I don’t mean to yuck anyone’s yum, but I can’t find much room for this particular CMF. I got one for my historical/mythology/fantasy CMF collection, but she’s just a little too far out there to fit in with anything else I have going on.

I must say, it is fun to see what y’all are doing with it though as far as mixing parts and expanding on the concept.

I'm in a similar boat, although I'm loving some of these variations (especially the old purple turban! I have one of those somewhere...). For me the issue is the sword and shield being transparent... they look conjured with magic, and I like my magic users to be scare (too scarce to form an army, at least). Of course, I say all of this, and I still bought two. I "need" to have some dark elves!

For me the really exciting ones from this series were the troubadour and the acorn-hatted denizen. Wound up purchasing more of the latter than I have of any CMF figure thus far, and I've bought some from every series except Simpsons and regional exclusives. That is, I bought five. Plan to mix in the parts with my fairies and elves for a sort of mixed woodland militia. Acorns are one helmet style but not everyone has to have one. Would love if some sort of dryad or wood nymph was next, but that's starting to get off-topic.

@Classic_Spaceman

Here are some more combos

These look great! The white hands and purple shoulders should be the base design from which we add different headgear, hair, etc (I am certainly going to do it!).
Also, larger pictures.

I think that they would look good with Flat Silver weapons and shields (though you would lose the crescent insignia), so you could use those for more "realistic"-looking dark elves.

I think those tiles are 1x3.

Overall even beyond my general distaste for the franchise, I'm mostly uninspired by these. Maybe they'd have excited me more a decade or so ago.

The most exciting thing, to me, is the new broom end piece that attaches to an antenna piece to finally replace the outdated and oddly shaped Fabuland broom. Being able to pair different colored handles and bristles is neat, and I bet it could be creatively used for things like plants and large tassels as well. I'm hoping it finds its way into other themes.

There's also tan bats in the Grimmauld Place set. It's a mold that hasn't been used much recently and to be honest I think it could use an update, but it is a rare recolor. Two new cat prints for Crookshanks and Mrs. Norris as well.

I wish a more vibrant and creative theme would make use of those Thestral wings at some point... stylistically they remind me of the wings for the Elves dragon but haven't appeared in any less dour colors yet.

The red songbird is very exciting to me because while we'd seen the same recolor in some of the Mario sets, it lacked eye or beak printing (which would make it less versatile for builds where it's more of a focal point and not just background detail/scenery). Also, it's a generic enough print that it's likely not IP-locked, so could easily show up in other themes (which can feel a little more questionable in the case of higher-detail animal prints like some of the new cats).

And in general, the "mini-modular" style builds in a lot of the Hogwarts sets (with individual modular segments that can be re-arranged both horizontally and vertically) are the sort of thing I would love to see in non-licensed LEGO castle sets. They've certainly gotten better at achieving an appealing balance of interior and exterior detail than the old-school HP sets of the early 2000s, which often had exteriors riddled with gaps or inconsistent color blocking.

One of these sets also has one of the best "library" builds we've seen in official sets, with a nice mix of brick-built bookshelves and molded books that can be taken down and read, plus some tasteful reading desks.

I just wish we were getting awesome customization-friendly castle architecture like this in a theme didn't turn my stomach so much…

That new Hungarian Horntail looks amazing.  Definitely picking up the dragon.  The thestrals are nice and cheap to get again.  Buckbeak is a new color.  Have we had dark green masonry bricks?.  So many new pieces.  The red bird is nice hopefully it will be on pick a brick as it's in 2 sets now.  Some new hat/hair pieces.  Cats with different prints.  The tan bat.  There is so much there to process.  New broomsticks, Sirius black in dog form the new werewolf

Really?! Looks the same to me unfortunately :def_shrug:

Pretty sure Buckbeak is the same colour and it’s just a digital image thing

Might be but the body looks lighter in color to the last one in all the photos

Understood, but we have been here before with light grey and white parts looking like a different colour in images …

Yeah there is an image of them side by side and it looks like a different shade

I think it's probably just White, though I wouldn't complain if LEGO decided to bring back Light Stone Grey (Very Light Bluish Gray). In the past, that color and its earlier counterpart Light Grey (Very Light Gray) were used quite a bit in mosaic sets similar to the current LEGO Art range. So there may be more justification for a color like that today than there was around a decade ago when it was retired.

It does look white to me too.  I have the other one from Hagrids hut and this new one seems to be lighter.  I would rather have it in another color anyway for more diverse mounts for my elves.

