Yeah, it's getting old. Especially when considering that we've seen everything this set has to offer more than half a year ago

About what date is the May the Fourth promo minifig usually announced?

Well, announcement date and reveal date usually aren't identical  Officially, they're announced in the May store catalogue (which gets released in early April) but thus far, the info has always leaked earlier (mainly through factory leaks). I'm expecting news quite soon :classic: Unless the First Order General turns out be the promo fig, but that'd be incredibly lame

I hope we get TFA Luke with his hood. A new dark tan hood and cape would look really good, with a white torso and legs with tan and dark tan printing.

That'd be great! I've got a dark bley hood & cape on mine, but dark tan would work better. White & tan should be the bulk of his body printing for sure.

Yeah, I'm also hoping for a TFA Luke with a dark tan hood  Some say that TLG may be reluctant to release Luke now because the outfit probably won't change much in Episode VIII robbing the promo figure of its exclusivity, but if the minifig sports a hood that'd give it at least some semblance of exclusivity (unless Luke continues to regularly wear his ominous hood after returning from exile ). It's not like pseudo-exclusivity has been an issue before *cough* 2013 Hoth Han *cough*

Don't forget that clone lieutenant!

Quit mocking hoth. What did you expect. I keep seeing people say its just older sets, thats because they did every set for hoth they basically can. And some people say its not fully enclosed because it should be at that price, Where you expecting a whole diorama? I dont get it some people even say it should have a scale at at with the price it is. It would cost so so so so so much more if it was like that.

It is because most of the people here cannot decide wishes and reality. It is obvious that never ever a set like this will include an AT-AT.

But we see this every damn year when people are speculating here about rumors: too much minifigs in EVERY SINGLE post, wrong price "wishes" etc etc...

But there is always hope...

I never mocked the Hoth set. I merely felt that the set would be more accurately described as a Three-In-One rather than as an Ultimate Collector's Series. There looks to be nothing remotely challenging or ultimate in the building out of a bunch of small vignettes.

Posted

Yeah, the "Hoth Mock" is because it is being marketed as a challenging build UCS display piece, which is rubbish. If it were not marketed as such, there would be less negativity towards the set.

So leave us be to mock! And moc.

Im not a fan of those new panels for the wings/fins either...

Me neither. Actually now that I typed that out, they'd be an okay option for a "car busted through highway barrier" kinda use. Or other kinda "wreckage" style models, as if it was originally a symmetrical rounded rectangle style panel. Or maybe kind of a electronics board use. I dunno. May grow on me, but it struck me as more of a cheaty single part than other new parts usually do. I'm not somebody to complain about "Legos used to only be 2 kinds of pieces, kids these day, etc." but this one's just not my thing.

I leave for a couple days, come back only to find that we're still complaining about Hoth. Give it a rest. Perhaps be grateful you're saving money.

I wonder if it is just an april fools joke... How much effort did the designer really have to put into this... Basically 90% is just copied from other sets, and the remaining 10% is not exactly rocket science...

Perhaps its because they dialed it in for this set...

Endor was good, it was different to what we have had in the past and it was big in scale too.

Hoth on the other hand appears to have reused alot of sets over the past few years, its not what the did, more what they didn't do.

For instance no snow based AT-ST as per the movie, yet another snow speeder when one came out last year. We currently have a hoth pack out at the moment so this makes little sense to include a bigger version of what already exists in a set. Lego could have easily left that out and included other elements such as more imperial troopers (2 is hardly a battle), AT-ST as mentioned above, perhaps a bigger control centre, a med bay...

It just feels a little light on (like the penguins offence under Johnson prior to Sullivans appointment) for a UCS set... its hardly the Endor or Sandcrawler and that is what it is being compared to, fairly.

Hopefully the second half of the year we get better sets and the UCS Snowspeeder hits it out of the park.

I don't know. So far, I have not come across one that expects a AT-AT to be in this set. AT-ST I have seen, but not AT-AT.

For system scale sets, a number of people do care about minifigs. For UCS, not so much, but they do care about stickers though.

