Ultron Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Rogue One. The sets for next year aren't the cheapest, but they're not $500 and he could very easily be featured in one of them. I wasn't aware he was confirmed to be in rogue one? It would make sense but I haven't heard anything about him Quote
TheNerdyOne_ Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I wasn't aware he was confirmed to be in rogue one? It would make sense but I haven't heard anything about him He seems to appear briefly in ones of the trailers IIRC. Probably not confirmed, but I do know it's heavily rumored. Quote
Forresto Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I wasn't aware he was confirmed to be in rogue one? It would make sense but I haven't heard anything about him There's absolutely no way he won't at least cameo. The death star is Tarkin's project, he's so prominent in ANH which this movie precedes (that's not a spoiler btw) plus he's the dude Vader answers to. We may only see him briefly but I don't doubt he will show up. Will he show up in a set...I really really hope so. My worry is all the death star figures will end up going for $50 a piece on BL. Lunchietey Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Haha so many pages of crying. AFOLS account for a TINY amount of lego sales. Almost every set Lego has EVER made INCLUDING UCS has been aimed at kids and teenagers. Lego have rereleased and slightly updated the DS. They will sell 98% of these to 12 year olds. Get over it and be happy with what it is. If you're like me and have the ability to pick and choose whatever Lego you want to buy, exercise this right and don't buy it if you don't like it. I don't love it but will just buy it anyway because it will look cool in my man cave. I won't be tearing up because Luke's hair isn't quite right. It's a toy for a kid, and the kids won't give a crap and Lego's profit margins will be just fine. Quote
Lobot Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 A giant, giant picture of the back of the box is now out, thus ruining all claims it is fake. Ironically, the reverse of the box looks far more appealing than the front! If it's a fake someone has put a lot of effort into it.... I was hoping that it would include a few really special minifigures (e.g. a chrome Death Star Droid) but it doesn't look that promising. Perhaps it's time for me to spend my UCS money elsewhere; I quite like the idea of upgrading my telescope! Quote
Seaber Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 R3-M3, RA=7 Droid and perhaps Leia's Torso is all I'll be getting from this set. Hopefully Tarkin will appear later again later on, as well as the black suited imperial torso with insignia. I'm happy for the people who didn't get 10188, who can now get an updated version, it wouldn't surprise me to see a similar thing done in 2024 :D Hopefully there is a quick and easy mod for the throne room with parts from Final Duel and the instructions from this Death Star. DEAD1974 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 well it seems that they also replaced the big Technic cannon piece by two spring loaded green lasers (if I see it correctly) Quote

Alfadas Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Let's just be happy Lego didn't include stud-shooters... All in all I'm very happy I have the 10188. Quote
LegoFjotten Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Is there 1 more minifig this time around? - I count 2 new gunners and 2 new imperial officers - Han Solo (regular outfit), IG-88, and interrogation droid are gone The amount of classic scenes one can recreate with this slightly refined lineup is pretty amazing actually, it almost makes me want to pull out my old 10188 from the shelf and pose some minifigures. To be fair, the updated figs really do look a lot better than the old ones. Imagine keeping the 10188 on the shelves 5 more years without updating the figs... yikes! Quote
Richpepperell Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Can't find back-of-box pics anywhere! Should have woken up earlier as maybe they're gone again. At least people are sounding a bit more positive now! Quote

Han's regular costume wasn't seen in any of the set pics for 10188 either so I wouldn't count him out just yet. The Interrogator Droid is definitely included though. There's a picture of it in the prison cell on the back of the box. Quote

Richpepperell Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Found image in the end - is the head on the light grey imperial officer the same as the one from the officer from the star destroyer? Easy to swap I know but would be nice to get something different - nobody wants 2 Basts! Quote
atlas Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Has LEGO come around yet and asked people to take down pictures? Maybe because this is not related to R1 disney aren't chasing people around? Quote

If I didn't miss anything else, that means 2 more minifigs, 3 if regular Han is still included. Quote
atlas Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Welp, I'm someone who never got, had enough room for, or could afford 10188, so this set is fine in my books. In all honesty this set still looks sensational - if 10188 hadn't come out this would be the best thing ever right now - but I can see the complaints for the AFOLs that own the previous model. Even for those hard core complainers here, at least this creates the silver lining that we could get a nearly identical 10179 remake in the future. Imagine that...exact same as the previous, but it has updated figures from both OT and TFA, maybe even Nien Nunb and Lando for ROTJ. £500/$600. I bet that would shut up all this 'LEGO is dropping the ball' nonsense ;) I personally have never understood the obsession with 10179, it's probably due to its limited existence. It hasn't aged well and is overrated. Quote
Mymaker123 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I personally have never understood the obsession with 10179, it's probably due to its limited existence. It hasn't aged well and is overrated. Well, it's easily the best off-screen representation of the Falcon that has been made in LEGO, and the only one in true mini-figure scale. Also it's the actual building aspect: I'd imagine it's the most rewarding model you could build. And personally I think it's aged incredibly well what with all the intricate details, so much so that they decided to use the design in the LEGO TFA game almost a decade later. The secondary market price represents that too ;) Quote
LegoFjotten Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I don't think 10179 is overrated. It's the most memorable LEGO build experience I've had, and the size of the finished model is very impressive. It's not perfect though, and it can be improved on. If a re-release comes along with updated figures I would buy it without thinking twice. I think the secondary market price is inflated though. I bought a used one, enjoyed the build and had it around for 6 months and then passed it on to another LUG member so he could enjoy it. Quote
x105Black Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 The Death Star is a refreshing of the previous set. As that, it does a decent enough job. The Death Star that I would buy would include an exterior that folds away / opens to reveal the interior, and slopes to make it more round. It would also have minifigures that are updated to include details like dual molding and limb printing. I am not disappointed in the set when I take it for what it is. It does the job. I am disappointed in the set when I weigh it against what I would be willing to pay ~$500 for. Even $100 is a high price, so there is very very little that could be worth 5 times that amount. Quote
Lunchietey Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Yes, many 12 years olds will be standing in line at the LEGO store to eagerly spend the small amount of $500. Obviously PARENTS will be buying them for 12 year olds. Quote
Alfadas Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Obviously PARENTS will be buying them for 12 year olds. Like any parent is going to spend 500 bucks on a Lego set. They are just gonna buy them a smartphone or something. Quote

It's a toy for a kid, and the kids won't give a crap and Lego's profit margins will be just fine. Some kids do give a crap about inaccuracies. Especially if you're talking about 12 year old kids. Would a 7 year old kid care? Well, you're probably right, but I don't know any parent that's going to buy a $500 LEGO set for their kid, even for Christmas. Maybe that's because I'm not part of the more affluent society. Quote
nikhkin Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Like any parent is going to spend 500 bucks on a Lego set. They are just gonna buy them a smartphone or something. Parents will buy their kids trainers that cost hundreds, when they are no better than ones that cost £30. Why wouldn't they do the same for a collectable Lego set. It's not going to be a regular thing, but there are some who would. Quote
