Nokturn Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) And again, I really like what LEGO did with the texture on the front of the shuttle... That part really stood out to me, too. I don't think we've ever seen texture/paneling work of that caliber... it looks gorgeous and echoes what we've seen in the studio model: If you didnt save the photos to your computer or phone immediately then that is your fault. Lego's rigidty at releasing photos is nothing new. I dont say that to be mean but this is the cycle we go through with every wave. ALWAYS save photos until you know for sure they are offical and not just leaks. I think it has less to do with TLG and more to do with LFL/Disney in this case. Force Friday is apparently the only day they want to reveal the merchandise, which I still find a little bit ridiculous. Even the general target audience would like to see the merchandise before they go to a midnight launch and spend a large amount of money on it. Force Friday is an event to save for, not one to go to without any idea of what you'll be seeing. That said, I can't complain. Anyone who bothers to look for leaked images will see them, and the rules EB has are understandable & fair. I have to remind myself sometimes that we're fortunate to even have the hi-res leaked images in the first place, even if I disagree with the vehement and seemingly pointless restrictions. However, we wouldn't have to deal with this if they'd bother with an official reveal. It barely even makes sense for a business to keep their customers in the dark about a product. What happened to actually revealing things at Toy Fair and the like? Edited August 9, 2016 by Nokturn Quote
Falconfan1414 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 It is understandable why the rules are in place. We want to have good relations with Lego. But it is kind of funny this is the 3rd time some thing like this has happened (first with the force awakens and then with the first leak of these sets) Quote
Nokturn Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) It's likely going to happen every single time unless TLG completely stops sending pictures to retailers. We rarely, if ever, see D2C sets before they're officially revealed, and that's simply because they don't appear in retailer catalogs or on any online shop besides LEGO.com. The leaks usually come from retailers making mistakes, as far as I can tell. I do hope that TLG finds an alternative; I think we'd all "prefer a straight fight to all this sneakin' around." Chewybricks Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Apologies, did not know it was an issue to post a video about the pics Missed what brick doctor stated Quote
x105Black Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Anyways, getting back on topic... I like the sets, overall. Krennic's Shuttle is particularly nice. Also, the minifigures look good, and I'll probably be buying them on BrickLink (as long as the prices aren't stupidly inflated). Quote
anothergol Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Really, is it just me who has problems believing that "oops, we leaked photos AGAIN" is nothing but a marketing stunt? Especially if it wasn't the case, Lego (or any company) would be happy about the buzz and wouldn't even fake complaining about it. It has happened every single time: first tiny pics are "left by mistake" on their servers, and when the buzz fades out, bigger pics "are made visible prematurely". Ok it's more believable here because it's Amazon leaking, but not when it's Lego itself, not when it happens every single time. That could be useful for something, dunno… oh it will, I was waiting for it to appear in grey, I'm a sucker for such parts (I also see the "robo arm + bar" that appeared in the Beetle, but only 1 part in a set) Quote
Artanis I Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 ALWAYS save photos until you know for sure they are offical and not just leaks. Just to make this clear: official photos must be officially released for us to (be permitted to) post them. On this occasion, official photos were leaked. Leaked pictures are apparently not allowed, whether they are official photos or preliminary photos or camera-phone photos of a catalogue. At least we haven't been banned from even discussing the sets this time, unlike last year, and with Nexo Knights. Quote

Especially if it wasn't the case, Lego (or any company) would be happy about the buzz and wouldn't even fake complaining about it. I highly doubt these leaks are any sort of marketing stunt - representatives from TLG, LFL and/or Disney would not be issuing DMCAs and C&D letters if they actually wanted these images out there. They politely ask Ambassadors of fan sites to take the images down, but forceful legal action is taken elsewhere on sites that aren't affiliated. Quote

