This might be old news to some, but the recently announced 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds includes a new minifigure of the Hogwarts Architect featuring a really interesting new beard mould.

Currently the new beard is exclusive to this set and only confirmed in one colour (pearl gold?). However, I presume it will be released in other colours in coming years.

If recoloured in white it would be perfect for a modernised Majisto/Cerlin figure (perhaps in the rumoured upcoming Majisto GWP). It could work well in dwarf or viking mocs.

Don't know if it has been mentioned before - the tan bow from the CMF falconer is available on PaB. Element ID 6420270. I‘ve ordered a dozen …

Resurrecting the discussion on an updated Dragon Masters, New Elementary just did a look at some villain figs from the Dreamz theme, and the molded cape of this fig seems to be a perfect fit.

On a side note, am I the only one seeing the dual molded swords in Dreamz looking like they began as the two versions of Lion-O's sword from when Lego was trying to get the Thundercats license? We already have pretty good intel that a number of the designs from that attempt became Legends of Chima.

I kinda like that cape for a fantasy Fright Knight (dragon rider). Nevertheless it is a great piece.

Yeah, I feel like it fits the Fright Knights vibe a bit better. For one thing, it has much more supernatural/occult vibes than the Dragon Masters — after all, even though that was a fantasy subtheme, most of its characters besides Majisto and his dragons felt fairly grounded. Also, although this is often something they're criticized for, the Dragon Masters knight minifigures made heavy use of flamboyant primary colors, even compared to some of the Castle factions that preceded them. So a black cape this large on a Dragon Masters minifig in addition to the obligatory black helmet might throw off that balance between bright and neutral colors.

The Hocus pocus cottage looked better (to me) on display at the store vs. Pictures. Turns out it is quite imposing (so forget pairing with 10305). Interior access is worse (still) than I thought. One would need to give it the modular treatment (and change the whole interior to match whatever medieval establishment one would want to convert it into). Not a personal priority budget-wise but if I see it tank in price I’ll be there. In any case, looking forward to what some of you will make with it!

What do you all think of the lute from the Chinese new year set? I hadn't noticed it before, but it just showed up on PAB. Does it fit into the castle theme? It looks pretty cool, but maybe it's supposed to be imitating a different type of instrument? I'm not sure.

It's seemingly based on a pipa ("Chinese lute"). In real life these have a longer body and shorter neck than most European lutes, but the LEGO one uses the same mold so that's not really an issue, nor is the number of strings/courses. The biggest issue for MOCs in a medieval European setting is that its printed graphics are based on a modern pipa, which lacks the sound hole that would be present on pretty much all European lutes. So I guess it comes down to whether that's a detail you're willing to overlook.

I like it.  Of course they had to go & add new parts after I just placed my big order I'd been holding off on waiting for the VIP days offers.  There's a handful of parts in that set I want but not enough to buy the whole set even at the current 20% off.  But they're killing me with the crazy prices they've started charging for the animal head pieces, $7.51 for the rabbit head.  Guess I'll start building a new list for the next GWP offer.

The new Harry Potter set has a dragon head. I'm not sure whether it's a new mold, but it makes me wonder if they might plan to reuse it for a dragon knights set in the near future.

After the set 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station, it is the turn of the set 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank to include the piece with the effigy of the dragon (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=98138pb380#T=C&C=115). We also see that the emphasis is placed on this emblem with a large logo on the box of the set as well as the presence of this symbol on one or more Tile Round 2x2 Pearl Gold parts with the inscription: "Unum Galleon" seeable in the online shop (https://www.lego.com/cdn/cs/set/assets/blt80ec055086a3919e/76417_alt7.png?format=webply&fit=bounds&quality=75&width=800&height=800&dpr=1).

Earlier in the topic I made the connection with the classic dragon from the Castle theme because I find that this one looks particularly like it. In fact, it is the same dragon. I thought the introduction of this piece in the Hogwarts Express was an occasional way of rescuing the Dragon Knights more sustainably. I think I took this dream for a reality and this is a disappointment. Indeed, it was ignoring the fact that it is an official logo from the Harry Potter universe!

