Widdi Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) OMG!!! I'll have to pick up this set next year. I think it will be in the region of the Cafe Corner Set in terms of price, about 140 - 150€. Seems that it comes with 8 minifigs, including 2 females. WOW!!! The truck has even doors. The blue car sadly not, but it looks still great. 2008 ON!!! mFg Widdi Edited October 18, 2007 by Widdi Quote
simonwillems Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Thanks for those quality pics! The details are stunning: cardoors, the use of that round window in the gasstation *wub* *wub* I am buying this set! Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Dang it! In 50 year brick. In color! Color?!?! Still looks quite good... Quote
dunamis Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Wow, what a great idea! Love the details. I'll be picking one up for sure. Quote
Ickelpete Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 What an amazing set X-O X-O This really take me back to my childhood the first set I was ever given was the town plan from 1963 it had belonged to my cousin. I cant wait for 2008 Quote
natelite Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 if anyone is interested. here's the original town plan from the 50s. :-P Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Thank you very much for that pic, simonwillems and birdie100 for the more detailed pics! That's a fantastic, a great, an amazing set - I'm at a loss for words! It's so excellent built - WOW!!!! I especially like the wedding car, the couple and the fountain with the two park benchs and that TLC did include doors in the fuel tanker (Please more cars with doors!) and did include two female minifigs in this set, too. It seems as if TLC did answer our prayers for some town buildings which are not commonly part of the Lego City theme: A cinema and - most of all - a town hall!!! That's a dream!!! I only hope that there is a very nice interior in each of the buildings (in the service station you can see it, but in the others you can't see it very well). The buildings will perfectly go with older city buildings and will surely help to create a very, very, very nice and realistic Lego City - oh, pardon me - Lego Town how it is written down on the town plan. And so many realistic details and so much nice stuff which will come with it! That's awesome! Regrettably it surely will cost a lot of money - but for good things you have to pay good prices! I think around 120-150 Euros because that would be a fair price. What do you expect? In any case I'll spend all my money from the beginning of next year on and won't buy the new police station (which is very nice, too) but will buy this amazing set - because it is a must for each real Lego fan, builder, player and collector! Since we got the pics already now: Does anyone know when it'll be released? Maybe around Easter? That set includes so many things I wished to have for my Lego City but did never think that I will one day get them! It's brilliant!!!!! Quote
SavaTheAggie Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Ahh... how good would that look next to my Tequila Sunrise? mmmmm.... --Tony Quote
Holodoc Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 This is so great that I have trouble to name a detail to begin with. :-D I Quote
alex54 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Alex54 will surely love this set as well. Well... Yes I like this set, but I don't know how to explain my feeling... But I have to recognize that I'm not as impressed as I was seeing the CC! Yes, with CC and MS, I was waiting for some big buildings, with a lot of details, and an impressive look. And this set is not like this. The size of the buildings is ok, even if I found them a little too small now... The cinema don't appeal to me... I don't like all those colours put together... And this architecture is not my cup of tea. It's far from small cinemas that I know... But it's always good to have different styles from different countries. The colorscheme of the town hall is far better for me. Dark green looks great! The fountaine is quite simple too... But those gold bricks are nice. I really like the gaz station! Just put some extra floors on it and you will have a nice building! The car and trucks look really nice too! But the horrible part of this set seems to be the tree on the back, using this trans green alge part... However, the box art is a very good idea :-D ! Well, it seems that finally I'm not a true classic style fan... Or maybe it's because I don't like the retro movement... Using its history to make its future, yes of course! Puting the past for the future appears dangerous... But don't worry, I will buy it! It's a nice city set overall. Quote
Mr Hobbles Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Oh. My. God. This is awesome. There are no words to describe it. I just wasn't expecting this when I heard about the set. :'-) Everything just looks like it would fit in a Cafe Corner/Market Street town! The Service Station may just be the best one ever made, and the cars and people are just excellent. My only gripe would be that the cinema seems to have a pavement/sidewalk, but the others dont. Why is this? Doesn't really matter, it's easy to fix. I simply MUST have this set! 2008 is gonna be expensive. The two Post sets, the Cargo Truck, the City impulse sets, Green Grocer and now this. My poor wallet! Quote
Conchas Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Fantastic set! A must for all collectors!Yes, the guy seems to b Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen himself (grand-son of OKC), who appeared also in the Town Plan Board from 1959 and later again in 1960. "At some point in late 1959/early 1960, the 2 children on the 1959 version of the Town Plan board were ordered back to the LEGO Photography Department for a new picture. They went back with the same clothing, and struck the same poses as the earlier picture. Only now they looked a little older and more mature." Why didn't they took the girl, for the new box photo too? Did they lost her trace...? Quote
The Kid Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) Sorry if this has already been posted, but here's a link to a folder with some more 10184 pics. :-) Some very nice details in this set, along with the 2x2 gold bricks! *sweet* For example, the town plan of Town plan ;-) TK Edited October 18, 2007 by The Kid Quote
natelite Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Well... Yes, with CC and MS, I was waiting for some big buildings, with a lot of details, and an impressive look. And this set is not like this. PHEW!!! for a min there i was so, so, so lonely. glad to have someone share the same thoughts too. :-P well, i'm lukewarm on this set. i would have preferred a decked out town hall over a front heavy set. i'm pretty sure all the buildings here are chopped in half with the back exposed. Why didn't they took the girl, for the new box photo too?Did they lost her trace...? i think she died. someone earlier said she did. maybe you can google it to find out. Quote
Mr Hobbles Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Picture of the back of the box! It looks like all three buildings have interiors! In addition it looks like the Service Station swins open to make it playable. I. Am. In. Love. Best set EVER. I think I'm going to have to buy two! Quote
Corvus Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Holy Moly! That's amazing! I'm so stunned by this set that I can't find a thing wrong with it! It's just....wow. I think I need to go lie down... :-$ Quote
Asuka Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Thanks a lot, simonwillems! *y* This really rocks! LEGO at its best, looks like Just Imagine Quote

The Executive Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I'm starting to like this line better then the others. Finally a city builder set with something other then a police, fire, or train station. Quote
Conchas Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) i think she died. someone earlier said she did. maybe you can google it to find out. I believe there is some confusion around there... There are many old boxes of LEGO sets with KKK and his sisters (Hanne and Gunhild), but most known ones have just one of his sisters for obvious reasons, as the other died in a car accident at 69. More details at some answers from this thread: http://news.lugnet.com/general/?n=50957 However I believe the girl appearing with KKK at 59 and 60 Town Plan boards, was none of his sisters. Face and hair color doesn't fit with other photos available from KKK and sisters. Also according a description in Gary Istok CD (The Unofficial LEGO Sets-Parts Collectors Guide, 1949-1980) refers to KKK and one blond girl (not his sister) as he refers into another photo description. "The board top had a picture of a blond girl in a blue dress and (Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, grandson of TLG founder Ole Kirk Christiansen) a dark haired boy in a plaid shirt playing with a Town Plan scene" So my question "Where is that girl now?" Brick Miner Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 does anyone have any insights on the brick configuration on the "cinema" sign, especially around the letters ??? those look like really thin plates, or is that just the thickness of the stickers ??? man, im really having a hard time making it out *wacko* - BM Quote
