MartinCliffe Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Whereas for me I buy a set that I think looks cool, regardless of how prevalent (or non-existent) it is in the movies etc. If it looks good and has great minifigs that is all I want, I loved the Old Republic & Yoda Chronicles sets (and I know nothing of Old Republic material). Me too, but to prevent people sharing about the legitimate canon sets at the expense of non-canon made-up stuff just seems like bad PR to me. LEGO and Disney / Lucasfilm have shot themselves in the foot so many times recently, it's amazing they can still stand up. Quote
Vectormatic Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Wow, so Lego are doing their own offshoot of SW canon for those sets? That's my interest out the window There is soooo much material both in new canon and Legends that could be tapped for awesome sets, quite a shame for them to ignore all that. Quote

I'm fine with them if they look cool, too, but would prefer if they were based on existing properties (like Old Republic in addition to the films, TCW, Rebels, maybe other Legends material)... I like the prelim of the Scavenger, but not so much the "Sithy Grievous Fighter". I wouldn't even mind another TYC set, tho I'm not sure what it could be besides Ackbar's old ship... Provided they put "OT-era Jek-14" in it. He looked really cool. Quote
Borex Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Well if it's a way to give us figures we still need (missing bounty hunters, cantina folks etc) than i'm all for it. Quote

Robianco Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I'm sure all those that don't care about the new Lego IP and the resulting ban on photography will stop the hissy fits if it does indeed bring any OT or PT characters that we don't otherwise have. Attitudes towards it would change pretty quickly if any of the remaining Bounty Hunters did indeed appear. Who knows that the content of the series would be? If it wasn't for the Yoda Chronicles we wouldn't have the Ithorian Jedi to make Momaw Nadon or the Imperial Protocol Droid for the Sandcrawler. We may very well get something that's basically 4-Lom or Zuckuss or another figure that has an uncanny resemblance to a canon character. They're just leaks. It's the same each year... nobody has the RIGHT to see images if the company doesn't want them to. They'll appear soon enough. Let's not wish that the series fails before it's even started just because you can't see pictures of some sets early. Quote

Richpepperell Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I'm playing devil's advocate here... Although the Lego Adventures sets seem like wasted opportunities for un-produced canon sets to me, my 8 year old son loves both the Jek starfighter and the Jedi Interceptor sets. He see's them on the show, and for him they're just as much Star Wars as a TIE fighter. Maybe his opinion will change as he gets older and appreciates things like canon more, but at the moment, he's pretty happy just building and playing with them. We need to remember that not everyone who will be buying the sets is a 40 year old AFOL who gets distressed about the wrong shade of green being used for Yodas hands (like I do!) Quote

Honestly though, I think that's in spite of the sets being non-canon, not because of it. Sure, the new sets won't sell terribly if they look good enough (parents with no interest in SW will just buy them for their children anyway), but it's not like a comparable OT/PT/Rebels set would. darththeling Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Eyewitness reports to confirm elements of these sets until pictures leak is the best we're going to get. Are there any specific questions we can ask to those in attendance? Sabine: Does she come with blue hair, helmet, or both? Rex: How do they handle his beard - printed or Santa Claus piece? Any familiar faces in the Story Time Adventures (shudder) series? Describe the structures in the Jakku Encounter. Does it include the Hutt-styled gate to the outpost? Anyway - anyone with Nuremberg eyes that can help us out would be 'pitty hot' to put it as Jar Jar might. Quote

That's what we're all forgetting. End of the day it's still oriented towards kids and AFOL comes second. I'm not happy about the new material and think the timing was pretty poor, given how much is going on in Star Wars right now. But if Yoda Chronicles did well then they will follow up that success to their top market. Plus, who knows what agreements with Disney XD or Cartoon Network or whoever airs the shows have in place. I'm just disappointed that EP VII will probably end up being neglected a bit as they roll into RO and VIII. Quote