But still, I can't help but think it's ideal for LEGO if they want to include these parts in the future GWP Majisto because the dragon absolutely looks like it's from the Dragon Knights era. Very strange. Could it be a simple wink? Or maybe LEGO really intended to kill two birds with one stone with the introduction of this new printed currency: HP and Castle?

Holy crap, look at that pauldron/gorget armor piece! You just know the designer was grinning ear to ear thinking of the castle parts usage while they made it.

And yes, that helmet is awesome too.

Edit: after looking up the character this minifig represents, that armor doesn’t even look like the SW character. It looks l more like old school Warcraft armor, in a good way. I think future applications of this armor piece are going to be really good for castle.

I find that these two new elements are far too futuristic to be transposed in the Castle universe and I highly doubt that LEGO has this idea in mind anyway.

The helmet is almost pure part of maximilian armour :)

Imagine that armor piece with a different print or no print in silver.  What is futuristic about it then?

TLG always has alternate uses in mind for new elements.

If you look carefully at the armor piece, they left most of the futuristic printing on the torso, and left the armor without anything mechanical

I hear your point of view, but for me it does not work. And I feel that these parts will remain exclusive, at least which will not be used in the future for new hypothetical Castle minifigures.

I disagree. It's ornate, yes, but looks quite a bit like typical ceremonial jousting armor from the 15th-16th century. I could absolutely see it appearing in a CMF series down the line.

Unless they decide or have an agreement that it is licensed and not to use it elsewhere. There have been parts that appear to be really quite generic but turn out to be license-locked. I hope that is not the case here as the helmet and armour are really nice but Lucasfilm might object if it is IP-locked. This is the Star Wars guy it is from ...

hQy1CwN.png

I guess it comes down to did they design it specifically for him and IP-lock it, or did they design it as a generic part and agree with LF that it is close enough and can be used for that character (like generic hoods are not licensed-locked, even the newish open one that looked like they might be for a while).

Interesting that he shares a name with an Arthurian knight.

I mean, I wouldn't entirely rule out the possibility of a graphic developed specifically for a licensed theme showing up in other sets and themes. For example, the map to the "Canyon of the Crescent Moon" from LEGO Indiana Jones continued appearing for around a decade in other themes like Pirates, Monster Fighters, Creator, Friends, Ideas, and even other licensed IPs like Pirates of the Caribbean, Doctor Strange, The Hobbit and Frozen. Similarly, the Aurebesh "LOCK" screen and keypad from LEGO Star Wars also showed up in Ninjago, Nexo Knights, and Marvel sets.

Even among accessory molds modeled on props from specific licensed properties, we've already seen the Dagger of Time from Prince of Persia, the Elven polearms and Uruk-Hai swords from The Lord of the Rings, Thor's hammer Mjolnir and Star Lord's blasters from Marvel, and Asajj Ventress's lightsabers from Star Wars show up in other themes.

Needless to say, which parts are or aren't permanently "IP-locked" can be extremely unintuitive, so until/unless a part like this DOES show up in sets from other themes, all we can do is speculate. I agree it'd be a great part for Castle sets/MOCs, though!

With regard to licensed element re-use, the armor that we’re getting for castle like in the blacksmith set started out as SW Praetorian guard armor, then got applied to Ninjago in PDG and Silver for the blacksmith set.

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=37614&in=S

And again, this armor is so generically medieval/fantasy when compared to the SW source material, I think application to other themes is a safe bet.

This would work in Castle/Fantasy setting but probably will be very expensive. These specialized helmets from SW usually apear in one set, then are gone and cost 10-15$ (or more) a piece at BL.

Yes! This was my first thought also, that minifig looks more like a character out of Dark Souls then Star Wars haha, I absolutely love it.
