The description sounds good to me. Just an updated death star was what i was expecting after all. I hope for the inclusion of dual moulding legs and arms where needed. The last death star was already pretty perfect, i hope they sleeked him up a bit.

Darn, I was really hoping it'd be entirely based off of A New Hope. The Return of the Jedi parts and figures of this set will be pointless for the people who already own the Death Star Final Duel set. :sceptic:

Well, it's 200 more pieces and they could be using bigger pieces.

If I remeber well someone on the boards once mentionned an employee saying it was bigger than the previous version.

Was this a LEGO Store Employee?

Knowing TLG there will only include one stormie in a nigh on $500 set. Honestly that's a lower figure count then I was hoping but still fairly generous. Han Solo looks amazing! Now this would be the year to have released a death star battle pack with gunners.

The real question is will Tarkin have a grey or dark tan uniform?

If they really want to us to hate them, a dark tan uniform haha.

I look forward to the updated minifigures, but I just don't know what to think about the whole set.

That's like the new version of the Han Hoth blue/brown coat debate...

As predominantly a minifigure collector (I was never interested in 10188 as to me they already looked outdated when released) I am VERY happy with this line up, especially since seeing the leaked new parts for Han's hair, Luke's new hair, Leia's new prints etc I am very hopeful for some truly excellent classic characters! I am also looking forward to seeing what they do with a new Dianoga and interrogation droid, personally I'm hoping for the new parts used to make balloons in the new city sets, but in black with printing on them.

As for the price, none of should be surprised at this point, and yes, the extra 200 parts are likely to all be LBG cheese wedges used to round off the square edges on 10188, but hey, what can you do?

I'm hoping for an official release tonight as it is a month to the day it will be available for VIP access, and all the other reveals are out of the way, c'mon TLG please put us out our misery.

There's a lot of negativity about this. I'm not sure what everyone was expecting it to be. To me, for the price, it was always going to be a series of dioramas like the last one. If it was merely the outer structure then I don't see how the piece count could be so high. The Death Star II makes sense as it has a lot of exposed structure from the incomplete appearance, but just a sphere would have been fairly boring.

I was always tempted by the original, but didn't get it due to space limitations and the cost, plus little things like the should length hair piece used for Luke bugged me. I'll definitely consider this one.

I might be one of the few who disliked that set and therefore never bought it. I thought the Throne Room was actually better in 10188, despite the fact that it was smaller and had an inaccurate layout. I'm interested to see what they'll do with it this time, if it's anything different that is.

Yeah, 10188 came out when I was still in my dark ages, and over the past couple years I also didn't bother to pick it up partly because the minifigures all looked really outdated. As for the minifigure line up, I'm generally more interested in the Imperials than the main characters, but I am looking forward to getting a couple copies of the new Han hair piece and a new Leia.

Same here. I got into collecting UCS Lego just as the 10188 was retiring. I passed on it due to the outdated mini figures and overall look of the structure. If this set has the new and nicely updated mini figures plus a nicer shape I will definitely consider it as well ;)

I just finished putting the Ewok Village together and it is a nice display piece besides being a play set. A lot to look at and it captured the scenes from the movie really well. I passed on Assault on Hoth because it it looked like a disjointed mess of pieces. Still have hope for this new Death Star!

As it stands at the moment it is sounding like an update of the old DS. If that is true then the minfigs in this set could be a deal breaker for most. At that price every fig has to be done to the best standards possible by lego at this point, I'm talking about dual moulded legs, arm and leg printing, new hair pieces, new torso printing and dare i even dream about the side piping printed onto Hans legs.

The ball really is in lego's court on this one and I hope they can really wow us but if they put out another underwhelming and pricey UCS i might just go back to superhero stuff as that is a lot more interesting and offers a bit more value for money. As an AFOL I just feel the Star wars line is pushing the loyalty we have shown given recent price hikes but no real leaps in excellence or desirability as a result of the sets costing more.

Having said all that, this is all just rumour and hearsay so I'm still excited to see what is finally released.

As someone who never picked up the old Death Star I am more than happy with the sound of it. I was hoping for a playset and that is what we are getting, it is a shame that we aren't receiving any new characters but then again who can they really include? We pretty much get every character that's seen in the Death Star so really it makes sense. I just hope the interior is changed slightly as there was a lot of wasted space on the bottom level of the original.

