Kolonialbeamter Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Great to see you here, Captain Becker! Huzzah for a true pirate forum veteran! Get well soon! Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Saint Arltrees Isle of Tyche/Île de Tyche Just a few more hours left, so civic duty ftw! Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Just wanted to share a progress picture of a Caravel I'm working on. It still needs the mizzen mast. The snot deck will be secured when I'm done, I still need to work on the deck. Quote
Gideon Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Looks promising! Very nice with a SNOTed deck Quote
blackdeathgr Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Niiice! Snot wooden planks are a delight and that white hull...oh that white hull... How do you intend to fix the masts on this SNOT floor? I am curious Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Thank you for the complements. How do you intend to fix the masts on this SNOT floor? I am curious On the 4 stud long step near the helm, the center tan brick and reddish-brown plates on either side will be removed. They'll be replaced with a tan 1X4 brick with studs on the side and two 1X2 technic bricks each with two technic pin holes. Below are pictures of the bricks I'm placing in case brick descriptions don't make sense. + 2X Then, the mast base will just fit on the studs of the newly placed bricks. It's the same think I did for the main mast and (inoperable) horizontal capstan. Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 SNOT for the win! Love how you included the hatch. Can't wait to sea see more! Got a name already? Quote
Gideon Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 On Tuesday the 15th we will add the 'suggestions', and the High Council will proclaim the island's new name. Is the name decided now then...? Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Is the name decided now then...? The votes have been tallied, and the winner is... Île de Zeus! An official, Ska-tastic image of our new island coming soon. I've updated our settlement listing. Quote
LegoEomer Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Short question: Would BoBS take place in the 17th century, or the 18th century? Because I see clothing and buildings of styles from both periods. Quote
Captain Dee Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) Short question: Would BoBS take place in the 17th century, or the 18th century? Because I see clothing and buildings of styles from both periods. BoBS would include anything from the Age of Sail, with the greatest emphasis from ca. 1500 to about 1830 (coinciding with the real Age of Exploration and going through the Napoleonic Wars, but not including the use of steam power for anything). And I just realized where "Oleon" comes from... Edit: To be clear, you're free to mix and match components from different time periods, like headgear for example. Morions were used in the late medieval thru early exploration, tricornes were mostly 1700s, and bicornes and shakos were mostly 1800s on. The same goes for ships, buildings, etc: carracks and frigates didn't sail during the same times, but you can build any sailing ship that was used during the general time period, and show them together if you want. Hope this helps. Edited March 20, 2016 by Captain Dee Quote
TitusV Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 As Cpt Dee said: you can mix things yourself! And oh, NapOLEON! Lovely never thought of that Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Napoleonic And I just realized where "Oleon" comes from... Mind... blown! Now, any conspiracy theories about the origins of 'Corrington' and 'Eslandola'? 'Sea Rats' is kind of self explaining Quote
TitusV Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Mind... blown! Now, any conspiracy theories about the origins of 'Corrington' and 'Eslandola'? 'Sea Rats' is kind of self explaining Well, Eslandola sounds spanish... Quote

Gideon Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 How do you guys pronounce 'Oleon'? I prononuce it in a French way [ɔlɔ̃] (or alternative way of writing it [òlô]). Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I prononuce it in a French way [ɔlɔ̃] (or alternative way of writing it [òlô]). I don't know what that is. I pronounce it Oh-lee-en Quote
Kai NRG Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I pronounce it O-lay-on, or maybe O-lee-on. Never occurred to me to drop off the n. Quote
Sir Stig Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 French way as well :) Olé-on About the same for me, but the N is almost silent (but not quite. Maybe a bit nasal as well). The whole word is kinda guttural, as I imagine it. Quote
TitusV Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I pronounce it O-lay-on, or maybe O-lee-on. Never occurred to me to drop off the n. Indeed. I never thought of the french way. Quote
blackdeathgr Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I believe it is pronounced like (Nap)Oleon. Just put this word in google translation, press french and listen to the sound. I think that is the correct way to pronounce it given that this fictional derives from the french name Quote
