No, that's not the number of stormtroopers in my collection! According to this BBC News article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35170829, that's the number of stormtrooper minifigures TLG has ever sold

Now you have to figure that since they were first released, quite a few have been destroyed. But even assuming a 50% attrition rate, that's still 500 million, i.e. more than the population of the US. Can you imagine that many stormtroopers in one place? If they all shot at the same target, one of them might actually hit it.

I'd say it's fair to assume most of us have more Stormies in the house than actual humans. I got 2 today alone, and I know some of you got even more than that from Santa.

I bought 17 of the Rebels ones in the last few months, and ive got another two dozen ones from older sets, and that is not counting snow, sand, scout and dark troopers and tie pilots.

Ive got quite the sizable imperial army by now, but im willing to bet it still gets dwarfed by most guys on here

A billion Stormtrooper minifigs seems high... I thought TLG had said that there were something like ten billion minifigs total in the world as recently as last year? That would mean one in ten was a Stormtrooper, and based on the howls that there aren't enough stormtroopers around here...

No. LEGO said that they have made One Billion stormtrooper minifigs by themselves. Bracketed right above and below the picture of the standard and snowtrooper minifigs.

the article doesnt say, it does show a pic of a stormie and snowie minifig though (and then quickly veers off into a tangent about how stormies wouldnt stand a chance at taking over the world because armour and targetting sucks etc..)

I wouldnt be surprised if the 1 billion number includes different types of trooper, we've had snowies and dark troopers in BPs. surely those must add up quickly, although that does lead to the question whether or not some clone trooper varieties got counted in as well (while the difference may be obvious to us, they are just another white trooper with a helmet on to non-clued in people)

Statistically, one of them has to shoot well.
