Bricky Dee Williams Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 If you wanted 10188 really badly, buy this because it's pretty much exactly the same thing. So 75159 The Death Star is basically the "Winter Village Toy Shop" of the Lego Star Wars theme? Really, of all things, especially with the new film... Quote
TheBear Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 It is obviously 5D6-RA-7 and the blue astromech is R3-M3 Quote
HawkLord Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Star Wars isn't quite about old fans these days, it's about getting a new generation in. Old Lego Star Wars collectors have all this material from prior years - Lego is finding a way to package it for new collectors. I really feel that Insult on Hoth and NewDS are not for us. It's for people jumping on board the new Disney Star Wars train. Normally that's not a bad thing, as more money into the Star Wars license should always be welcome. It should mean Lego has more financial stability or create more Star Wars products or the odd piece here and there just for the fun of it. Theoretically, if Insult on Hoth and NewDS did really well it could pave the way for more exciting offerings next year. Quote

Of course we would all appreciate a fantastic UCS set like Slave I every single time, but statistically speaking, not many of us are bound to unconditionally love every single set that TLG produces or remakes. They wouldn't be making these sets if they didn't know that there was a guaranteed market for them. Yeah, it's disappointing when a set doesn't turn out how everyone was expecting, but there's still a lot of people who will buy it regardless and they're definitely not the ones posting on forums and waiting for leaked info/pictures. wesker Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Can't say I'm disapointed by the news since I've always suspected the new Death Star was going to be a 10188 re-release with minor updates. Still interested in seeing what differences there are compared to the old set. I'm curious as to what the difference between the imp. officer and imp. navy officer is. Maybe one is a crewman? I'm guessing the Navy Officer is the black uniformed version seen here: Quote
Tariq j Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Well that explains the comments about fans being "divided" on the set. Those who already have 10188 may not want to get thus set, where as fans who missed out on 10188 have a chance to get an updated version. It's interesting to hear the Final Duel room will still be included in the set despite only being redesigned last year. I wonder whether they'll take inspiration from the 2015 version or simply update 10188 version. Quote
RetroInferno Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 UCS wasn't marketed for kids save for the last few years too. I accept that Lego can make hybrids, like ewok village and the sand crawler, both are mighty impressive on display and can be played it. But then you have insult on hoth, which looks like crap and don't even work as a playset ( yay let's defend the base from those 2 guys with a speeder, too bad the AT-AT is discontinued kids! ) The Deathstar was sold for a very long time and sold very well, so it's hard to fault Lego, but that HD remake appears lazy and too easy. Still want a solid look at it before passing any final judgement if I'll get it or not though. If not I'll get the RO wave, if of course the pricing doesn't increase before launch. Out of curiosity, anyone here even liked the previous Death Star set? Quote
Bolingbroke Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I'm disappoined not in that it's an update of the old ds, but that it seems to be a faithful update of it. They didn't have to include the throne room again, i always thought it stupid. and vader's tie ... i don't know, i will have to see it (and the price in euros) before deciding. i have the old one anyway. if i update, i will use the old one for spare parts and mocs, if not, i will still be happy. im sure the new han will be found in at least 7 sets by the end of this decade. CM4Sci Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Is it the exact same builds all around, like the holding cell or are new techniques used? Looked all the same to me. I really thought they'd update the holding cell to me, the abrupt flatness looks awful to me. Edited August 15, 2016 by CM4Sci Quote
HawkLord Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Very eloquently put. Thank you! Out of curiosity, anyone here even liked the previous Death Star set? I like 10188 and will keep it assembled as long as I have space for it. It's still one of the gems of my collection. Quote
Robianco Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 To all those people who picked up another 10188 or two once it was retiring to sell on for profit... How's that working out? Quote
Calanon Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I'm guessing the Navy Officer is the black uniformed version seen here: *snip* It could be, but that would require a new print. Could also be one with only two belt boxes, or single-breasted tunic and no belt boxes (no new print) or the light grey single-breasted tunic with one thing that doesn't seem to be a belt box, also no print. I say a new print because, whilst double-breasted tunic ans 2 belt boxes exists, no back and they've updated the belt box design. A new print would definitely be welcome though. Quote

strangely Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I always wanted the previous one, but could never afford it. So, it's nice that I'll have many years to come to save up for the new one. Quote
Brickweiser Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 A rehash with updated pricing and figures was exactly what I expected. It's why I didn't buy the original when the rumour of a new one emerged. Quote

