WesternOutlaw Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Question for those of you who own or have seen the Cafe Corner: Do you think the scale and the style of the Cafe Corner is a bit too large to look good with this new city set? Do you think the two sets, side-by-side, would look awkward? Quote
iamded Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) I love the interior details, like (what I assume is) the gumball machine ad popcorn doohickey in the Theatre. And food in the service station! Yay! Apple, banana, and crossoint. And there is an interior (as in screening room) to the theatre, that's a relief! X-D Thanks Sinner! *y* ~Peace Edited October 21, 2007 by iamded Quote

Batbrick Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) I don't own the Cafe Corner (but I will! >:-) ) but I have seen a few pictures off it next to normal city buildings and it doesn't look as bad as people think. It just looks like a expensive hotel in the center of the city. I'm sure that this will look fine next to it, the only problem being the 50's style and size ;-) I Am FEAR Incarnate! *skull* Edited October 21, 2007 by Batbrick Quote
alex54 Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Well, after seeing those new and better pics from this set, I find my first reaction a little too hard... I've got a better impression with this set now... And finally I'm really happy to see some more classic sized constructions! In fact, with CC, I was very desoriented with the size: Do I have to rebuild my city with the new "standard" or with the classic size?... And finally, after making my CC smaller, I decided to choose the classic road, like I always have done. With MS, I was in the same situation... And I decided to continue in the classic style, thinking that maybe I will go to the new and big size if TLC will release some new sets like that... And with this set, no doubt, classic style for me, with no back and interiors! This is for the size. For the design, the new pics give more justice to this set than the first pic. The buildings look better, the cinema in particular. And it seems that there are a lot of snot technics in it. And this station is really really great! The tree is the only part of the set that I really dislike... Can't wait to see it in real... Quote

Looking for a display name Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 great set people say that tlg releases 8 sets a year does this mean 8 sets for each theme or just 8 sets *wacko* 8-| :-$ Quote
Mr Hobbles Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Do you think the scale and the style of the Cafe Corner is a bit too large to look good with this new city set? Do you think the two sets, side-by-side, would look awkward? I own both Cafe Corner and Market Street and have every intention of getting Town Plan. However I had the same thoughs as you. I've come to these conclusions though: 1. The new buildings are sufficiently detailed to work alongside CC and MS without looking out of place in my opinion. 2. The new buildings aren't any smaller, they're just on one storey instead of multiple stories. The Cinema has a large sign to add some height to it, and the Church has a tower. Not to mention a lot of inner city church's are quite small. 3. The Cinema having a pavement means it'll fit in more with CC and MS than the Gas Station and Church. However the addition of pavements to the Gas Station and Church should make them fit in perfectly (Again, it STILL confuses me why they don't have pavements to start off with!) Quote

Svelte Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Great set. I too had mixed feelings on first seeing this - mainly because we've been so spoiled this year with the amount of amazing creator/ city buildings we've had in 2007, and because I think CC is really in a league of its own! I agree that 2 facades doesn't really fit with the CC size, but I don't think it would be too hard to add in the extra room behind. If all the buildings were to CC scale the piece count would easily be 4000+ so I prefer to have a few different facades in unusual colours which can be modded anyway. The cinema facade is very well designed, and often the building behind the art deco facade is fairly dull anyway architecturally speaking anyway so it wouldn't take too much to expand this and slot it in to a CC size cityscape. The posters are fantastic and very humorous, and the popcorn machine and little details are fab. The service station is great in its own right, and seems slightly out of place only in that it is a complete building rather than a tall facade with limited back. Very well designed and the trans clear and silver umbrellas are great. The Town Hall has the same kind of slightly empty looking construction as the Train Station - I think you need at least 2 to put together back to back to make it look a bit more solid if you want it to fit in with the CC style. Very nice dark green parts and it's nice to have a profusion of different flowers/ plant pieces in one set. All in all, I think this is a great set with a fantastic variety of great coloured pieces and some nice figs. A great way to expand your city with three large and distinctive buildings in one set. Will be interesting to see what the Australian price is, since for us the CC price was above the usual Euro conversion but MS was below :) Let's hope the colour matching problem which afflicted CC and the dark blue pieces in MS is finally fixed as well, as it is annoying to pay premium prices for such big sets only to have inferior bricks! And I'm glad we have a few months warning before this launches (unlike CC and MS) as it gives me time to save up and will stop me impulse buying other sets that I am not 100% keen on just because they're the first new Lego batch in 2008! LegoFranks Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I am liking this set a lot! It can be easily adjusted to fit in with Cafe Corner, Market Street and the future Green Grocer release, and I'll probably expand the cinema backwards to incorporate a larger screen! So cool... LegoFranks Quote

LegoFranks Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 By the way, liking this fire station A LOT! *y* Where can I find more pictures, as I'm thinking of designing one myself along similar lines? Having said that, might make it more like the Ghostbusters HQ! M. Quote
Lego Amaryl Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 It's a wonderful set, but too expensive! This is the right way... but why doesn't TLG release little sets too? I think this kind of buildings, sold separately, or little scenes of city life like the bride and the bridegroom with the limo could be successful in shops too. Quote
