nymmerod Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I guess 75138 is totally redundant now except for Han's hood piece. And the probe droid I suppose. Quote
Forresto Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Maybe...just maybe it'll look better in person when pictures from the toy fair start popping up. $250 is steep but perhaps there will be some good exclusive mini figure prints that will make this set suddenly more desirable. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I guess one upside to this set is that Lego has absolutely no reason to release Hoth sets for a good long while now. Quote
lomis Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I guess 75138 is totally redundant now except for Han's hood piece. And the probe droid I suppose. Exactly. I'm not sure about getting 75138 now since I'm guaranteed to get 75098. Quote
analogkid81 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I wish they did the interior of Echo Base. Could have done the hanger, bacta tank, and command center. Would have been nicer as a cohesive UCS play set. This just feels like a mash up of previous sets. Quote
DarthPotato Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I actually really like the scaled down Ion Cannon and Shield Generator, but I think those would have worked better as their own cheaper sets. This set as a whole isn't really worth it. Most people who are still interested in Hoth stuff probably have all of the recent sets, so this isn't really anything new. I appreciate the amount of figures and Rebel soldiers that are included though. Quote

Would have been nicer as a cohesive UCS play set. This just feels like a mash up of previous sets. That is what I was expecting. I was hoping when they said "modular" it would mean they took the design concepts from their modular series and give that treatment to the whole Echo Base. Do everything, every room, ect. Instead, they did this terrible mashup and slapped a UCS title on it to justify the price. There isn't even an AT-AT! How can you have the battle of Hoth without at least 1 AT-AT?! Quote
Airbenderfreak Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 What the hell was LEGO thinking? The Hoth set was completely unnecessary. And if that wasn't bad enough, the Clone Turbo Tank is just awful. I had the lowest of expectations and I am still disappointed. On the bright side, however, the two Force Awakens sets and two Freemakers sets are great, but Darth Vader's TIE Fighter is just okay. Quote
Tariq j Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 The minifigure line is the highlight of the set... I can see how Lego have tried to include all the aspects of Hoth in one large set... But for me it doesn't work, the shield generator, Ion Cannon and Wampa Cave are all good aspects. But the trench at the front doesn't make much sense seeing as the smaller Hoth set released earlier this year pretty much covered that. Quote
nymmerod Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 On a positive note, it looks to me like the first Major Derlin minifig to have the correct torso pattern. Quote
Sir von Lego Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Looks like a rectangular box. We won't see a 150 EUR set for Rogue One in Germany, must be an error... Like, 4 years ago. This one will probably have updated printing. Quote

Honestly, if they just included about double the minifgures so it looked like an actual Imperial Assault and Rebel Defense Force, that might make up for the rest. Mainly needs more Storm Troopers and Rebel Troopers. It would still be a lacking set but at least you would get a ton of Minifigs for the cost. Edited February 12, 2016 by Tech Artist Quote
DarthBrickus Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Well, that's a pretty disappointing conclusion. Looks like a mish mash of old 40$-sets. Quote
Forresto Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) I'm happy actually because now that they have UCS Return of the Jedi and Empire Strikes Back sets, the likelihood of new one from A New Hope (Mos Eisley *fingrs crossed*) or one from TFA have shot up exponentially. Now those could be exciting! Edited February 12, 2016 by Forresto Quote
Tech Artist Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 List of all Hoth Sets: http://brickset.com/sets/list-1084 These 4 stick out as being in this new set: 7749: Echo Base 7666: Hoth Rebel Base 8089: Hoth Tampa Cave 8084: Snowtrooper Battle Pack Quote
markw Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Yeah the doesn't have the wow factor of a UCS set in the same way as Slave I or even Ewok Village. I guess I was hoping for something along the lines of a flattened out Deathstar with a central hangar and lots of snowy tunnels and command centre/ Medbay. I count 15 minis, 6 of which appear to be generic rebels (possible Brenn Derlin) and 2 snow troopers. Plus Han and Luke, Toryn Farr, 2 new speeder pilots, K3PO and new astromech. Plus the large scale figs that don't appear to have changed. Quote
DarthBrickus Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Plus the large scale figs that don't appear to have changed. Which is a good thing, as those have always been pretty much perfect anyway Quote
Richpepperell Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 One thing I really wish they'd done with a hoth set is make the trench section an actual trench rather than a snow wall. I know it would take a lot more pieces, but it would be cool to have a low section below ground level rather than a barricade style section. Quote
Junior Shark Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Rampant rumormongering? Toryn Farr's legs (http://i59.tinypic.com/1fajr9.jpg) look to be the Imperial leg print (http://brickset.com/minifigs/sw632, http://brickset.com/minifigs/sw693) but newly in white. Lego just getting mileage from that print, or a portent of white-uniformed Imperials to come? Quote
Tjahzi Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Am I the only one who likes the new UCS set, apart from the price? Will be great to combine it with my 7879 Echo Base. Quote
Forresto Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Am I the only one who likes the new UCS set, apart from the price? Will be great to combine it with my 7879 Echo Base. Well if you really love Hoth this is probably a fantastic set despite the price point. Another tauntaun as well as plenty of troopers and setpieces. Its not a terrible set, its just nota proper UCS and thus is really an overpriced super set. Quote
miles teg Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Here it is: *snip* So it is UCS after all (check the emblem)... What? £200 for THAT ??!? That is rubbish. No offence, but that is embarrassing that they are asking that amount for that. The old Echo Base looked more impressive than this. And most of the figs are generic snow troopers. I REALY don't see how they can call this ucs Edited February 12, 2016 by Lobot : Please don't quote images, thanks :-) Quote
mediumsnowman Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 The set itself looks pretty good, but it's not really anything we haven't seen before. I also think it's priced a bit too high. $200 or even $220 would be more reasonable. Has Lego ever released a set with a $220 price point? Quote
belkor Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I guess 75138 is totally redundant now except for Han's hood piece. And the probe droid I suppose. For those not willing or unable to part with 250 Euro, a couple of those sets will go very nicely with the AT-ST coming out later this year. Quote
