namioik Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 With the imminent arrival of the clone turbo tank for the summer wave of 2016, is the AT-AP worth the purchase to compliment set? I was once a BIG fan of episode 3 but as I got older, I started leaning towards the OT sets. The original clone turbo tank back in 2005 is what got me out of my dark ages (albeit it only last a couple of years) so the set is very sentimental. The walker....I did have the original but I ended up selling both turbo tank and walker for cash. As an adult now, I don't have to worry much about funds but I do have to be wary with what I buy because I don't tend to display all my sets. So what do you guys think, is the at-Ap worth buying? MartinCliffe Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I really like the AT-AP - I had the older version as one of my only 3 sets I picked up during my Dark Ages, and I've since bought two of 75043. It's a very solid build, a little bigger but much more rugged than the old version, and the Commander Gree and Cheif Tarfful minifigures are fantastic (the battle droids are... well, battle droids). You'll want to pick up a set of Kashyyyk Troopers (75035) so you've got someone to drive it, but as one of the better battle packs in recent years, that's no bad thing. Quote
Vectormatic Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I had the old AT-AP, and it was by far the favorite part of my Clone army (before i sold it all, more of an OT guy these days, building two armies is too expensive :P) The new models looks quite a bit better then the old one as well, id buy it in a heartbeat if i were still into clone wars stuff. Tariq j Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I liked it. The minifigure range was one a strong point and it had a well built interior. It was also very accurate to the source material. Quote
Immo Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Nice source of walker-related parts; I'd try to build the good ol' AT-PT right away. Not the biggest fan of post-2002 walkers (and prequel trilogy ta that). Anyway, that's a decent set, has nice figures. Quote
anothergol Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) I'm not a fan of Star Wars, I get SW Lego sets because, well, that's Lego's only theme for spaceships. There are those sets that I wouldn't touch, like the AT-AT, the M. Falcon, the Imperial Shuttle. And then there's those I will slowly cannibalize for pieces, and the AT-AP was one of them. I think it didn't look good at all, and is designed purely as a toy with emphasis on strength instead of posability. Edited January 5, 2016 by anothergol Quote

Dameronian Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) I highly recommend this one. Quite accurate, a very unique walker with that third leg for stability while firing the huge canon, a better interior than most other walkers, and some very innovative building techniques. And the set is larger than I had expected. Edited January 5, 2016 by Dameronian Quote
Gremer Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 It's one of my favorite sets, and Gree and Tarrful are fantastic figures. I highly recommend it. Quote
BigEl Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I recommend you check out some videos on youtube to get a clearer picture of the Walker, to me its one of the better Lego SW Sets. The price is good for what you get, the Walker is pretty big and the build was quite a bit of fun as there are some interesting building techniques. The negative points for the AT-AP are to me: - Sparse backside and interior - Cant pose the two main legs But hey, I can confirm that it has very decent potential to be customized and modded to look a lot better Quote
firefox Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 The AT AP is one of the best star wars sets, i especially like it on 2 legs. Has a good interior, nice looking exterior. Quote
namioik Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Overall consensus says yes on the set. Looks like I gotta find the battle pack also for drivers. Thank you for the inputs so far Quote
anothergol Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 :classic: Totally respect your taste in hobbies and fanfare mate.... but gotta be honest.... to not like SW but have it as a pic in your signature block looks kind of funny..... ah no, I like all mechs & robots in general. Just like I own a lifesize T800 endoskeleton while not being a Terminator fan. I'm way more a Blade Runner guy, if I had to pick a movie - only I haven't covered a Spinner in Lego yet because I couldn't do justice to it, some have already done better than I could ever do. Same thing for Robocop, I don't like the movie(s), but I do like ED209, and my attempts at making a Lego version have failed. I tolerate the first SW movies, haven't seen the new one, and didn't like the last 3. But the AT-AT & AT-ST's are pretty nice walkers. The AT-AP.. not so much IMHO. And again, my problem with its Lego incarnation is the same as with the AT-DP, it's designed as a strong toy, thus the legs are thick, unposable and designed to be tossed around by children. I'd probably love it if I was 10, though. I collect some Hot Toys as well, because they're genuine pieces of art. Generally, I haven't seen the movies they were licensed from, or didn't care about them (especially X-men). But it's not like I have a choice, it's all Hot Toys makes, licenses. IMHO if it looks good, I buy it. As for Lego, if Lego still had a "space" theme, I'd buy it. But today's only space theme is SW, so that's what I buy. As for the signature, SW stuff brings a lot more attention, most of my other MOCs are original but I well understand that no one would click on that. Quote
Commander Colt Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 If you find it on sale, at that piece count, and with that excellent Commander Gree, and fairly uncommon wookie, I say go for it! From what I've heard it is a fairly sturdy build and is and interesting, though not iconic design. the overall look is fairly coherent and worth the shelf space, especially if you plan on creating a battlefield, it would fit right in alongside a couple of tanks and speeders. Full price :( but it's retired so I can't argue with the fact that I at least found one Quote