I'm just disappointed that EP VII will probably end up being neglected a bit as they roll into RO and VIII. To be fair Episode VII just doesn't have that many vehicles you could turn into sets. Even the first wave had several that were just rehashes of OT stuff (Falcon, X-Wing, TIE) and with Takodana, the Resistance Transport and Encounter on Jakku realized I really don't see too many possibilities there. (Of course the FO Star Destroyer looks nice, but capital ships always get neglected.) Quote
Robianco Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I think having the Falcon, TIE Fighter, 2 X Wings, Resistance Transporter, Kylo Ren's Shuttle, FO Transporter, Snowspeeder, Rey's Speeder along with Takodana, Jakku settlement and the micro fighters to give us a few extra, cheap figures they've pretty much covered most of it. We'll get the FO Star Destroyer at some point but there's another two films for that to appear in. If they brought it out now then where do they go from there? Starkiller Base was actually a planet with a big gun built inside it so even getting certain scenes such as the duel would have given repeat figures. The timing certainly does seems strange when looking at The ST, Spin Offs, Rebels as well as the PT and OT but they have a long term plan for what is coming out and when so as much as I'm (I'm)patiently waiting for more Cloud City sets I think they'll just come if and when they see fit and not regardless of whether they have two sets from a new IP coming out. If you asked everybody that walked into a Lego store whether they wanted two sets from Bespin or two new ships with new characters almost every kid in there would ask for the new ships whereas the AFOLs among us would probably want Bespin. We'd be outnumbered and as such we just have to wait. Quote

We'd be outnumbered and as such we just have to wait. Yeah we basically have a solid line up from TFA except for the scene from the end with Rey in her Resistance outfit and Luke. Now that I think about it, we've gotten everyone off the theatrical poster except for R2, who already exists. The only ship we didn't get off the theatrical poster was the Star Destroyer and Starkiller Base. So... Well played LEGO... Well played. Quote
markw Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Yeah i think the sets are pretty comprehensive, aside from the obvious exceptions Luke and Snoke, who will be explored more later i'm sure. Buying all the sets would result in a pretty comprehensive First Order and Resistance army, even if the 'neutrals' are under-represented, we still got Tasu and his mate, Unkar and his thugs, Teedo and Maz. pittpenguin123 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Some pages back someone said Unkar plutt is tall, that's super incorrect, he is perfectly average height.. thats because Scotty (Actor from star trek, i forgot his real name.) is shorter that is off camera, they had him taller ONLY SLIGHTLY taller then rey. but because he is barely a size difference lego will do the same as pong krell. make him twice as tall, even though they are slightly taller then humans Quote

Also Besalisks were generally taller than humans. There is no reason whatsover for TLG to make Unkar taller than normal minifig. He is fat, but not tall. Edited January 27, 2016 by Vodnik Quote
falderal Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 People probably think Plutt is tall because Rey had to look up at him in his hut. But he's probably standing on a raised platform there. http://imgur.com/rYRroKB Quote

But I was hoping lego would make a new torso mold like this http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/legostarwars/images/9/95/Imgres-pong_krell.jpeg/revision/latest?cb=20121104184031 Lego did get the scale to wrong. heck every figure of the guy the scale is wrong they make him twice the size, as you can see here he is only half a head bigger. I still think lego will never give us a Dex People probably think Plutt is tall because Rey had to look up at him in his hut. fighterpilot105 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) I have high expectations for Unkar's minifig. Hopefully they get the scale right... Also looking forward for a potential new head mold for Teedo! Unkar will most probably have a big role in Rey's past so we will definitely see more of him in episodes 8 and 9. It's crucial for LEGO to get him right! *fingers crossed* Edited January 27, 2016 by fighterpilot105 Quote
Robianco Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I don't actually think Unkar will have much significance to Rey at all in the future films. He just happened to run the trading post. If they never go back to Jakku (and who's to say they will?) there's no reason for him to make another appearance in the trilogy. Maybe in some flashbacks to Rey's childhood but I think there's enough to develop in Rey's training to suggest they don't need to bring it up too much. Quote

Robianco Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Are we going to see a new SW UCS this year? Any hope for a new death star? Apparently one is on the way. There should be at least two UCS SW sets this year. Maybe a third if we get the Hoth / Death Star / Snowspeeder sets that have been rumoured. Quote
