Lobot Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I'm a little disappointed to be honest, it just looks like a series of playsets merged together. I was hoping that TLG would make the main hanger and blast doors a decent size but, as many predicted, they have wasted a lot of the part count on pointless add-ons like the snowspeeder and wampa 'cave' Perhaps it will look better in the official photos; but the Ewok Village is suddenly looking a lot more interesting! I'm guessing that it will be £200 in the UK; I certainly won't be buying one if it's above that. Quote
Devizz Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) If anyone wants a detailed look at the new UCS set here it is: They've shown EXACTLY this set over half a year ago and funnily enough people did not realize it since it is so similar to older hoth sets. With that being said, I am quite happy with it since I don't own any of the older sets and will definitely get the new one. Edited February 12, 2016 by Devizz Quote
Robert8 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 That's the most meh set in a long time Quote
Devizz Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I am still waiting for that Rebels Ahsoka set, definitely top 1 on my to buy list. Also, I have high hopes for a big Rebels sith temple/malachor set as seen in the new season 2 trailer. If they do make one though it will probably appear in the next wave and not the summer one. Quote
Borex Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I think the set is ok-ish. Though it definitely needed the bacta-tank and the medical droid too. For the Hoth aficionado it is cool to have the generator and ion-canon finally, and some new hoth-peoples. With all Hoth-sets combined i think you really can make a nice diorama. And now the only Hoth-related set we should allow from Lego is a Rebel Transport ship. Quote
Junior Shark Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) @ Devizz: Actually, that video's old news. People have been reporting on it since it came out: http://brickset.com/article/15703. But yes, it is frustratingly similar to old Hoth sets. Folks were just holding out hope that the video didn't depict the set in its entirety. As to your Sith temple set idea, you can discuss it to your heart's content in this preexisting thread: http://www.eurobrick...pic=107233&st=0. Edited February 12, 2016 by Junior Shark Quote
Darth Kylo Ren Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 It's very funny people don't realize that it is ASSAULT on Hoth and not Echo Base Quote
kylosuperfan Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Big time let down. No issue passing on this one. Quote
L E G O Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 That's the most meh set in a long time Absolutely meh. Quote
Cyberfounder Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Didn't this set say, "it will be a challenge for veteran builders"??? Goodness, this is as I feared... The set in the video some time back was not a joke, it was the real deal. etc etc   I just can't stop expressing my disappointment. I expected so much more after the ewok village. Not buying this, certainly not for €250. Edited February 12, 2016 by Cyberfounder Quote
SeucheCave Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Maybe there will be another set with the base itself, with the bacta tank, the med droid and the missing hoth leia.... Quote
Forresto Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 It's very funny people don't realize that it is ASSAULT on Hoth and not Echo Base They invaded echo base though. Half of the battle of Hoth is Snowtroopers rushing through the corridors including a deleted scene where a bunch get eaten by a wampa. Not only that but in the new Battlefront game a good portion of the Hoth map is in fact Echo Base Quote
BigEl Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) It's very funny people don't realize that it is ASSAULT on Hoth and not Echo Base Call it what you will, its neither good as Echo Base nor Assault on Hoth. If it would be Echo Base than all of the interior is missing, as "Assault on Hoth" where is the assault, seriously? 2 Snowtrooper, 1 Speeder Bike and a stationary laser MG? No AT-AT or AT-ST? Well that counts for an amazing ASSAULT worthy of "UCS" label and prize right? Btw, where is the connection between the Imperial Assault and the Wampa Cave scene? The point I am trying to make is that the name doesnt matter at all. This is supposed to be a general UCS Hoth Theme Set, and as that it just fails miserably in my opinion. CMP Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 They invaded echo base though. Half of the battle of Hoth is Snowtroopers rushing through the corridors including a deleted scene where a bunch get eaten by a wampa. There's like thirty seconds of footage of Snowtroopers in the base. They arrive with Vader, they set up an E-Web to shoot at the Falcon...and that's it. The overwhelming majority of that battle is just Snowspeeders. Quote
x105Black Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 That set is disappointing. As for the Wampa and Tauntaun, on one hand I was hoping for updates (at least an updated Wampa), but on the other hand my wallet appreciates that they appear to be the same ones I got just recently. Quote

There were 40 seconds and you know it :P Haha alright you got me Pie. Still there was fighting inside so theres some precedent for the set to be totally interior. Quote
Richpepperell Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Anyone got any ideas what sort of time we might start seeing NY toy fair images? Quote
ryan1584 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) As someone who only started collecting in 2012 this set gives me a lot of things I have been wanting, though I understand why others are so upset. For me the biggest disappointment is that the set contains no Bacta Tank, Med Droid or Bacta Luke. If the previous set containing those is as awful as most seem to think I should be able to pick it up pretty cheap, right? Edited February 12, 2016 by ryan1584 Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I don't know what to think about this set. They could have added a better build and decease the amount of minifigures. I honestly wasn't expecting this set to be great in the first place. Quote

If the previous set containing those is as awful as most seem to think I should be able to pick it up pretty cheap, right? Why is everyone so disappointed? The "missing" figures have all been available previously in sets that were also heavily discounted after poor sales. Toys R Us in the UK were selling the old 7879 Echo base for 60 pounds last year. It's not in Lego's interest as a company to provide everything in one set at the same time else we'd all stop collecting. As for improved Rebel helmets I'm hoping for some consistency between the pilots rather than having to update all the time. The grey snowspeeder helmet from last year is especially annoying Edited February 12, 2016 by fitbin Quote
neoconagenda Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Its almost like they are trying to underwhelm with this set. Maybe they are attempting to lower our expectations so that the next UCS seems better. Honestly I think the only thing worse than this set would have been a new UCS MF with 50 less pieces than the original... Quote
Bolingbroke Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 With this set and the upcoming adam west batcave, it's clear lego has totally lost tge plot. Quote

This doesn't even look like a 2100 piece set, let alone a UCS set. Yep, should have gone with a UCS AT-AT. Edited February 12, 2016 by Schneeds Quote
Markalus Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I was expecting disappointment but that doesn't make it any easier to swallow. What were they thinking? It says it's modular but it's not, it's just a collection of various builds that don't interlock. The design is lazy with no real innovation. The shield generator is basically half round plates slapped together. The Wampa and cave looks just like the previous versions. Even though they don't show it on the box art that blast door looks all kinds of ugly from the rear with exposed technic pieces in technicolor. The "assault" aspect is terribly misrepresented as the imperials are only represented by two snow troopers and a speeder bike vs. a plethora of rebels. They should have dropped the Wampa scene altogether and included an AT-ST at the very least (AT-AT would be too many parts) to even up the battle. Let's not forget the rebels were overrun in this scene! Maybe it should have been called "Defense on Hoth". Color me disappointed but even the box art looks uninspiring compared to large and UCS sets of late; think Slave 1, Tie Fighter or in other themes...Ghostbusters HQ, Temple of Airjitsu. Quote

I remember making a joke of this saying 'imagine if this was the new Hoth UCS set'. Quote