I think it's fair to comment that the opinion of this set is mostly negative, and these are not comments from one day old forum goers. While it is true that some may still acquire it, a more than usual number wouldn't.

You will surprise to see pricing, while often as a point of discussion, are not the biggest inhibitors to acquiring a UCS set. Look at the aftermarket of a UCS set vs a regular set, the evidence is there. Hence the term " wishes " in pricing, just a hope that things will be more managable.

The biggest issues like so many have point out, is that it is essentially several older and current sets combined into one. Yes, sure if you start collecting 2015, you wouldn't mind that. But a lot of the long stayers have several similar and different iterations of hoth sets, and Hoth is regarded as one of the better scenes, and ESB is one the better OT movies (IMO). So when a UCS set comes out for the first time of Hoth, expectations ran high, but were greeted with " lolwut?" And many of the long stayers are not just collecting, they build them too, and forseeably if they go about building this set, that special feeling of something new is going to go away real fast. And the final product is likely not worth displaying too, sitting beside the other UCS greats.

I hope that the pictures and videos are wrong and deceiving, but it's looking less and less so. Without the UCS badge, it is simply a glorified and larger Hoth playset, and by that, mark it down by another USD20, remove the badge, it will likely sell tons better.

By the way, yes this means we can save buying this for a future UCS Set, but we all know its just self-consolation. It's like when you break up, someone tells you a better one will come along... thanks eh

Hopefully some changes can be tweaked (there is still time TLG!).

Anyway, the Alderaan set is really funny. maybe that certain someone could bring in a shot of 7666, 7749, 75014 and the 8089 all in one, and compare it with this set

Why do people want TFA Luke so much as the May the 4th promo fig? We'll be getting him in 2017 anyway, it's sort of like when we got Hoth Han, only for him to be released a few years later, it makes the promo figure feel less special and exclusive.

The best figures have been ones you wouldn't expect to get in sets in my opinion, like TC-14, TC-3 and Yularen.

There are so many characters I'd like to see more than Luke because I'm happy to wait for him. I don't really watch the PT, but there are so many examples from the OT and ST. Hobbie or Ozzel would fit in with the Hoth set, Jerjerrod, Motti, Tagge and Needa as unique Imperial Officers. Or how about Beru Lars? Or Jessika Pava or one of the many Resistance/FO commanders for TFA?

I wonder why people bother to get the promo figures, they are made out of Chinese plastic and are prone to cracks and discoloration.

I'd love to see the evidence of how promo figures crack or break more than other figures rather than it being anecdotal evidence. I've never had a 'Chinese made' part, be it minifig part or brick, crack or break... in fact I've never had a part crack or break wherever it's made from.

Unfortunately I've only got around 500-700 minifigures and over a hundred or more sets so maybe I don't buy enough Lego to be able to tell. :shrug_confused:

I've picked up every promo figure from Star Wars and Superheroes to date and never had an issue whether they've been in a polybag, limited release cube, DVD insertion etc...

Agreed, i dont have a fetish for pure old school bricks, but if they replace the old style brick construction but manage to still make the custom part look inaccurate for some reason, that is disappointing

They might be very nice for other themes/sets, but as A-wing stabilizers? nah

Well it happen to me a few times, maybe jou just don't have a big collection of Chinese plastic then. I can tell from my kingdoms collection, that the pieces are more prone to breaking, especially the legs, and don't get me started on the discoloration. :hmpf_bad:

Making Old Luke the May the 4th figure would bug the heck out of me, as I'm not someone who regularly drops $75 at the Lego Store just to get a freebie. He's a critical figure to the story even if he's only on screen for a minute, so to make him that inaccessible to the public would be very bothersome. Contrast that with C-3PO, who yes, is a minor character in the movie, but also very important and is at least reasonably available to the public when compared to a $75 bonus.

So, I'm going to keep hoping that he's a pack-in with that "Chronicles of the Force" book.

That's a really good idea. I hope he would show up there instead actually because LEGO would be able to release another minfigure as well.
