tman684 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I still dont get why people are so obsessed with this theory. Plaigus is dead, the new main evil guy is called Snoke, they did an all new cast and it wouldnt make sense to create a useless tie to a simple mention in one of the prequels. And even if it may be possible, does it even matter if he would be? Have you read the book? Plagueis is such an awesome character, I think most fans want more from him. The book really does an excellent job explaining why everything happens the way it does in the prequels, it really ties everything together. So it woukd be really awesome if he could tie together the sequels too! Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) The funny thing is, they could please both fans and casual viewers alike by revealing Snoke as Plagueis. They don't even have to drop his name, simply refering to him as Palpatine's former master would set up a lot about him, just by implication alone Of course people care more about the main characters, but you simply can't mess up the Big Bad. Sucky villains don't work in favor of movies I don't say that Snoke would be a bad or unworthy villain if he didn't turn out to be Plagueis (I actually really liked him in TFA), but it'd be a huge missed opportunity. As I've said, they'd have to come up with a very satisfying explanation who he is and why he hasn't shown up before. That's the thing with adding new villains to huge franchises: you need to explain where they come from and why they're a bigger threat than what came before them. That's why it's usually someone from the past that was thougt to be dead (Sauron in LOTR, Voldemort in HP etc.). Regarding the AT-TE pictures: one of them showed the set itself, the other featured the box Edited January 31, 2016 by Lego-Freak Quote
markw Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I would love for Snoke to be Plagueis, and don't see it as a cheesy tie in to the PT that some do (remember this is a universe where Vader built 3PO, and every Clone Trooper is Boba Fett's twin...) I bet your more casual Star Wars fan can't even remember him from one reference in ROTS. - Snokes musical score was sufficiently similar to the Mon Cal opera when Palpatine told the story. - Darth Plagueis The Wise, I'm sure Kylo dropped in a couple of times in TFA about how wise Snoke is. I just like the idea that this guy is the mastermind behind everything, proper super villain territory, not just some chancer who popped up to take advantage when Palpatine threw a seven into the reactor core. Remember ROTS didn't even set Plagueis up as Palpatines master, Palpatine never actually admitted he was the apprentice who killed his master. Quote
BigEl Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I actually think people are just overthinking it with Plaigus/Snoke because they just want it to be Plaigus and not because it seems to be likely. Fact is: Palpatine said he killed him, Snokes Name is Snoke and its a new trilogy so going for as many new characters as possible makes sense. Quote
Venkefedo Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Have you read the book? Plagueis is such an awesome character, I think most fans want more from him. The book really does an excellent job explaining why everything happens the way it does in the prequels, it really ties everything together. So it woukd be really awesome if he could tie together the sequels too! The book is non-canon tho (despite the elements the same author put into the canon "Tarkin" novel), and the readership is still a drop in the bucket of the moviegoing audience. One of the justifications for Snoke being Plagueis in this thread (and others) is who could top Palpatine but the guy who trained him? Palpatine is not Sauron, a demigod who once served the god Morgoth. He's a Sith Lord who replaced his master in a long-standing tradition. His apprentice should top him, as Vader had the potential to do so (Palpatine said it himself to Yoda). Palps was the big bad of two trilogies... His master shouldn't be the big bad of the third. It makes both look like chumps for different reasons. Palpatine's story about Plagueis was probably mostly a lie to lure Anakin with "powers" the Jedi don't possess. Back to the sets, I'd hoped we'd see something more like this for the clones in the AT-TE Quote