Sion Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Damn, I was really hoping this would be great to make up for Insult on Hoth. I guess my expectations are a bit high. :/ Quote
Forresto Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Regarding potential lack of Stormtroopers: it's a $500 set. Yes, it'd definitely be nice if it had a whole platoon if them, but you're not buying it as an army building set, I hope. Well my point is you need enemies to fight in a diorama like this and having one or even two stormies is a little lackluster. Now four would be a good number. I know there's the BP coming out next year that supposedly has OT stormtroopers but I feel on principle you shouldn't have to feel obligated to buy another set after spending $500 (or more in other countries). Besides if TLG can afford to put two stormtroopers in a cheap battle pack set having four in one of the most expensive sets doesn't seem like a big deal. I know this sounds slightly entitled, but we have gone through several years of proper stormtroopers being dispersed into expensive sets in ones. That being said I haven't seen the set or figure numbers. Maybe once we see the full line up of figures together we'll be so blown away it won't matter. Quote
YellowCorvette Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Well,a facelift version of 10188 is pretty much what I expected for 75159. While 10188 is an excellent set, some of the build leaves something to be desired and the minifigures is extremely outdated. This one can't be as bad like 75098 through, since the new Death Star at least focusing on one thing instead of the tacked on models in 75098. Quote
ISDAvenger Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Based on the reports it sounds like Lego needs to start cleaning house on the LSW design team. Sounds like their current team is complacent and lazy. This seems to be a reoccurring trend which will only continue. Disgusting. Quote
Mymaker123 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Based on the reports it sounds like Lego needs to start cleaning house on the LSW design team. Sounds like their current team is complacent and lazy. This seems to be a reoccurring trend which will only continue. Disgusting. Ok I've kept quiet this evening but I can't just sit back any longer... First off, calling out designers is way off topic so this post shouldn't really be tolerated for that alone. Secondly, that is a step too far. Who are you to say that these designers are 'disgusting'? I'm pretty sure that the AFOL community is far from their target audience - just look at the age recommendations on the box - so I highly doubt that they're designing sets to please people like me and you anyway, so it should be expected that there'd be some disagreement. Secondly, becoming a LEGO Desinger is an incredibly difficult task that is a lot of people's dream job. They all work their absolute hardest to produce the best possible products, as per LEGO's motto that 'only the best is good enough'. They'll be the first to notice a flaw in their work, not us. Whist they may drop the ball on occasion (what business doesn't?) they make an awful lot of fantastic products. Products that kids today will buy and be absolutely amazed by. Products that kids will think were the golden age of sets in a few years. All due respect, but I don't think you, or anybody here on this forum, has any authority to go that far and call out these people's careers. Show some respect. Now, back on topic (so that this post doesn't get removed...), I love the design of the TIE striker and I can't wait for HD images for the other sets. And a remake of the previous DS is something I really am pleased about since I didn't get the previous version either. :) Edited August 15, 2016 by Mymaker123 Quote
Calanon Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 What was everyone expecting the new Death Star set to be? I mean, yes okay it sounds disappointing but we haven't seen how it has been updated yet. Do people literally just want a giant sphere and nothing else? What new things do you want them to add for an interior besides rooms for key scenes? Quote
Agent Kallus Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) So much negativity. What else were you expecting? This what happened with assault on Hoth we over hyped it and people got disappointed before they had even seen it. Though to be slight hypocrite I would prefer an opening hemisphere with both and exterior and interior. Also why give us Vader's tie whena presumably better one came out only like a month ago. Kinda ninj'd never mind. Edited August 16, 2016 by AgentKallus of Hydra Quote
strangely Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I don't think it's right to blame the designers. The last version was very popular. Likely Lego dictated to the designers that this only to be an updated version of that set rather than something completely different. Quote
