Robianco Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Ha I think I bought from the same seller! Seemed legit as they emailed me with a pic of the figure and my address on the envelope. Still waiting for it to arrive.. Mine was sent yesterday as the Paypal payment went through as an e-cheque for some reason. Quote
greg3 Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 The Batcave is now available to VIPs on the Lego website!!!! Quote
TakeaBrick Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 It would be great if someone could MOC it into a modular-like build. Quote
r5-j2 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I`ve just seen Jangbricks review and he echoes the view of several folk on this forum that this set has some outstanding elements , but looks more like a bunch of potentially great smaller sets cobbled together in one very expensive box..there`s also an awkward unfinished look to it too...what do you think?....... Quote
penmanovic Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Thanks r5-j2, yet another thoughtful and honest review by Jangbricks. I think the major problem with this set is a result of the determination to include the full-length fire fighters' poles (which I think are 32 studs long). This necessitated extra height on the Wayne manor module, which looks, frankly, a bit ridiculous now. So the inclusion of this pretty measly play feature sacrifices display potential and makes the whole thing look rather awkward. My personal inclination would be to take a hand saw to the poles, shorten them to 24 studs (or even 16 studs), and then adjust the build accordingly. That being said, with some simple mods, it is indeed possible to get this thing up and running and looking fantastic with relative ease, as in this video by the aptly-named Brick Adjuster: Obviously, at this price point the stock set should have come out of the box already perfect, but these very simple mods (especially the magnificent floor), but also the cave wall, really bring the whole thing to life. r5-j2 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) I`d never heard of Brick Adjuster until now , but many thanks for the link Penmanovic and you are 100% right; it can be "adjusted" to look much, much better. Edited February 19, 2016 by r5-j2 Quote
le-goat Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Cheers Penmanovic, looks fantastic that does. Definitely tailoring mine to look similar to that! Quote
Matti Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 ^Fine review by this fella' "Jangbricks".. Never heard of him! Since i've been spending days trashing about the UCS Hoth set, i almost forgot all about this one.. Im still not quite sure on how the debate flows in here.. Sometimes there seems to be some good general interest in talking about the cons/pros about sets, other times topics like this just floods with "when and where".. I have absolutely no recollection of the classic TV series. I am about half the age as the TV show itself. But to be honest, what i have seen so far has been too ugly to even consider collecting (if i was a collector) ! Yeah, its kinda sad of me to sit here and trash again, even about a TV series that i can't relate to. I am sure that this rocks the boat for many AFOL fans, who remembers the "good ol' days". And it will kinda rock the boat for many people who feel like jumping into the retro-wave and consider it their own as well.. Nothing bad about that! Hell, i was even a little bit convinced when i saw the joker mini fig in this set.. I almost fell into the big bucket. ALMOST! Now, i am not going to comment further on the play-set or model/display value in this box, because i am thinking that i kinda gave it away already. But just to be on the safe side: I think it is absolutely horrifying.. No no.. I am struck by the insane price-tag on this one. It puzzles me even more than the Battle of Hoth set, because this Classic TV Series bat cave will have no gain with the younger audience.. But they can never afford it anyway, so guess that solves the issue Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 The show's not for everyone, especially those who prefer Batman "played straight" (in quotes because Batman is honestly taking itself too seriously these days), but for those who like it, the set's a good one. However, many, myself included, are saying that it's been one of the worst D2Cs yet, due to a lack of play value, display value, and a general "unfinishedness" to the model. It's a shame the minifigures are so excellent, since the set's not very good. Quote
BlockLogo Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 So many fans, myself prolly included, who think the set is no good will buy it anyways because of the minifigures. If you're anything more than a casual LEGO Batman fan, you know you need the figures. Quote
r5-j2 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Matti ,I`m in agreement with you in that this set is a real missed opportunity;-I AM old enough to remember all the elements of the original series...Lego have got most of them into the box, but it is a really awkward, mess!;certainly not worth £230....as for Jang ,check out his reviews, he tends not to be a Lego "company" man, but gives more often than not ,a fair review of what-ever is in front of him. regards Kenny. Boromir Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Boring design. Would not display this. Tons of stickers too. It's very overpriced as well. 2799,- NOK (330 USD at the current exchange rate). This and the Hoth "UCS" are easy to pass on for me. At least some money can be put towards more desirable sets like the brick bank. Might even consider the GB firehouse if there is nothing else interesting coming. Quote
Ashnflash Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I want the set a lot but in Canada it's gonna come to $370+ Quote
r5-j2 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I agree with you Boromir; this set is an awkward unfinished lookin` mess..o.k. it has all the gadgets/vehicles I remember ,but the price is a joke! and when compared to the recent Ghostbusters H.Q.; this Bat-cave looks more like a work in progress, that should still be on a Lego designers desk...not a finished article ready for sale Quote
Amset-Rah Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I'm in agreement that the set is pretty overpriced all things considered. I mean it's a great start for a classic Batcave, but I'm personally going to wait until a sale before I throw down cash on it. I have a theory: We've been spoiled by the GB firehouse and how amazing that was despite its price tag, that this one looks underwhelming in comparison. That and like I mentioned before, the design may be intentional to resemble a set from the TV show, hence the unfinished look. I even mentioned building a couple of TV cameras to add to the mix and give that impression that it's a TV show set, which is why I think the set has "Camera friendly" angles. Quote

L E G O Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I really want to like it for all the reasons others have already stated but yes, a little unfinished in places. I'll wait for a sale too. Quote
Amset-Rah Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Intentional or not, it's still a pathetic excuse for why we've gotten such an underwhelming set. True, I'm just trying for find the silver lining, aside from the minifigs. Still going to wait for a sale regardless if it was everything we expected. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 True, I'm just trying for find the silver lining, aside from the minifigs. Still going to wait for a sale regardless if it was everything we expected. Due note however that this is indeed a Direct to Consumer set...which means it will never be on sale. Quote
Captain Britain Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Hoping to pick this up in April when they release the Mr. Freeze minifig over here in the UK. Until then, a bit of money aside every now and then will help cushion the blow Quote
Bolingbroke Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 unless lego decides to quadruple the vip points sale promotion, this set will still be too expensive, even with double points. i was kinda thinking of getting it in march with the sale promotion there, but then i saw that you can only get freeze in april, and only with dc purchases. i have zero interest in other dc sets, and i dont want to get this set without a sale, so i think lego can keep everything, thank you very much. mva5580 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I love the minifigs, I love the vehicles, the design of the cave/house is passable but a bit awkward looking, it's just the price that seems a bit off. I imagine it's $270 because of the 9 minifigs it comes with and little else. If it came with say, 3 or 4 minifigs, it would probably be closer to the $200 mark. I'm not sure why people are saying they'll wait for a "sale,".....when does stuff like this ever go on sale? Unless you're referring to a VIP points promotion or something. Quote
Bolingbroke Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) google 'shf obi wan'. see that action figure there? amazing right? costs only around 35 euro including shipping from japan, all six inches of it. why 9 tiny lego minifigures would cost enough to justify selling this set for 290 euro, i honestly dont know. it's a swindle, no two ways about it. And the shf is still a star wars product, so no 'licensing' excuses there either. Edited February 25, 2016 by Bolingbroke Quote
Actor Builder Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I seem to be in the minority, but I think this set is really cool. By far my favorite of the Bat-Cave sets released. Quote
