LegoEomer Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) Greenwood Castle is a new castle built under the orders of Sir Thomas. It defends the town of Greenwood, the second largest town in Avon. Though it is under construction, as the inner buildings have not been built yet, soldiers have been stationed there, since there are rumors of the Algus in the area. Today, the rumors are proven true when a group of Algus soldiers descended upon the fortress. Algus_Challenge_Cat._ A (1) lego eomer Algus_Challenge_Cat._A (2) lego eomer Algus_Challenge_Cat. A (3) lego eomer Luckily, the garrison had just received oil from Kaliphlin, so the soldiers dipped their arrows, swords, and spears into the oil and set it on fire. This worked effectively, as many Algus soldiers were set on fire while the others retreated. The soldiers had driven off the Algus, for now... Thanks for looking. This is my first topic post, so please give me feedback. I also can't seem to get the images to work, so if anybody would be kind enough to help me with that, that would be nice. BrickCurve Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) Your photos are all marked as private on flickr, to change that got to you, organise, select all, privacy and permissions. I look forward to seeing your MOC! And also for the images, on flickr you go to share, BBC code, select size, and then copy and paste. LegoEomer Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Well, I marked my images as public, but I haven't gotten the image to work yet. I copied the BBCode and did all those instructions, but all I'm seeing is what I copied and pasted, rather than an image. I'm sorry, but everyone is going to have to click the link until I can find a way for it to work. Quote
BrickCurve Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I dont know, I had a go and it works for me. As for the model, it really needs more landscaping, trees and vegetation. The castle itself is pretty good although it doesn't seem to have a door. It also needs some more texture in the walls overall good job for a first model, especially considering how time consuming LDD is to use. TitusV Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 It's a good castle, but as Brickcurve said, the walls could use soms texture (and a door) Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Nice start! BrickCurve has given some good advice. Quote

You don't have to copy into the image tab, but directly into your post. Private/public makes no difference in that respect. Quote
dzidek1983 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 In LDD i would let my fantasy loose an take all the fancy bricks for making a castle :) For small details - just take same gray tiles and finish off the castle where you have studs visible on the walls, ad som slopes and arches to the walls and build some depth in them. Use different kinds of 1x2 bricks for walls. Quote
LegoEomer Posted January 26, 2016 Author Posted January 26, 2016 Thanks for the help Brickcurve. It's a good castle, but as Brickcurve said, the walls could use soms texture (and a door) There actually is a door, it just was opened, so from the angle of the shots you can't see anything. Nice start! BrickCurve has given some good advice. Thanks! It's got double brackets. Get rid of the ones on the outside. You don't have to copy into the image tab, but directly into your post. Private/public makes no difference in that respect. Thank you for that. That was the one step I didn't get. In LDD i would let my fantasy loose an take all the fancy bricks for making a castle :) For small details - just take same gray tiles and finish off the castle where you have studs visible on the walls, ad som slopes and arches to the walls and build some depth in them. Use different kinds of 1x2 bricks for walls. Well, the castle is supposed to look like it was just built. Second, this is my first build in two years, so I am a bit rusty. I also don't really know how to build a good castle, despite looking at other users' builds for inspiration. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Cool castle I like the four sided roofs, archer slits. Some more color would look good in the walls, if you want the castle to look freshly built, you don't need to mottle the walls, but can still add another color as an accent at corners, or around windows and doorframes: or: Another thing to keep in mind, is depth change in the walls, to avoid a big flat line. You can recess windows, arches, or add buttresses: Layout is also important, keeping things asymmetrical often is more interesting to look at, as well as giving each tower/building some unique detailing: I hope some of those suggestions are helpful, but ultimately, just keep building castles and looking to improve them and you'll figure it all out yourself. Looking at real castles is often a great inspiration Quote
LegoEomer Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 Thanks for the advice SK. Again, this was my first build in a long time, so I am pretty rusty. That castle in the bottom is by far one of my favorites. It is what inspired me to start building castles again. Quote