Yup, the novel actually made me look somewhat favorably at Ep I, knowing what is going on behind the scenes, leading up to the movie etc.. really adds to the story I'd love a set with Plagueis, he would make a good addition to my collection of sith lords Quote
madroskylo77 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 OH sure talking about the pricing of sets distracts from the purpose of this thread, but a page and a half of discussing whether or not Snoke is Plagueis is completely relevant... Anyway, do you guys believe that NYTF will reveal any news regarding this year's UCS sets? Quote
Delta66 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I hope so, want to see the Death Star so badly- but tbh more excited to get rogue 1 sets later in the year. I really want snoke to be plagueis because it'll make the entire saga link together as a whole- plus if it turns out he's a new character it just makes palpatine look irrelevant and he loses his power as a villain. Plus, as mentioned before, you wouldn't need to have to read into lore too much. Just a simple reference to snoke being palpatine's disillusioned master would sufice. Quote
Brick Capone Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) "Plagueis is Supreme Leader Snoke" could be a possibility, but really, if you support this theory or not, there is evidence BOTH to de-bunk it AND to support the theory. We will only know the truth of Snoke's identity as time goes on (in Episode 8 and 9), and we should just leave it at that, until then. "We shall see..." -Supreme Leader Snoke, Episode 7. Fact is: Palpatine said he killed him, Snokes Name is Snoke and its a new trilogy so going for as many new characters as possible makes sense. Well, it is likely... at least under the premise that Snoke is a character we've seen or heard about before TFA Of course, he could as well be an entirely new character, but where's the surprise in that? There'd be nothing to reveal about him except for a backstory they have to make up (and it has to be a darn good one at that). You could technically make the same argument for Kylo Ren (him being a new character and all), but he fits because he's the son of two characters we know very well, a perfect set-up IMO. If he was just some random dude, I'd have the same complaint about him Unless Snoke is a relative to someone we know, but that'd be megablocking dumb @Venkefedo: I agree, that beard fits perfectly (at least for Rex). Maybe the clone commander figs will look better once we get close-up pictures, it's pretty hard to judge them fairly now Quote
legolandia Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) @BigEl: Of course it would matter If Snoke was a brand-new character, they'd have to get really creative about his backstory, since he was active during the rise and fall of the empire, as the novelisation states. So what was he doing all this time? If he was Plagueis, it'd immediately explain a huge junk of that (recovering from his "death", waiting for a chance to overthrow his treacherous ex-pupil etc). Importantly, it's also the only way to top Palpatine, who has been the evil overlord behind everything that happened between Epi. I and VI. Who's the only one that could be more evil and powerful than Palpatine? The one who trained him It wouldnt be very difficult for the brilliant writers involved in Star Wars to come up with some very brilliant ideas to build up Snoke's backstory. In fact I want that to be the case and we get some good new stories. And I am not sure that Plagueis is the only way to top Palpatine. Palpatine is dead and some other Sith lord (Snoke) that has been getting stronger in hiding takes his place. Snoke doesnt have to be stronger than Palpatine. He just needs to be stronger than the potential Siths that may be scattered around the galaxy. In Sith history the student becomes more powerful and/or cunning than the master and that is how they manage to overthrow the master in the first place. So I'm not sure your last sentence stands true. And finally why do people make the assumtion that Snoke may be Plagueis? It is as plausible that Snoke could be a fallen jedi knight turned sith. Or he could belong to a Sith faction that doesnt believe in the rule of 2 and so on, and so on.... Edited January 31, 2016 by legolandia Quote
Lobot Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 As interesting as the recent discussion have been about Snoke etc, please can we stay on target And, thanks for the news about Rogue 1, Jedi-Bendu. I'm quite looking forward to see what TLG do with it, especially if it's closely aligned with the OT era.... Quote
Ellisss_ Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 It could possibly be Plagueis although I highly doubt it. The possibility being that Palpatine mentions that he can bring things back to life so maybe he did this process to himself. Although it is probably a whole new character!!! Quote
Robianco Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Apologies for possibly being the cause of the slight derailment. My comment about Plageius was more of a throwaway thing rather than thinking it's actually true. There's so much for the writers to work with besides them being able to create something totally new and mindblowingly creative and... apt... that it doesn't matter who he is or isn't. With regards to that image of Slave 1 for RO I definitely think it's more a placeholder based on spin-offs in general and Boba Fett is one of the spin-offs so it would make sense... sort of... even if not directly accurate for this movie. The more I look at the Toy Fair images that looks like Dengar so much I'm wondering how it could be anyone else... and having anybody from the OT in those sets could open a world of opportunities for that line. Maybe the clone commander figs will look better once we get close-up pictures, it's pretty hard to judge them fairly now It's not just the beard, tho, but the skin tone. I used Panaka's head and matching arms (tho I'd much prefer "short-sleeve" arms, same skin tone but with the sleeves as either black, white, or blue). It's as disappointing that the obviously-darker skin of the clones isn't represented in the figures as it is that Tarkin, gray-uniformed Tarkin, has a dark tan Lego uniform because of one bad decision they refuse to back away from. Edit: it IS Dengar! You see him in the video showing the lineup of characters, in the smaller second row behind the first row. Mostly the same as the last figure, but with the bandage headgear from the CMF Clumsy Guy. Edited January 31, 2016 by Venkefedo Quote

Sucram Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Fantastic, I think I'll hold fire with my money until then- would really love some opportunities to pick up some original trilogy stormtroopers like the ones from the super star destroyer, they're so hard to find on eBay! In the mean time I was thinking of picking up a TFA set from last year to go with my tie fighter, would yous recommend the transport of the shuttle? or even the final duel (not TFA) Definitely the transporter. The shuttle is very innacurate. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Maybe the clones aren't final either. The minifigs all look final to me, no prototype parts or anything like that to be seen After giving that video a closer look, I have to say that I'm really content with what I'm seeing. The skin colour of the clones is somewhat inaccurate, that's true, but they had to keep it consistent with previous clone minifigs. There's only thing that bothers me (and others have noticed this too) and that's Teedo's height. They probably gave him normal legs so he can properly sit on his Luggabeast rather than standing on it, but he really should have short legs nonetheless. The printing's nice, I admit that, but he looks quite weird that way (about as weird as a Jawa with normal legs, try it and see for yourselves ). Edited January 31, 2016 by Lego-Freak Quote

x105Black Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 It would be so much better if Snoke was a completely new character. There's no reason to try to tie back to the Prequels. And it has been said by multiple people involved in the character's creation that he is a completely new character. I agree that the clones should have a better, truer skin tone. Quote
madroskylo77 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I find it a bit careless on the designer's part not to take notice of things like skin tone, etc. ...Unless it's an inventory thing, and they are forced to use whatever parts they already have just to get rid of them, which would explain things like the tan pieces in the newest hoth set. On an unrelated matter, I was wondering if the new Luggabeast model will somehow incorporate the fact that the actual thing is part animal, part armor/machine...I really wish it they would use some kind of dewback type figure..though it's seems kind hard to pull that off.