I guess my point is theres never any way to know if theyre official or a leak until a day later like what just happened. To play it safe and to ensure you have the photos of the sets always save them onto whatever device you use. That way you can view them on the off chance that the photos are taken down Quote
LiLmeFromDaFuture Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 (I also see the "robo arm + bar" that appeared in the Beetle, but only 1 part in a set) Ooh, that is good to hear; the more sets they appear in, the merrier it will be when they become readily available from Bricklink or B&P—I am in need of many. I'm not sold on the sets (I find the Shuttle wings flimsy at best) but I dig the minifigures and I hope their prices won't skyrocket. Quote
Panthro Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 A brief Google search turns up the images, if anyone is that desperate to see them. Quote
Kraby Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 I think I'll get the Shuttle, AT-ST, maybe the Tie Striker. I'm really not sold on the Tank. U-Wing is not spectacular, but I like all the minifigs, so I might as well buy the set, dependind on figs price on bricklink... That being said, where is my Death Star reveal !!! Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) I think all the sets look interesting. I'm slightly puzzled a film designed to cash in on nostalgia and the iconography of the 'original' trilogy doesn't feature more familiar sets - and how do we not even get one Stormtrooper?! benderisgreat Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Now I am glad that I saved all pictures when I first saw them. I understand why EB agreed with Lego to stop sharing pictures on the site, but it's really naive of Lego to think that in digital age they can contain pictures from spreading on the internet. If anything Lego should be happy that most of the people liked the sets, and are going to buy them, and not pointlessy trying to stop pics from spreading. But maybe they are only doing this because Disney don't want them to be shown. Then it's a whole other issue... Edited August 10, 2016 by benderisgreat Quote

Personally I'm pleased they didn't go down that road. The movie will obviously feature OT ships etc, but after 2 X-wing sets (or 3 if you include the micro fighter), I think people might have a taste for something different. My fav TFA set is still the FO transporter, just because it was something unique. Quote

Gotta sell those battlepacks next year! I'm glad they released something different though, TFA was a bore because of that. Quote
Markalus Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) So the official pictures of the sets from the movie about the theft of the plans to the Death Star are leaked/stolen yet the UCS Death Star 'plans' still remain secret. Ironic...don't you think? Edited August 10, 2016 by Markalus Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Wait, what? DISCUSSION of the Force Awakens sets was banned? Wow. I'm glad that Disney is letting up a bit this time. With this constant onslaught of new movies, I wonder how many it'll take for LEGO to just reveal the sets a month or so before they're released. Also, the Death Star comes out for VIPs in a month, and the Winter Train that comes out at the same time has already been found. I wonder why there's no information regarding it... Quote
StarWars8Spoiler Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 For anyone wanting to see the pics, FBTB surprisingly still has them up on their frontpage. Quote

It's nothing naïve & trust me that Lego is more than happy about any buzz around new sets, it's gold for any company. If one of Lego's departments is faking being unhappy about it, it can only be in order to keep some fairness among distributors. Like, they don't have the news anymore, Amazon did. Any distributor who's not Amazon can certainly be unhappy about it, yeah, but not Lego. I would be Lego, I would give someone the job of "leaking" stuff periodically so there is not a day when there is no buzz about something Lego. Edited August 10, 2016 by anothergol Quote
MrHerofan Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Well I saw the sets and I can't wait to see more of them in the future. The U-WIng does not interest me that much and is easily the weakest thing in the whole wave. The new Tie Fighter design looks really cool and the AT-ST looks nice as well. The tank looks really good and the new shuttle is nice as well. Overall in terms of sets I prefer these over last years TFA wave. The minifigures look nice and I like the diversity in the way they look this time around. It is odd to me though that there are no "basic" stormtrooper in any of these sets. They'll probably be released in the battle pack which is hopefully better than TFA one. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 Mmkay, I realize that these are reactionary comments, so I don't blame anyone for posting them, but this really isn't the place to discuss how TLG handles leaks. If you have any concerns about that, another topic in a forum like General Discussion or The Embassy would be better suited. Let's keep this one focused on the rumored sets. Thanks. Quote
General Magma Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 These sets look pretty great, but the figures even moreso. I look forward to adding all of those to my collection of OT(/GCW) era figures, if anything! There's something about the U-wing that caught my eye. I'm currently in the process of making my own version of an X-wing, and I noticed a piece I'd never seen before on the U-wing, attached to the exact same round piece I'm using for my X-wing. Has anybody been able to identify this piece, and if so, can anybody tell me which piece it is? Otherwise, I'm going to assume this is an entirely new piece made for the set. It's the thin, light grey piece. Quote

I believe it's the ice pick piece (http://brickset.com/parts/6088382), and its handle is stuck into a black, round piece of some kind that extends back through the engine.
