Garmadon Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 To the honorable, excellent, etc., etc., Don Isaac Montoya and the nation of Corrington, As the news has doubtlessly reached you of the recent end of the war with our rascally rival, Mardier, and as certain rumors may be floating around that Eslandola has had its fill of war for the moment and means to pursue as peaceful a course as may be possible in the upcoming Era and re-institute a perfectly friendly and cordial relationship with the its esteemed neighbors - which had it not been for our (temporarily) mad king and the nation of Mardier, should never have been anything else - I have now been engaged to put those rumors to rest... they are quite true. In short, I hereby present the form of the treaty which, we believe, should aid in the consolidation of our friendship, and which nonetheless requires nothing more from one nation or the other which common civility should not already demand. The proposed treaty is as follows: Be it known that, For the promulgation of peace and trade in the great Empires of Corrington and Eslandola! - The ruling bodies of these realms hereby agree that: During the duration of this Treaty, no aggressive acts shall be permitted by the Empire of Eslandola or any of its citizens or entities upon any citizen or entity of Corrington, or the Empire of Corrington itself, and all issues which may arise shall be decided by the courts of each nation working in peaceful conjunction, which they agree to do as long as possible in order to arrive at a satisfactory conclusion.. Also during the duration of this Treaty, no aggressive acts shall be permitted by the Empire of Corrington or any of its citizens or entities upon any citizen or entity of Eslandola, or said Empire itself, and all issues which may arise shall be similarly decided by the courts of each nation working in peaceful conjunction, which they agree to do as long as possible in order to arrive at a satisfactory conclusion.. Should any violation of the above stipulations take place, and if either nation shows itself belligerent, unsupportive, or recalcitrant in finding a solution to the affair, it will be construed as a virtual dissolution of the treaty which may then be considered null and void by the unoffending nation. Moreover, each Empire binds itself toward a friendly diplomatic relationship calculated to consider their mutual good. This Treaty may be disolved, upon a month's warning, by either of the participants giving due notice to the other of their intention towards dissolution. This Treaty is a non-aggression pact and is demonstrative of the unspoken prior condition already existing between the two illustrious Empires and should not be construed as ushering in a new status. With the best regards of the Council, plus your own truly's, Myles Bowditch, Secretary of State of Eslandola Quote
Bregir Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Honourable secretary Bowditch, On behalf of her Royal Majesty, Queen Anetta of Corrington, I extent our thanks for the honour and friendship your offer conveys. Our sovereign will advice with the Parliament and return with a reply at her earliest convenience. Your humble servant Don Isaac Montoya Consul Quote
Garmadon Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 To the most excellent, etc., etc., Don Isaac Montoya, I am delighted to have received your very... in-... conclusive?.. missive. I hope that you do turn it over to the house right-side-up and not the opposite way, or that the council is expert at reading communications written up-side-down - a very useful skill, I assure you. I sincerely hope that this treaty may be rapidly finalized and a peaceful, friendly relationship more thoroughly established between these two great nations. With the best regards of the Council, plus your own truly's, etc., etc., Myles Bowditch, Secretary of State P.S. Captain - Captain Bowditch... Quote
Bregir Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Dear secretary, P. S. Captain-Captain Bowditch, I know not if it is customary for secretaries of state of Eslandola to commit to such matters without consulting peers and sovereign, but in Corrington we believe in order and reasonable debate, so you will forgive for my inconclusiveness for now and for not being able to quite live up to your standards of rapidity! Best regards Don Isaac Montoya Consul PS. Neither sovereign, stadtholder, prime minister, nor president, but Consul! Quote

If you were to sum up what happened to Corrington in Era I, what events or developments would you emphasise? Creativity is encouraged and everyone is welcome to join in. Obviously, not everything will make it into the final project, but the input will be valued regardless. Quote

Honest answer: I don't recall Corrington doing anything of note. You guys were briefly on the Isla we Steala with ESL, but left. Apart from that, you sailed in convoys and developed your colonies in a peaceful and non-confrontational manner. A few NPC pirate purges but not a lot of exciting action. Frankly, in Era I you acted in a merchant-centric manner as I thought ESL would while they acted in an aggressively expansionist manner as I thought you would. My 2 coins. Quote

SilentWolf Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Well since all the non-Corrington people have had a chance to give their perspectives, I shall give my overview. In Era I, Corrington quickly mastered the seas and perfected her methods of managing trade routes. The convoys brought in exceptional profits to all who participated with Corrington . Corrington also swept pirates from before her. With minimal losses, her convoys and escorts captured pirate ships at such an extraordinary rate that the shipyards are still attempting to repair all the ships. In addition, there were so many ships in drydock, that the queen offered free right of first capture to those who helped the Crown build ships. The explorers of the empire fanned out across the newly discovered areas in search of land and scientific discoveries. They traveled more extensively then all the other empires, and added massive numbers of new islands to the empire. Corrington claimed more islands than any other nation in both the Sea of Thieves and the Prio Seas. The government of Corrington was stable throughout the first era which is more than can be said of all the other nations in the region. There were periods of slowness in government decisions being made, but that I am sure was due to the fact that the empire was expanding faster than the information could be kept current. The expansion also prevented the scientists and cartographers from keeping up with the new discoveries which left some confusion for new settlers attempting to join the new colonies to the east. This slowed down the growth of the towns, which proved detrimental as shipping slowed down in the second half of Era I. However, due to the great profits of the first half of the Era, Corrington's citizens invested deeply in properties and business ventures in other nations and the slowed income from the lack of MRCA's was not detrimental to the citizens who stayed active. In short, Corrington outpaced all her neighbors on the seas and in discoveries. Her shipyards are still humming away furthering her power on the seas, and it will take another entire era before another nation could surpass the landmass acquired by Corrington in the first era. Bregir Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Thanks for your erhm... Input, all! ;) Silentwolf, that is a brilliant write-up. If I hadn't already brutally forced you into the Corrington story committee, I would now! ;) Mind if I use some/all of it for our Era II sign up thread? Quote
gedren_y Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Are the Corries going to acknowledge the efforts of Lady Valentia Cantoni? What she found on her stargazing trip was nobly turned over to the proper authority at the Royal Swordsmen's Club in King's Harbour. Corrington, it can be argued, benefitted greatly from her sense of honor. Quote
SilentWolf Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Definitely you can use whatever you need, and you can feel free to change it however is needed. @gedren_y, I believe we referenced her in the challenge 5E builds as to the source of our knowledge of the lost city and our long lost explorer, Dr. Brickinson. We are indeed grateful. Though I am not sure that in her hasty retreat, she left her name so that we could properly reward her. Feel free to correct me if I err in this. Quote
