I find it an interesting technique for the bow and stern. The sail is nice and smooth, a good improvement on how the sails were build at the 3in1 pirate ship.
An interesting way to depict ravens with the black flippers and horn.

All in all, I'd moc it a bit shorter, remove the cabin and dragon head-and-tail to make it look more like a knarr, a norse merchant ship.

They are cute - hopefully augurs for a moulded crow/Raven soon

Hello, Willie :~)
There was a moulded crow in 2013 albeit as a headgear ornament with a small pin attachment.

We do have the crow from the scarecrow hat from the cmf.  We do need an actual raven we could attach to a stud though.  Lego has been doing a lot of animals and birds so it's plausible to see a raven/crow soon.  A falcon would be nice to have also.

Oh no we don’t count that!

The upcoming HP 76407 FINALLY has some dark green grass bits.

More dark green coming: The new orchid has the big swirly plant thingy in dark green.

I'm curious where else we might see the hair piece with winged circlet/crown… I doubt they'd make a new minifigure hair/headgear mold exclusively for a Creator 3-in-1 set, since those rarely even introduce new molds even for non-minifigure parts, and tend to have relatively little emphasis on minifigures in general. Perhaps it was developed for one of this year's blind bag CMF series that we haven't seen yet.

The sea serpent build has an awesome head build and pretty impressive articulation, though I'll admit I might've preferred if it were smoother and didn't have such large and conspicuous gaps around its joints. After the gorgeous, lifelike designs of so many other large Creator 3-in-1 animals in sets like 31112, 31121, and 31088 this one doesn't quite live up to my expectations for this theme. That said, it definitely does help fill out the scene very nicely.

That one was definitely decent for its time, but I wouldn't mind a newer mold, especially one that can be printed and has more versatile connection points. In any case, I'm glad LEGO's come so far since the 90s when the parrot mold had to stand in for pretty much all species of birds!

Yes the black parrot and the grey parrot were definitely interesting to use as different birds.  The hair piece with the winged crown is really nice piece.  I got the minifig pack with Thor, Valkyrie, and Korg.  The Korg fig is great and the can be used for many things like an ogre or possibly an orc fig.  Valkyrie is a great fig also great for warriors.  There is a new Ninjago poster and the villain weapons look good can't wait to see pics of the sets.

The ship looks nice but price and creature really bring it down. No matter how great the ship build may be but what do you get?

Old ship: 50€, beautiful huge hull and sail molds, printed shields, pretty cool creature.

New ship: 120€, great ship but horrible creature and no prints.

I am fine with the brick built shields but whatever inflation we may have - most people don't earn 70% more than 20 years ago. And it feels like you get "less" for much more money. Especially the technic pieces that weren't colour fixed back then really helped.

I have to disagree with you about the relative quality of the two Midgard Serpent builds! While I'm a little disappointed with this new Midgard serpent's design, I stilll think it's a vast improvement over the one from the Vikings theme (and that's despite being a big fan of Bionicle, which the Vikings theme's creature designs took considerable cues from).

The old Midgard Serpent's body was very knobbly, and got arbitrarily wider or narrower at various points along its length. While an effort was made to smooth its body out using curved wedges on the top and the bottom, its sides were left looking very gappy and unfinished, especially near the front where a Bionicle Rahkshi back plate was awkwardly draped over a blocky System assembly. And many of the old Midgard Serpent's joints were even MORE exposed than those of the new Creator version. The images from this review really showcase these issues.

That's not to discount your points about the difference in price between the two sets, which is definitely pretty stark! But in my eyes, 31132 surpasses 7018 in several areas such as the serpent design, the improved curvature and carvings at the bow and stern, and the much more realistic mast, spars, and rigging. The only areas where I feel 7018 really offers "more" than 31132 are the number of minifigures and oars (there are no oars visible in either the finalized or preliminary images we've seen of 31132, which does worry me since that's a pretty major detail to miss out on).

The Midgard Serpent design (for representing the mythological creature) would have been better served with something like the dragon in 76177 Battle at the Ancient Village, but this is a Creator 3-in-1, so it needs to have parts that would work for other kinds of builds.

Totally different times. LEGO is almost a different company now, so popular that they can charge those prices and enough people will pay to buy what lego can produce.

Seeing how that Viking ship was found in a catalog with a discount on it already, gives me hope it's not as exclusive as the Castle was, and hopefully LEGO will stick to the €100 price as well (both the Castle and Pirate Ship started at 899DKK , only the Pirate ship did get the price increase this year)

As for the ship design, I love it but I'm a big fan of those 3-in-1 colors , LEGO has been using combinations of darkblue/yellow/red/white/brown for multiple years now across many 3-in-1 sets.

The serpent isn't perfect but I can forgive the color mismatch a bit due to the use of Ratchet Joint parts which are mainly made in those darkgrey/black colors.

Can't really see how many weapons or shields the figures will have but there's at least 1 axe visible.

Goat Boat has more useful minifig "shields" (stickered round tiles on holdable shields), the 3-in-1 shields look fine as decoration, but maybe some handle pieces are included to hold them

Something like this:

Wow. The viking ship looks pretty awesome to me. The other builds are phenomenal - Fenrir and a viking hall (or homestead or whatever it is)? How perfect are those for a viking set?

I like it better than anything in the old Vikings line, mainly due to the lack of both Bionicle parts and Knights Kingdom swords. This new set just looks more "Lego" to me.

I like the fully brick built shields. I can deal with the "concessions" to make fit this into the Creator line, such as brick built sails and animals. Different than the cloth sails and molded animals you'd get in a themed set, but to me, good in a different way.

Didn't even realize the colors matched the 3-in-1 Castle until you all pointed it out. They won't look out of place together! This definitely feels like "paying more for less" when compared to the Castle though. The Castle definitely "feels" bigger somehow. I assume the viking ship is just a denser build.

And we get a nice variety of figs too.  I agree with you about the old vikings line having to many bionicle parts.  The dragon for me was just weird and looked out of place with the old viking sets as I have the red dragon.  Lego has come a long way with their builds and dragons.

I don't know.. some of my favourite builds from Lego are creature builds, mostly from Ninjago. But occasionally they bring out some animal that looks like they put 6 blocky sections with grey connector pieces together. To me this looks like one of the worst. The creator tiger for example wasn't perfect but pretty good and hide the technic colours inside.

It's not without reason that I resort to older creature builds and mechs for specialized technic pieces which - back in these days - came in many colours, instead of just grey.

Gee, they even kept the name of the old set: "Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent".  I was expecting something completely generic like "Viking Ship", since 31109 was just "Pirate Ship" and 31120 was just "Medieval Castle".

Must be some of the best/most useful figs in a specific theme to come out from a creator 3-1 set right?
The pirate ship had 3 figs and only one new torso, and the castle had 3 figs and zero new parts.
I have never collected the Vikings line so will not buy the set, but will be interesting to see if the future 3-1 sets will get a slightly better budget so they can include new figs at least or if this was just a one hit wonder :shrug_oh_well:

So is that 3 new unique torsos? Not bad at all. Definitely leveled up this particular offering. Still wish we got the CMF helmet instead of the old horned one, but that's a pretty minor gripe.
