If you ever change your mind for the 3rd one, let me know, I might be interested ;)

Of course will do. I was originally planning on ordering more tham 3 but tied myself down to just 3 in the end. I thought I'd grab a bunch then sell them on so people could get some without paying the massive postage they charged and it also eases the postage to me but for some reason I didn't bother in the end.. silly . Would have been a nice win/win for everyone.

Firestartoys do a version - I've got one myself but didn't like how it looked. http://www.firestartoys.com/Shop/Minifigure-Parts/Minifigure-Custom-Design-Heads/30684-Custom-Mini-Figure-Heads-~-Spiderman-~-Black.html

I'm having a hard time deciding whether I want to get into customs or not. But I will be using your display ideas Capt, that's exactly what I am looking for.

Took me a long time to decide too. It was Spider-Gwen that snowballed it for me really and now I'm a bit addicted. Glad you like the frame ideas mate :classic:

My figs either live in boxes or are displayed on a high shelf (way from my grand-kids), I have only recently got into the Lego super-hero theme ,but despite being a D.C. fan, I have been buying more Marvel ,than D.C., but that has now changed and I now have 2 more D.C. sets to build (and more on my wish-list.

Here are my Marvel figs, which are just on a base-plate along with my only Quin-jet (Giant man is packed away, until I get another couple of base-plates)

This is most of my meagre D.C. Collection, but once base-plates are bought, I`ll get my "Clash of heroes" and "Bat-wing" built and added into the display

I personally think Customs are a great part of collecting Lego... although they can be a bit of a drain on your finances.

If I can give any advice on it I'd say pick a theme and stick to it... I personally stick with DC and Star Wars, hence all my Marvel customs getting sold as well as all of my LOTR & Hobbit items.

I only ever buy pad printed figures too... there are far too many digitally printed figures to even attempt to complete things... I normally find that anybody who has gone to the trouble of pad printing things have taken a lot of time to get the design right... which isn't always the case with digitally printed figures.

OLS's SDCC figures that are shown by Cap above are really well done but I'll stick to my modified bootlegs as the metallic print on the bootleg is actually closer to the genuine Lego versions.

If I ever look to downsize, the Batman figures will be the last to go though.

Fortunately, I don't like how most customs turn out looking--you get a real good sense of how well done the Lego aesthetic is usually done when you see other people not QUITE get it. Usually a bit over-detailed, or the eyes are a bit off, or on women characters the hips effect (which I hate even in official Lego) is way too overdone. That last one is the only reason I haven't gotten the Spider-Gwen custom, which I otherwise love. So, being overly picky helped out my wallet in this case...

That said, customs for the SDCC work, since they're going off Lego designs (and lets me feel fairly completionist without spending a year's worth of rent). And I ended up getting a Misty Knight, because she's awesome and I can't imagine getting an official of her.

I do like that Quinjet.. kinda wish I'd have kept mine now :sceptic:

I like it ,but it is a bit small, I so changed the fins at the back and added the canards at the front ,to try and make it look more interesting.

Take care Bro

Kenny.

Here is the most recent update to my collection. (The thumbnail is a lie, it's not quiiteee 400 yet but it's close).

Congrats! Are all purist? Or at least are they all pure LEGO, just printed or painted differently? Either way, great collection!

I think I'll give customs a chance, if finances follow. How do we know it's digitally or pad printed ?

Pad is how Lego do theirs... the ink should sit very flat to the surface of the plastic and should be totally smooth. Digital ink tends to sit thicker on the figure... so much so you can see a highlight and shadow on the ink coverage. OLS has a very good printer so is about as good as digital gets but there's still a thickness to the ink coverage. Digital also can't reproduce metallic ink so you won't get something like a silver as it'll just appear grey.

On the subject of customs here's my Superman collection with each of Lego's and a few customs to fill things out:

That's a nice collection, Rob. Is the Red Son Superman the one81 custom / pad printed? If so I'd like to know what you think of that figure qualitywise...or do you have high quality pictures of him?

Posted

It certainly is. Once my Gotham by Gaslight version arrives from him and Fig-nation complete their Flashpoint Batman I'll update my Batman collection which will be at around 45 variants. God knows how many it will be after the Lego Batman Movie.

Thanks! I was looking everywhere for an IRL picture of him, since I could only find renders. I think I might get him now, but I just have to get this SS Harley first

Also, that's a really impressive collection *oh2* Mine is kinda...small right now (at least compared to yours, haha), but I hope that one day it'll be at least half as awesome as yours! Right now I'm trying to finish my Batman Rogues Gallery collection, but I'm still waiting on some good Mad Hatter & Firefly customs, amongst others.

Man, just trying to get all the Official Lego minifigs is killing my wallet! I am always on the lookout for deals, but it's hard to get the exclusives for less than $15 shipped. I just got Batzarro, Clark Kent, Trickster, Lightning Lad, and Nightwing on the way to me and those were not cheap. I'm also trying to round out the rest of the SH collection but some of them will forever be out of reach for me. I can't justify spending $45 dollars on Deadpool just because Lego stopped making him. I managed to snag the Antman set before it went over $50 and I'm glad I did. The price is insane now.

eBay has been great for picking up SH stuff for me. Original Scarecrow was sold with a custom torso for £3, original Robins have cost around £7-£8 each even with the rare wavy hair etc. I just trawl through generic Lego terms and see what people are selling. I recently got three TFA Star Wars figures including Han Solo for around £6 in total. I love it when people don't know/care what they're listing.

Unfortunately my Bricklink order has not arrived yet. :cry_sad:

In other news, I bought a knockoff Collector on EBay for $7 shipped. I'll replace the arms, hair, and cape with genuine Lego and my Guardians collection should be complete! :sweet:

I'm a hypocrite. I just ordered 6866 for $80 shipped. I was browsing through ebay like I do everyday and saw it listed New and sealed. I guess my threshold just got a bit higher for some of these!

That's dead on for the version in the Lego games, but... seeing it physically helps explain why there hasn't been an official Clayface yet. Super well done custom, but man, I don't know if there's a way to do that character without it looking like... well... not clay.

Yeah, keeping up isn't so bad, but filling out your backlog is rough. If you're just starting out, looking for lots might help you get stuff cheaper then buying individually? At least when I was doing the Simpsons CMF line, getting like 12 of the figures in a lot got me a pretty good price per figure, and then trying to get the last 4 is where the prices started killing me...

Really, I wish I'd known about Bricklink earlier, since I paid WAY too much on eBay for some of my earlier acquisitions compared to what I've seen them on BL for now.

I think you should definitely be aware of the BL cost of the figure. If there are around 5 or 6 sellers hovering around a starting price then that's the basic value of the figure... If you can find one on eBay cheaper then great but work out your postage and know if you're paying over the odds.

Also... Don't be afraid to try and part out figures. I've picked up plenty of figures by grabbing a head or torso here and there the make a figure up. I also like to order parts to make figures to sell and cover the cost of the parts I keep... Such as the BvS Alfred that I recently sold five of.

I totally agree. It's actually almost underwhelming in hand which is odd for a Christo. It's perfect for what it's portraying yet almost dull as a figure.

And, in terms of our odds of getting Clayface as an official character, kinda looks like a poop demon... Maybe it'd work better as a Big Fig? Or in a lighter brown? Maybe tan or dark grey?

Maybe they could do it Sandman style where it's half, say, the Joker, and the other half is Clayface, like he's half way through disguising himself...

I just looked at some other, non-Lego Clayface toys, so it's definitely not just a minifigure design problem. Clayface just looks weird as a physical object...
