finalizer held squadrons of the TIE/fo and TIE/sf. A need for bombers and interceptors didnt really present itself. There were only several ships in ANH, it wasn't until the next two movies that the other rebel and imperial fighters surfaced. The squadron of T-70s were all that part of the Resistance could muster through the movie. Presumably, any other fighters were with the Republic fleet. Quote
Dameronian Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) I agree that the storyline didn't particularly lend itself to a vast number of additional different vehicles. We already have quite a few ahem , cold weather, vehicles nearly unused as it is.. I actually like the standardized attack craft approach of both resistance and FO, as this is realistic for the types of conflict shown in the movie. Even the resistance troop transport has the specific backstory to why it's looks like it does.. Edited December 21, 2015 by Dameronian Quote
Schneeds Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I certainly would have liked to have seen more ships in the movie, however I understand why the ones they had weren't drastically different. Imagine how long it would take to build something the size and complexity of a Star Destroyer? It makes an aircraft carrier look like a motorcycle. 30 years isn't that long of a time span. Also, I would imagine in the immediate aftermath of Endor the Empire was in complete disarray and there was a pretty good lull in ship building/development. Quote
rollermonkey Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Yes, but that still doesn't explain a complete absence of Y's, B's or A's. Even ANH had X's and Ys, plus capital ships for the Rebels and there was variety on the Empire side, too. No military force relies exclusively on a single piece of equipment. Quote
cavegod Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 The resistance transport uses an armoured Mk2 B-wing cockpit so there must be another B-wing. The speeder chase was cut from the film ( we do see it twice though) which is were we prob saw the base defence walkers (theres two in the distance when Chewies cold) and the smaller attack walkers/speeder bikes. Kylo and snow troopers searching the falcon was cut as well. There's the ship that left Rey on Jakku you see in the flash back plus the freighter that Finn was going to leave in before the attack. Kylo's shuttle is the one that stands out, doesn't look much bigger than a lambda, UCS version is a must but the wing extending is the hard bit! Quote
