CM4Sci Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Hmm... I think there's a tiny chance we could see both the Disney Castle and the Death Star by the end of the month. Quote
Richpepperell Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Hey wait, when's that? It's in two weeks time, 15th -17th. I'm really hoping for a big reveal there! Quote
ltzik Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) http://www.groovebri...tart-confirmed/ Here it said:"From that we can infer that the piece count will be well over 1,000 and the price might border $200-$250 USD. Nonetheless, remember to take this with a grain of salt". It's from December and I don't know the reliability of this source, but if the price is 200-250 dollars it's a pretty big disappointment for me. Can't wait for the reveal to decide whether or not buying the 10188. Edited July 3, 2016 by ltzik Quote

Can't wait for the reveal to decide whether or not buying the 10188. Is this real?! $200-250??? That's the same price as 75098! I really hope the new DS isn't a turkey, I can't see how they'll be able to do it justice as this price point, I had/have my hopes on a 10188 update. Quote
sahidko Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) Come on - the article is from december 2015. Both the piece count and price estimate is only derived from the fact it's an UCS set. Nothing more. Edited July 3, 2016 by sahidko Quote
Kman860 Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 I believe it was Amazingbricks that said "the new DS is bigger and better". Quote
JekPorkchops Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Well better is subjective, but if it's bigger it'll probably only have a few hundred more pieces while costing around 100 (enter your currency here) more. Quote

Amazing Bricks Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Notice how it says,"the price might border." Then it says to take it with a grain of salt. There's no official confirmation yet. Quote
Kman860 Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 I honestly think TLG would be idiots to scale it down to half the size, especially after the disaster that was Assault on Hoth. Quote
Sion Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 We can only hope it won't be a disappointment like Assault on Hoth. Quote
HawkLord Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Scaling down the DS may not be a bad move. I remember reading that when the first DS came out, it didnt fly off the shelves and was not as much of a money-maker as smaller sets that have a better profit margin. Lego may be seeing a new sweet-spot in pricing large UCS sets and might be moving away from the $400 weight class for these technical licensed sets. Hence the $350 GB Firehouse and Marvel Helicarrier. Quote
tafkatb Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 It was j2g who first said it would be "bigger and better," and both of those are open to interpretation - bigger could mean a higher piece count even if the finished product isn't physically larger. Quote
Panthro Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Don't get your hopes too high. Agreed. As previously posted by me, I can see this set being Assault on Hoth 2. Quote
Fuppylodders Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Agreed. As previously posted by me, I can see this set being Assault on Hoth 2. Assault on Hoth 2: The TLG Strikes Back? Quote
YellowCorvette Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Just hoping that the new DS will be better than Assault on Hoth, but that won't be that dificult given how poorly designed 75098 is. Quote
DarkLordSauron Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 As much as we may all want Lego to learn from Hoth, remember this set began initial designing 1 to 2 years ago, probably around the same time as Hoth... so... don't get your hopes up. That said, I don't see how they could justify pulling a perfectly good Death Star and replacing it with a smaller one, meaning cutting out some of the scenes in the old one, unless the old one wasn't selling, which I don't think was the case. Of course, they could always go the DS2 route with a minifigure-less structural design. But I can't imaging that would sell well. To justify pulling the old one, they'll at least try to make it "bigger and better", which should mean a higher price, not a lower one. But then again, you never can tell with Lego these days... Quote
Jbricks Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I'm confident it will have minifigures. Didn't one of our sources say a blue, clear-domed astromech was coming? That would be the one at the beginning of this video: Putting in just this droid and not actual named characters would be foolhardy. Quote

Kman860 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Either way, maybe it's time to start a 2017 Rumors thread? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 Either way, maybe it's time to start a 2017 Rumors thread? Once we actually have credible rumors of 2017 sets, not just speculation and wishlists, the staff will start a 2017 topic. Quote
RetroInferno Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Time to pin a 2017 set news and rumors "Yoda's Hut" edition? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 Also, should we be discussing this here since this is the 2016 thread? What's the source for this rumor? As far as I can tell, it's all just wishful thinking and should be in Future Star Wars Sets, not in any rumors topic, regardless of year... Quote