As someone who considers themselves a Lego minifigure collector and a bit of a long-one Lego collector, I would suggest to the newer crowd that pacing themselves is usually the cheaper option.

Lego has proven that Star Wars gets frequent updates to its sets, in general. Particularly when it comes to the OT. When I bought the 10188 DS, it was not for the minifigures or the build, it was mostly just to say I had it. At the time, I had better, cheaper versions of nearly all the minifigures included, so it was more for completing a collection. Now I have silly amounts of all the main characters that I've acquired from sets through the years since.

My point being that even though this set will have a near complete main character cast from the OT, there may be cheaper options in that regard. And as Lego is perpetually improving on itself, these versions may not stay relevant too long. When I bought 10188 in 2013, I already had many minifigures that were better than the ones included.

Agreed. One really can't expect a set with a lot more pieces and a greater variety of minifigs at the same price as a set that was released eight years ago. A rehash of 10188 at a higher price is exactly what I'd expect and seems like a completely reasonable set concept.

Regarding price: 10143 retailed at $300 eleven years ago. I would be very (pleasantly) surprised if TLG took major elements of that set, added it to a set that was $400 eight years ago, and sold it for the same $400 in 2016. And like I've said before, I know $100 is a lot of money, but really, you have no problem with committing to $400 on a pile of plastic toys, but $500 is an instant deal breaker?

Regarding new minifigs of minor characters that only appear in Death Star scenes: do you really want minifigs to be exclusive to a $500 set?

Regarding potential lack of Stormtroopers: it's a $500 set. Yes, it'd definitely be nice if it had a whole platoon if them, but you're not buying it as an army building set, I hope.

Excuse me but I'll have you know I'd buy 4 if it came with a full platoon of stormies!

But seriously, two seems reasonable considering all the other minifigs. We're getting a battlepack with two stormtroopers next year anyway.

Well, an updated 10188 sounds sweet to me. I could never afford to buy it for years. Just when I got in a position to get it, there was that cryptic comment about the updated version and I've been waiting for it ever since.

I know and updated version might seem a let down to those who have 10188, but for those who haven't, updated minifigures, improved building techniques and newer bricks all going into that classic design sounds fantastic. I cannot wait to see the first images (I feel like I'm checking this thread at least once every 15 mins at the moment!)

sry 4 going super offtopic but - yes it does matter. For a lot of us - if not most - $100 bucks isn't that little. & it ain't just that. Sure due to inflation & other reasons the price can increase a bit. But since TFA wave it's waaaaay over reasonable. sets with less pieces now cost $10 more than some with even more figures. That's sad since I think the price-policy of TLG was very reasonable in the past. & it gets even more absurd if you compare City or SW to the Ninjago line with mostly 8-9 bucks per 100 pieces + much more new molds, leg prints, new prints & more figures. Either the new movies/Disney/copyrights interfered or they just do it because they can. & We still buy it - including myself.

Technically there'd be four but two of them would have Han and Luke heads. ;)

As with others here I passed on the 10188 due to having updated versions of a lot of the figures anyway. I'd be interested to see just how 'updated' these ones are. I think we've already seen Han has a hair update which is nice and hopefully Leia will feature the design seen from the game. Tarkin getting a grey uniform update is a must... will we see dual moulded legs for the boots?

I'm also interested in whether the Imperial Protocol Droid will be a rerelease of the one featured in the Yoda Chronicles set. I can see the Gunner having Imperial logo arm printing (didn't the TIE Fighter Pilot in the USC TIE have that?)

There's quite a few other figures there that I can't see being any different from currently existing versions.

I'll be picking this one up anyway and subsequently hypnotising my wife into not seeing it.

Got a look at it.

Literally 10188 with maybe a few visual differences. One thing I noticed is the turret on the bottom, it uses spring shooters instead.

Some things have changed from grey to black, black to grey, light grey, etc. Han's new hairpiece is in there. Tarkin is grey. The middle laser has been made a little more stable (it's mostly not a bunch of 1x1 bricks stacked on top of each other)

In all honestly, it's a huuuuge disappointment.

Does this mean there's a chance we'll be seeing it soon too?

Would you say it's good for those of us who never got the last iteration?