Don’t think the new dual-moulded flame piece in the Hungarian Horntail set has been mentioned. The mould itself isn’t new, but the mauve colour at the base where it’s hottest and orange towards the tip where it’s relatively cooler hasn’t been done before. I’ll be looking to get my mitts on that piece.

Megablocking Megablocks... It seems like the purple garmadon helmet has disappeared from pick and build, anyone know if it should come back or if it's likely to be gone for good?

Whilst I still think the highlighting on the moon protector is aqua, I do concede that the white does work well with the figure, I picked up some more the other day, so I now have 13, regular troops (in need of new head gear) in addition to 5 other individuals I threw together to go with their faction as it were, I'm calling them Night Elves, because that sounds better than moon protectors. I was also thinking that if I end up getting the Chang'e set, which part of me wants to, that Chang'e's hair would probably look pretty good with on a night Elf as it would keep up the crescent moon motif.

51978540747_e4352e21b5_z.jpg

Here's the night elf figbarf. From left to right we've got a battle mage, a general (Using the Helmet suggested by AmperZand), The Queen (I did say I wouldn't use the snow queen's pieces but they do work very well with the moon protector), the Queen Consort, An Ambassador and finally a solider (Though I hope to replace the shoulder pads  and helmet with the purple ones showcased by zoth33, and I've given this solider the frightening knight head but all the other will have to use the moon protector head, I'd have like more facial variety but these are all the aqua heads I own (well I do have more of the moon protector head but that's just more of the same). I'll be giving all the soldiers white hand like Classic_Spaceman suggested and I'll post them all here when I've gotten the little platoon all upgraded). I'm thinking I might build them an embassy building (like the Thalmor Embassy from Skyrim) to go in my WIP fantasy town.

I don't know if I'm weird for this but I like to arrange my fantasy minifigs into little factions, so I've decided that the islanders from Ninjago can be the Sun Orcs, in direct opposition to the Night Elves, it is a shame that they're all male but their tusks make for a fun subset of orcs.

I've got about 30 Black Falcon torsos (well most of them are still in the post) and I'm planning on making them into fantasy town guards, so they aren't all gonna be human, some have been given short legs and bears to be dwarves and I've got some of the animal people heads from Chima and Ninjago to add some other more fantastical races to the group. The standard guards have plain black legs and the black falcon torso, whilst the captains have the shoulder armour from the blacksmith set and the proper printed legs to go with the torso, the Commander was given golden arms, golden shoulder armour and the legs from the CMF bard.

There are some interesting new part's in the HP sets, for sure. I hope the red bird and the hats/hairs of Pince and Pomfrey show up on pick and build. I do quite like the whole thermal set but my opinion of the Harry Potter brand has soured of late so I probably won't pick it up unless it gets a decent discount.

I'm quite hopeful that we'll get some thing medievalish in the 90th anniversary CMF, but I guess time will tell.

That's fair enough, different strokes and all that. My biggest gripe with the figure as an individual is that the hairpiece is pretty uninspired, it would've been nice if they given her one with elf ears or even given her both a hairpiece and a helmet, after all the racoon lady from the same series got both.

That’s a great point. If you’re going to go far out, you should go all the way.

Not to be masagonistic or anything, but a female army is less than ideal. It forces some sort of Amazonian thing, which admittedly is a good fit on the night elves idea, which is also cool.

Disclaimer: I love female minifigs, and the female warrior archetype is just fine with me, but if there are no dudes in an army, it’s kinda weird.

They look different, but I still think it is the renders :sceptic: The print looks different as well.. I would loved to get them in more colours, but unfortunately they only included him in the film so small chances we get them in brown etc :def_shrug:

I don't think it's likely to happen but I think for a fantasy race with a unique face design/ skin colour they could have an androgynous torso design and a double sided head with one looking male and the other female. Obviously if if just a yellow human looking head then that's not necessary as you can swap in pretty much any standard head if you want variety.

This torso is now available (in beta in some regions) in the Build-a-mini section of the Lego site (which was mentioned with some more pictures in the Lion Castle rumour thread).

Nice to see some more castle figures (and a shield) available for those without a Lego store nearby.

Cool that it’s going online for those of us that don’t have a Lego store nearby.

There’s a matching (unprinted) skirt piece too.

The green forestman hat is coming back in the new cactus / succulents set. That should help bring the price down.
